the first thing that comes to my mind when i think of him
Same here.
That or the story he told me, Nap, and Volyu in the car during StalePAX on the way home from Cap's about meeting the lesbian in a bar that was so cool that he wanted to fight her.
When Tonkman first got the motorcycle a few months back, Sarah and I talked about it. We were both concerned, obviously, since Tonkman did stuff balls-out, and with little regard for his health and well-being. Her line about it was great.
"Maybe it will help him pick up chicks...one at a time."
When we were climbing the bridge to go jump, he turned into this really... normal dude, unzonkylike. He was telling me how deathly afraid of heights he was, and I think that had a lot to do with it. You couldn't not be proud of that.
We shared a fist pound before he left on the ferry.
Oh, man. I thought this was going to be a joke thread, like about a new law against homosexual marriage or pedophilia or something. I was wondering why it got stickied. That photo in the OP...shit. He was really young. I'm sorry to hear this.
I remember him showing us this at VanPAX.
and when I asked why he was showing it, he said "Oh so you know what the place looked like before?"
"Before what, Tonkman? We're in your apartment!"
Him: "Well yeah...." and he just trailed off.

Damn...I really liked what I knew of Zonk, mostly from D&D and the way he quarreled with The Cat all the time and never backed down. I think he earned almost as many infractions as I did from that kind of activity.

I kept wanting to say 'SHUT UP, ZONKY' in a Shrek voice to him, and had the opportunity to finally do it at a big dinner, and he completely didn't get it.

I have 3 text messages saved in my phone at any given time.
One of them is from Zonkytonkman. Zonkytonkman, who is always, always three hours late. (We joked that he was still on Newfoundland time.)
A big group of us had food at a Japanese place and opted to walk to our friend James' house. He told me he'd meet us there. After he'd made it there on motorcycle, he texted me - "God. I ALWAYS have to wait for you."
That was a great, great night.
Tonkman has been there so tightly for me lately, with some decisions I've made. I couldn't ask for a better friend, he really was so understanding, and EXTREMELY open, and he's helped me quite a bit with some insecurities of my own.
We were supposed to go back to the island soon for another bungee jumping extravaganza. He wanted to go again, so badly. He was looking forward to PAX. He was so, SO excited to meet everyone he hadn't already met.
I'm probably going to be posting in here quite a bit ... I've known him since January 07 and it's been a goddamn fun ride with him.
I'm trying to remember funny things about from when we lived together for those 2 weeks - I still have my "Zonkytonkman" signed PS2 Guitar Hero guitar.
I will never, EVER forget him singing "Hungry Like The Wolf"

God I remember that story now, it was brilliant.
Just after he says that he is introduced to the lady in question's girlfriend.

Zonky was the worst singer in the world. And yet sang like he was the world's most famous superstar. It was always hysterical when he would go nuts on vocals.

"Why the fuck would I want to go to Tulsa? Tulsa is horrible."
Because it's halfway and I'll be damned if I'm flying to ATL all because you married the wrong woman. Now lets get to Oklahoma and get hammered.
