I'm glad a lot of people are looking to play tanks. In my limited experience playing on PVP servers in WoW, tanks were hard to find, and healers were over-abundant, because of how effective each role was in PVP.
I'm looking at shaman because goblins are AWESOME. Anyone who says otherwise is WRONG, unless they happen to be bigger than a goblin and also green, in which case I suppose they're entitlted to their opinion and please don't hurt me.

chosen all the way. nothing says, "hi! how are you?" like putting an axe into someone. although, being a warrior in wow, i hope the game doesn't become a button machine frenzy like the end game in wow is.
as much as i love playing a warrior i have a love/hate relationship with tanking because of how many buttons i have to press and the frequency i have to push them. granted a tingle target is simple to tank, but if i have 3 guys i need to worry about i start to fall apart and the game becomes frustrating.

Hmm, I guess I should sign up for this outfit, then. I plan to be a Squig Herder from the get-go because the class description sounds so absolutely goofy.

the entire orc race is probably going to be goofy.

You don't like pressing lots of buttons? You're not going to like the Chosen.

Yeah I have to say, the oft-repeated charge against MMO combat is that there frequently isn't *enough* player involvement.
In any case my fervent hope (repeatedly expressed here by others) is that the tank is a viable PvP archetype. To be fair being a PvP tank in WoW isn't probably as bad as I think, my younger brother had a dwarf warrior he refused to level past 29 so he could spend all day in the lower-level battlefields, and his DPS was actually pretty badass. But it sounds like there are a few different mechanics in this game's design that may make being a PvP tank play closer to what being a PvE tank is like.
You don't like pressing lots of buttons? You're not going to like the Chosen.
Yeah, from what folks are saying the Chosen (and KotBS) are capable of twisting auras. Twisting requires mad button pushing. Hopefully not as bad as some of the carpal tunnel inducing twisting classes from other games though.
And apparently, it's possible to play a Chosen and not twist auras.
I can't decide if I want to tank or dps or what. The hybrid nature of the healers is screaming to me, but I also want to beat the snot out of things with something blunt. Also...must be destruction. I've played the obvious enemy in most GW games.
Prolly shaman or black orc, maybe choppa or zealot. The dark elf classes really don't speak to me.

Warriors in WoW aren't just tanks; they can specialize in PVP abilities, pick up a two-hander, and PVP well. The thing is, if they specialize in tanking, they're awful at PVP. Same thing for paladins. It looks like, fingers crossed and all, WAR will be different in that regard. With taunt and guard working in PVP, Chosen who choose to specialize in tank-y abilities will play differently from Chosen who choose to specialize in cutting-foes-in-half-and-bathing-in-their-black-heartblood, but they'll both be effective in PVP.
If that bears out in reality, it'll be amazing. Can anyone comment on how tanking-specialized tanks played in DAOC PVP?

If they can figure a way to make tanking actually work in pvp that'll be awesome.
I think just the fact the players don't clip through each other will kind of make a difference. I picture a WAR tank as being kind of like an offensive lineman, protecting a "quarterback" healing or long range dps class in back. Dunno if it'll actually work like that but it'd be cool.
It sounds like there are various mechanics in place in pvp to make it so you want to or have no choice but to attack the tank in certain situations. That would add a whole new layer of strategy and I hope they pull it off.
If you're a paladin? Sure. A druid pre-swipe threat nerf? Sure. As a warrior? WHY DON'T YOU FUCKS PICK ONE GOD DAMNED THING TO KILL AT A TIME?
Okay, seriously, holding onto a pack while the dps goes apeshit feels badass, but WoW warrior tanking is terrible and bad and they (Blizzard) should feel bad. Paladin tanking an entire god damned instance, however, is pure sex.
Of course, if we're busy squishing people most of the day it's not a big deal, but assuming some of those pve encounters are fun and rewarding enough to do, having some quality tanks on hand never hurts.

First they came for the Muslims, and we said NOT TODAY, MOTHERFUCKER!
Guild drama is so great. Will you log in to find a new GM? Half the officers gone? Half the guild gone? A shouting matching in /g? In Vent? Ninja looting?
And yet, no one gets pissy when you can't play a Male Witch Elf. I'm am continuously surprised when people bitch and moan that they can't play a female Chosen.
That's because witch elves being female only is in the lore
Marauders and chosen being male only is not said anywhere in the lore ever, and there have in fact been (like someone mentioned earlier) a female chosen in an official story.
Just felt like pointing that out. With this said I'm fine, albeit a bit annoyed with mythics choices. It just seems lazy on their part.
I think this is the key to all the bitching. If they had come out and said "Nope, no exceptions! No male sorcerors, no female dwarves, no female marauders, SUCK IT UP!" then fine. But they clearly bent or broke the rules for some classes, so why not others?

I played a Bard up to level 35 in EQ and did full instrument twisting. NEVER again....

The classes that they did follow the lore to the T (Witch Elves and all the OnGs) theres no way around it there has never been a female orc and theres never been a Male Witch Elf (even the name is bias against men). The Sorceror although currently lore breaking doesn't actually break the lore.
I will once again reference the Darkblade series (very good read for anyone wanting to play Dark Elves) pretty much every elf knows magic to some degree, the most common form for dark elves is for them to create a "shade" which basically an out of body experience that they can control in order to scout. Malekith imposed a rule disallowing all Males from magic. I can totally see the Witch King allowing them to inlist and use their powers todestroy the High Elves and then turn around and "reward" the Sorcerors with death.
But in pure speculation I believe GW gave the OK for the things they bent because they were just stereotypes put in place by their customers and not actually how things went down in their version of the IP.
Plus, it wouldn't be a first for GW to launch a few new models and units for the tabletop game which mirrior the classes from WAR a little more closely.
Mythic gets to be slightly more creative (if bigoted/sexist/preferential/whathaveyou) and GW gets to sell new things.

Thats not true, the whole orcs reproduce from spores was retconed in, in the 90s. This link will show a pic of GW orc villager minis from the 80s, and two from the top and two from the right is a orc female /w orc kids. My point? GW fluff (lore to you MMO types) is set in mud. I don’t really care about being able to play a girl chosen I just wanted to show smart I am by correcting someone on the interweb.

Skeletons in heroic Crypts? Check. All six HFC guards in heroic Shattered Halls? Motherfucking check.
I once chain pulled all the way from Attumen to Prince. Glorious.

My favorite was when everyone but me (Warlock) and the priest died, and we took down 5 Elites in one of those Shattered Halls pulls.
Fucking glorious.

But do it anyways. Just so people feel left out.
We need some guild drama up in here. That always helps guilds out, right?
Nice.
Keeps you on your toes, for sure.
Nothing better than logging in to find your guild gone, find yourself as the new GM and find out all the crap you left in guild storage is gone.
I almost mentioned summoning you in my post, heh.

I can't imagine why taking the WAR thread on a high school field trip could possibly be a bad idea.
On one hand It is my very nature to get into the thickest of the thick fighting and going out with a bang
But the idea of allowing other people to get into that same position and not go out at all excites me in many ways
I was honestly just going to post a list of everyone who posted in this thread.
Because you can't wait to gank us on your crazy FFA server? :winky:
