Pretty much as of today I can't connect to XBL at all. It signs me in to my profile fine, but when I hit "Connect to Xbox Live" it just tries to connect, and nothing happens. After about three-four attempts a new screen comes up saying that my Gamertag is no longer deemed appropriate and that I need to change it (now the only options I have are Change Tag or Cancel).
When I select the Change Tag option, it tells me that it can't connect to the Marketplace and that I need to sign in to XBL.
So, am I shit out of luck and is my GT which I've had for over two years getting force changed, or is it just my connection thats fucked up?
Just checked, and there's no messages saying that I need to change it, I've not received any angry emails from microsoft regarding it and in the "Edit my Gamer Profile" thing it won't let me change it either. o_O

How in the hell is your tag in anyway offensive? I'd send them an e-mail or something.
MS are definitely uptight about names. If you call CS you'll get a laugh and a firm 'change it'. You won't get a message about it proper because the message is the prompt you get to alter it.
I would create another gamertag to test if your connection is working, and if it is and you still can't change it then call CS. Their number is 1-800-4-MYXBOX.

My connection seems to be fine, and even checking in the network settings on the xbox it all works fine as well. I'll give M$ a call and see what the hell is up. =/
Sounds kind of similar to a problem I had when my Gold subscription expired and I didn't renew it (because I'd been paying with my card over Live, the card had expired, and I was delaying until I got a subscription card instead, to save money). Basically I left it too long, and when I tried to sign in to use the code I'd bought, it kept telling me to go to 'account settings', but I couldn't get into account settings because I couldn't get on Live. Oh the fun I had with that one.
That's weird. When your Gold subscription expires you still have a Silver account. My Gold account expired recently, and I was able to sign in with zero problems. I just had a message that told me my account had reverted to Silver. I immediately went and renewed for another year.

Yea I just got off the phone with M$ and 'GameOnPantsOff' is apparently offensive in their new policy, but the funny thing was that the supervisor that I was talking with flat out told me that he didn't really get how it was offensive, that it was actually pretty damn funny and one of the better ones out there that he's seen.
So yea, todays a pretty big day for me and now I'm sitting here trying to think of a new clever GT.
My problem was because I hadn't used the pre-paid cards. It was trying to automatically bill my card (which I don't like), but that card had expired, so it couldn't. I waited too long, and rather than auto-downgrade to Silver like they really should do, they basically cancelled my account entirely. I had to explain my situation and fortunately got someone kind enough to re-activate it.
I understand if you use pre-paid cards, it drops you back down to Silver.

The same thing happened to me. I was paying for the 3-month plan and they didn't see fit to notify me that it failed to charge until it was two months later and they suspended my account.
The dumbest thing about the whole thing is that, if there's a billing issue and your account is suspended, you can't log in at all. Period. The on-screen prompts tell you to log in and use a new credit card or whatever it is you need to do to fix it, but it won't let you log in because your account is suspended, and you need to log in and put in a new credit card. But you can't. Because your account is suspended.
Edit: Oh, you said basically the same thing in your previous post. Nice!

How recently did this happen to you? I don't think it happens any more, as when my one year expired I was able to log in with a silver account and pay again without incident, less than 30 days ago.
Based on my experience over the past month, and the OP's indication that he was told to change his gamertag, I recommend he choose a tag that doesn't indicate "pant-less molester of child gamers" to some people. Ideally perhaps don't mention pants or other clothes.

Just directed Pharezon to this thread, who's had the same issue as I did, but left it longer to sort out. Sounds like they're not auto-downgrading accounts to Silver yet, which is utterly retarded. I understand it might (does?) do that if you use pre-paid cards, but not if you pay over Live with your credit/debit card? At least that's my experience with it, which is completely stupid.

Your tag isn't offensive at all, so that can't be the problem. If it is, then holy fuck, MS sure are uptight about names.

It was a little over 3 months ago.
It was around February for me, give or take.
And nobody wants to give it back to me
Did it get rectified? It's two months later for me.
I had to call them and go through a whoooole bunch of bullshit arguing, but I got it back within a few days of it being suspended.
I'm never, ever using a credit card to pay for things that are even tangentially related to Microsoft, ever again.
So it was suspended for how long? Mine has been suspended for 2 months.
I called them two or three days after it was suspended, argued with them, and they restored it. So it was only suspended for a few days.
I had an oXBox account, that auto-renewed every year on my credit card even though I didnt use it for a full year.
When I got a 360, I just did "Recover Gamertag" right off the bat, and it pulled it up just fine.
Hmm do you think I could get it restored or at least to a silver account?
