the outbreak i am currently experiencing will likely pass in a week or two
but the virus will never leave my system ever and if something tanks my immune system like it did before then whoooosh shingles are back
and every time you get em it increases the chance that you will get them again

and also there is this thing called postherpetic neuralgia that is basically permanent nerve damage and i may have to deal with chronic pain for the rest of my life because of this
which may lead to permanently being on hydromorphone or something similar
hooray because it's not like i used to have a drug problem and spent a year in rehab or anything whooooo

I had shingles on my back and right around my side. In my pits up my neck and down my arms. I couldn't leave the house for 3 weeks because of it, a slight breeze would feel like a burning dagger. Thanks to the great local healthcare system, I was incorrectly diagnosed and had to brave it with no medication. This was worsened by the fact that I hallucinate like crazy on codeine, a major ingredient of most strong painkillers.
A great home remedy was cornstarch mix, paste it on to the scabs and it cools and protects sensitive areas from the elements.
If you're able to, meditate.
Don't worry too much about having them later in life, it might happen, just keep yourself healthy, this should be a priority anyway. Chances of getting them reccuring later in life are slim as far as I can tell, out of everyone know that has had them (maybe 5 or 6 people), none have had them since the original case.
However, avoid getting aids (because I know you were totally planning to get them) as it will likely kill you now that you have had shingles.
Stay away from anti-biotics as best you can, whilst they boost your immune system temporarily, your body can become reliant on them, correct me if I'm wrong here.

I got shingles every year for several years as a child.
Pony, I don't remember anything like that happening to me.
I think we had different kinds of 'shingles'.
Mine were related to chicken pox and only spread in a palm-sized patch across my lower back and side.
I just coated them in calamine lotion so they wouldn't itch.
