After Lucca repairs Robo, his theme plays, and I just realized that this is a clear sound-alike for "Never Gonna Give You Up"... It's not an exact copy, it's just an obvious sound-alike, at least for the first minute or so.

I'm probably not the first person to notice this...

But, but...I could've sworn there was a rule against rick rolls. This is clearly a trap!

In all seriousness, though, you will find Robo's theme combined with Never Gonna Give You Up right here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZ20N6syuwc.

I did not realize the Youtube embed thing was automatic. Oh well...

Funny, I just tried to post that same video, since it plays properly from within Youtube, no problems, but when embedded, it just says "We're sorry, this video is no longer available."

At least, this answers my initial interrogation: I clearly wasn't the first one to notice this synchronicity. Just grab the Youtube URL for that video, and go listen directly on Youtube. It's uncanny!

The gameplay in chrono trigger is still a lot more solid than most rpgs coming out today. How the hell can that be.

It's solid, but not particularly interesting (I like that most modern JRPGs allow for choice in character development outside of equipment (which in CT is almost never anything more than equipping the newest item)

The game's appeal is in the setting, story and music (for me at least)

There's no skill trees or anything, but with tabs or "capsules" as they're now called you do have some customization available.

I'd say the combo system (double techs, triple techs, and special triples unlocked by items) and the positional attacks make up any gap in gameplay you might see without character specific skill options.

It'd certainly be neat if they had skill trees in addition to the other things that make the gameplay great, but I miss the things CT has in other JRPGs as much as I miss things in CT that the others have.

Finished my first ever run through the game yesterday around 5am. I had started playing the SNES version a few times the last few years and just never really got much farther than the first Middle Ages trip each time. I loved every second of it this time and can't wait to start my NG+ run for the other endings. The new dungeon, Lost Sanctum...fuck this place. Easily the worst part of the game I've experienced so far. Fetch quests are NOT fun, especially the massive amounts this place has. Not to mention the constant warping after each little step. Just, why did they have to ruin such a great game with such a shitty addition?

Ive been doing all of the side quests now that I have full world access. Messed around with the new dungeon a bit... got kind of bored, but ill probably finish it up eventually.

The main game is going along nicely though. Gotta go take care of like 1 more side quest before hitting death peak in 2300 for that little bit, and then the finale.

And for the person asking about the ruby Vests for the sun stone quest...

Better idea is to run that by getting the Red Mail and Red Vest (for the absorb) from Guardia Castle and then throw Lucca with a Taban suit (which has the Fire reduction too, but with alot higher def.)

Shouldnt have to heal but once or twice the whole fight.

You can give the capsules to anyone you want. Just don't give strength to Marle and Lucca because they don't use it. I also think Ayla doesn't use magic either but I could be wrong.

Excuse the term, but if you give them all to Chrono then his power level will be over 9000 relatively early.

If you plan on grinding out levels then it eventually it doesn't matter who you give them to.

    A few thoughts:

    1. Chrono's level 40, and his speed is already maxed. Also, lol luminaire lol. Slap on that Gold Stud, spam that shit.

    2. Lost Sanctum -
So, am I to infer that this place is in a separate dimension? One in which the Reptites won/survived? I mean, it's through a gate, for one, but no time traveling is occurring. Second, the gate is oddly colored compared to the timegates.

Also, they should have called it the Paradox Stone, since it totally just merged with itself. And it better have a purpose beyond becoming a fucking flashlight. :D

Yes but this is a waste. Ayla is far and away the strongest character in the game, and she hits that upward spike far earlier and far harder than Crono.

CC spoilers related to the above:
In Chrono Cross, we get a glimpse of another dimension where the Reptites won the war, wiped out humanity, and conquered the world. The eventually developed environmentally friendly bio-technology that let them live in harmony with the planet, in contrast to humanity's industry and pollution.

I haven't played through CTDS yet, but maybe the Lost Sanctum is this other dimension?

I hadn't played enough of Cross to know that, but I had some suspicions. Very interesting, indeed. I'll have to find a working copy of Cross to play after this, now; when I tried to play it back in the day, my friend's copy was scratched and I never got more than a few hours in before it would consistently freeze.

Some thoughts: (Spoilered for safety reasons and somewhat-long post)
...I've considered myself a fan of this game for years, but after clearing everything in the game, I realized I forgot how to get the different endings. I still remembered how to get the New Game +, though.

Anyways, it looks like SquareEnix found more awesome to put into this game. The rewrite gives new insight into the various storylines.

Lucca recieved the most changes to her dialogue- instead of being the know-it-all brainiac, they turned her into the shy quiet yet smart girl next door. She doesn't really think being smart is all that great- she has to have Marle drag it out of her before you head back to the present after the first visit to 600 AD.

The movies are clear, crisp and DON'T FUCKING SKIP like my PS1 version's do.

The tie to Chrono Cross has been strengthened by the Lost Sanctum. I think the only reason they used Dalton as the guy who wrecked Guardia was because he was the only major baddie who hadn't been completely wrecked by that point.

The best scene IMO is the prehistoric party. No more soup, no more poi- apparently Ayla's tribe knows the true secret of happiness: liquor. Take Lucca and Marle with you. No more soup race- instead, it's a liquor-drinking contest to get the Dreamstone.

The amount of TP handed out has been raised something fierce- you can easily clear all techs for Crono by level 40. Crono's the fastest, still. Marle's magic spikes earlier, too- you won't really need Cure 2 until the final battles or if your HP gets about 750. Cure is so overpowered it's frightening. Lucca doesn't really get anything but her personality changed, but Antipode Bomb III is more than likely the best Shadow damage generator in the game. Robo- he's still kind of cool, but in the end, you don't really need him except for the Factory. The Geno Dome quest will scare the absolute bejesus out of you, though.

Ayla's hold on the leadership position of her tribe is more tenuous than before- we also know why she chose Kino the wuss over anyone else: "If Ayla die, or have baby, Kino new chief Ioka." She says it so matter-of-factly that it took me a minute to get the impact: Kino's so whipped he obviously won't do anything unless Ayla orders him to. Not many of the other cavemen would put up with that, I think.

Magus is now infinitely more bad-ass. He will join you still, but his new replies to you in the End of Time indicate he's much darker than before. I can't remember it exactly right now, but it boils down to: "If at any time, for any reason, I decide you're impeding me instead of helping me, I will cut your throat and throw you under the fucking bus."

The new, hidden boss is a nice challenge- it puts to rest one of the biggest questions the fandom's had for a decade or more: What happened to Schala?

The answer? Her mind was eaten by the Dream Devourer, an obvious tie-in to Chrono Cross and a third Lavos breed. Of course, the only thing you really get for thumping it is a thirteenth ending and a sword for Crono that's only slightly better than the Rainbow (the new sword has 1 more attack point and a 90% critical rate, the Rainbow boasts a 70% crit rate.)

The Reptite villages are a nice touch- I usually clear them as soon as they open- they're nice to grind out a few levels when you need them, plus completing them opens up a shop that sells Full and Turbo Ethers. The only other place that sells them is deep in the Black Omen.

Anyways, using a party of Crono/Marle/Lucca, I beat Lavos at about Lv. 55. The extra stuff was a few levels higher than that, and the Dream Devourer was whooped at about level 60.

Yes. This was absolutely my setup once I got both of those. It means every time an enemy touches you, you have a better than 50-50 chance of critical hitting their face into oblivion. Sometimes you're doing more damage when it's NOT your turn!

The studs are nice early on, but after a while you really have enough MP and MP-restoratives to replace them with other awesome stuff--like the different glasses. Those things are ridiculous.

    More Lost Sanctum:
FUCK the bosses in the Primeval Fortress. Seriously. Do you really expect me to count damage done to two different enemies (that are sight-scope immune) with different defense stats and then estimate how much HP they both have so that I can kill them at the same time? Also, do all that while still sleepy on the morning bus ride?

FUCK THAT NOISE. After several attempts, I ended up in a Luminaire > Frenzy the Blue One loop, with Frog and Marle sitting back and double-curing as needed. By sheer luck, the Blue one died first, and I got in a Frenzy on the Red with Crono and Marle took him down with a standard attack before he could rez the Blue one back.

Now, I'm feeding a Nu. Up the Mountain. Down the Mountain. Up the Mountain. Down the Mountain. Find a yellow food. :P

Amazon has a terrible tendency to sit on orders at the warehouse for no apparent reason.

I ordered the PSP headphones with remote on Black Friday because it was $5, down from $30, and they were supposedly ready for shipping on Saturday.

The shipping info didn't get transmitted to UPS until Sunday.

The package wasn't given to UPS until today.

I know they're busy this time of year and all, but it annoys me anyway. Although it is funny, to see UPS try to meet the 2-day shipping estimate by essentially overnighting it (it's already in the nearest shipping hub to me and it's supposed to be delivered tomorrow).
