I was always partial to the music just outside the forest right after you start. Of course, this means that I've played the first five minutes of CT several hundred times without ever going further.
About the Tougher Lavos Fight, been a while since I read about it so some bits may be out, but here goes, will try to keep story spoilers to a minimum but there will be some of course:
When you first encounter Lavos in the Ocean Palace you're supposed to lose, apparently it wasn't enough for the makers that they were throwing an end game boss at you mid game (ish?), so they also massively buffed Lavos up for that one fight, he has more health, attacks for more and faster, unleashes his biggest move(s) more often, confuses you even with protection, etc, just in case you'd grinded to a point where you could feasibly beat the 'normal' version of Lavos at that time.
Apparently that is the only time you can meet that version of Lavos, not sure on that though. As was said earlier the ending you get for beating that version is the same you get for...
Beating Lavos at the start of a new game plus with just Crono (Possible as Crono/Marle I think), same as the normal Lavos, but you have less characters to fight with
Anyway Great for PAL regions that its on the DS as we'll still be able to play even if they only release in US/JP.
It would be great is Square Enix added a whole bunch of branching storylines for things like that. Imagine a whole new path for people who beat Lavos at the Ocean Palace, or other impossible shit that they would make possible.

But they won't. This is just going to be a port with a new dungeon and a few extra gizmos, intended as a quick cash in.

They're not going to go and rewrite the game.
This is a good thing.
For a quick cash in they certainly took their damn time.
My dream would be if they came out with a book/cd that had the soundtrack to trigger/cross and had concept art, and commentary about the games. I would pay $100.00 for a hardbound chrono designer's log book. Shit, that would become my permanent coffee table book. Well, next to the watchmen.
Also, the "oh shit, we are the only ones who can save the world, lets do this thing" music in CT is the only good version of that type of song in existense.

Square didn't have an issue shoehorning shit into the game with the Playstation port, so I wouldn't be surprised if it actually did happen with the DS port.
So the clock is more interesting than it first appeared: for the right half, each mark is a little round thing, spaced 5 minutes apart; for the lower left, the marks are more line-like, and there's 3 between 30 and 45; and for the last quarter, there are 8. They also switch from being on the rim to being on the clock-face after the 30 minute mark.
Question: Do DS games have memory, as in, could I just buy the game and use my roommate's DS while keeping the save games on my own cart, or will I be buying my own DS when CT is released?
Well they've been cashing in on other stuff, haven't they. Not as if Chrono Trigger is the only thing SE have in their vaults.
True.
Terranigma for 2009?
Let's have a little sanity here.
Mario RPG?
I'm quite sure Mario RPG will never come out on the DS. Something to do with Mario RPG using an additional CPU or something so it's impossible to run.
Um. You know that this isn't just SNES Chrono Trigger running in an emulator, right?
Mario RPG can't be emulated on the DS. Super Mario 64 also can't be emulated on the DS. Ports, however, are always possible.
Doubtful. The aspect ratio for the screen would be wrong for starters.
Um. The DS's screens are 4:3, just like the TVs that Mario RPG was designed to run on. I'm not quite sure what you're talking about here.
Even if it weren't the correct aspect ratio, I'm sure it could still be done. Okami wasn't widescreen on the PS2, but they added that in for the Wii port. I don't think it's all that hard to change the aspect ratio.
I meant resolution. The snes output at 256x224 and the nds outputs at 256x192. They are going to have to do at least a small amount of work with the interface or everything is going to be squished or cut off.
Renzo's explaination makes the most sense. The battle window covered a good 1/5 of the screen if not more. With that out of the way, I'm sure the DS's resolution should offer the same amount of veiw as the menu-covered screen before. Not like they couldn't make the battle windows smaller anyway, they did an admirable job compressing it in Final Fantasy 4 for the GBA.
Outside of battle I wonder if the second screen might morph into a map of the current area, not unlike the Treasure Map seen in the PS1 release.

That doesn't matter. When porting a game, they can adjust for resolution and aspect ratio.
They brought Zelda Link to the Past to the GBA. And that was both the wrong aspect ratio and lower resolution. Yet the port looked and played wonderfully.

From what I remember, someone found assets for a second Zeal dungeon, but, don't remember the specifics too well.

I double checked before posting it - warez and emulators/roms are against the rules. linking to audio files has been allowed many times in the past.
however if a mod/admin wants me to remove the link, I would quickly comply and apologize.
Its the best piece of video game music ever.
I am starting to feel the love.

Put a copy in front of me, put a gun in my hand, bring out the guy in the blindfold and ask me to pull the trigger.
Who am I kidding, I'd be tearing open (well, carefully opening) the box before the body hit the floor.
Mario RPG?
Who do you want me to kill?
Yes.
A thousand times yes.

We will, however, almost certainly get it on the VC sooner or later, unlike all the Square solo jobs.

I loved that game. I love how the ultimate version of your dragon was basically 'ah fuck it, you have infinite hp'

Even though they were buggy?
To be fair, FF4A was a port of a port, the original port having it's own mess of problems.
I think they got most of their footing down by the time FF6A came around.
