Robothero, I play aggressive CQB to medium range class/weapons in FPS games. In RPG/MMOs I love melee and in WoW I had a 70 Rogue and 70 Warrior, what class for me?
EQ1: 65 Cleric with lots of AA's (dark elf)
DAoC: Armsman (halbred)
WoW: Mage (Ice spec Gnome)
CoX: Scrapper (Katana/Regen)
AoC: Priest of Mitra
Vanguard: Disciple (cross between a monk and a cleric)

I play a resto shammy who has a bad habit of adding her 45dps to melee in herocis/raids.
I also play a prot warrior. I'm really good at DPS but I love off-tanking a lot. I MT sometimes but I find Main tanking somewhat boring.
I was brought to this game by the marauder....but I hate rogues in WoW because they stunlock my shammy. Since it seems melee healers will be > melee dps I'm likely looking at a melee healer type. On the destruction side naturally...

Anyways, Mark Jacobs had a little interview with my alma mater MMORPG today, and apparently there is more news tomorrow concerning WAR.
EAMythic is no more. Mythic Entertainment lives on!

I don't want to ruin the surprise, but I also don't want you to get your hopes up. No, it has nothing to do with beta, or any other date for that matter.

Is the DoK your go to class for anyone who loves doing everything?
I can't decide between a Sorcerer and Bright Wizard. I vastly prefer the concept of the Bright Wizard, I love fire spells and the spell effects and such. However, the Wizard looks so damned dorky and I don't like the fact he doesn't actually wear a robe (more of a tabard kinda thing) while the Sorcerer has a badass spiky outfit (sans the headpiece which is hideable).
Destruction will be overpopulated though, so I'll probably use that as my excuse to go with Brights.

I just don't know how anyone can make this judgment now.

Agreed. It's not like the screen shots you are seeing is the only armour you will pick up in the game. Actually, I'll bet 95% of the people you come across will look nothing like their class screen shot counterparts.
I like how two pages of Robothero telling people what class they should play started with me going "I played a druid in wow, oh and btw MAN I AM EXCITED ABOUT PLAYING A SHAMAN" and him going "YOU SHOULD PLAY A ZEALOT"
As to "destruction will be overpopulated," I'm worried about it too, but there's absolutely no way to actually predict population balance, other than gut feeling based on how it is now and how people talk.
Hardcore WAR fans are largely into destruction. Hardcore Warcraft fans were largely into horde. We see how that worked out.

This looks fun, someone recommend a class for me too!
In WoW I had a 60 Shaman (mostly enhancement), 60 Hunter, 70 Priest (mostly holy and this is by far my most played character) and a 70 Mage (ice). Above all else I want a character that is respected, I liked my priest for my ability to get groups, I liked my Shaman for owning everyone in duels, I liked my hunter and mage for just completely dominating everything (except hunters sucked more after BC).
Love to tank, but with a combo system? Hawt. Channeling my desires for a WoW Warrior/Rogue merge of classes.
Love to heal, but with more than just a few standard heals and area-wide buffs/debuffs. Pretty much why I loved the Controller Archtype from City of Heroes.

Dang that game (CITY OF HEROES, I mean) had lots of great character creation ideas, but Holy Moley was the gameplay a big grind-a-holic bore.

I liked the game play, but I didn't like the fact that you can just level like a raving MADMAN by getting power-leveled.
I started out leveling in the traditional manner. At about level 20 I grouped with some high-levels in my guild as a sidekick... I got about 15 levels that night. What the fuck?

I agree. The archtype for sidekicks is to be incredibly lame for many years and story cycles before coming into their own. That's how Robin did it anyways. Hah. What a dork!

Well, I just don't like that the norm in that game is to be power-leveled straight to the end-game.
I enjoy leveling. I take pride in my end-game character. That, and end-game is when I typically get burnt out on an MMO... so I see no reason to rush to that point.

If I knew I could do that I would probably still be playing CoH
Take EvE...no real endgame. It's all endgame after the first tutorials.
WoW is this massive PvE endgame that gets nerfed over time (or nerf equivalents like badge loot). One of the draws away from WoW is that i spent 1+ years in TBC and only got about 1/1 or 2/2 into TK/SSC. After 6 months and all the "nerfs" i come back and my guild is into BT/Hyjal and people just hitting level 70 can get beyond where I spent 1.5 years getting to in about...3 months of solid playing because badge loot outclasses my T4.
WAR is going to be conflict which hopefully gives parallel expansions as someone mentioned Mythic is prone to doing. I'd rather have new abilities than buffed abilities to make the game more complex. Wtfpwning some guy a few levels lower than me is fun for 0.3 seconds.
I hear AoC's endgame is non-existant. This doesn't irk me much because I don't think they got the funding WAR did with the IP they used. I like the screenshots even if i won't buy the game. I don't think WAR is going to have this problem though. The whole game seems to be based on the endgame...which is where Mythic knows they'll create lasting relationships with their customer's wallets.

I don't think WAR players will feel as compelled to rush to the endgame as in other games. You don't have to race to the level cap to get to the good stuff.
In WoW some players see low level BGs as a waste of time because PvP cuts into xp/hour and any item rewards are quickly outleveled. In WAR, low level RvR is encouraged through experience and renown. You don't have to sacrifice leveling speed for fun, and some of the rewards from renown ranks are permanent (stat boosts). (See the Massive articles and the Origins one linked a few pages back for info.)
In addition to the personal rewards, low level RvR has an effect on the overall war effort. In the short run, taking control of a zone gives a zone-wide bonus. In the long run, success helps leveling up your capital city, opening up new content: previously closed areas in the city, new quests, and new dungeons. It also opens up further zones for conquest as you advance on the enemy capital.
Unlike most games, WAR's endgame is not radically different than its leveling content. No paradigm shift from solo/group content to mainly large raids. The game is based on having fun all along the way from level 1 up to the level cap and beyond. From the lowest to the highest levels, you can do scenarios, help take keeps in open world RvR, or do PvE/Public quests as you like.
That's the theory behind the design, anyway, and from what they've shown recently it appears to be true.
