Steam Punk and questions regarding it.

Ok, so I've heard the mention of Steam Punk here and there concerning anime, but what is it exactly? I've seen pictures from shows that are considered Steam Punk, but still don't know what exactly determines if something is Steam Punk. Also, does it describe just anime, or other shows/music/whatever.

What are some good Steam Punk animes to watch? I may have already seen some considered as such, but I am unsure if I have or not.

Lastly, why do you like it?

    steampunk is a style of things looking victorian or mechanical, but being "futuristic" It does not really describe anime or music or anything. Just the style.

    Last Exile is a good steampunk anime.

    Lastly, this is better suited for H/A I think.

    A mod can move it if you ask nicely. Maybe report your own post and ask for it to be moved.

    Steampunk doesn't really have anything to do with anime. A good example of steampunk is the Warcraft universe, especially Gnome and Goblin stuff. Wikipedia has a nice page on steampunk also.

    Examples of Steampunk anime are like Fullmetal Alchemist, Steamboy, and Miyazaki's Laputa.
    I also think Akira Kurosawa did a Steampunk short anime.
