Setting up a Ventrilo Server

I got myself and an ex a couple of MMOs to play, and rather than be on the phone while playing, I figured it would be easier to talk via headset. I remembered Ventrilo from my old days of playing SWG and decided to use that. I downloaded a client on her machine and a client and server for mine.

I followed the instructions off the Vent site, but for some reason, it's just not working right. Neither of us can connect to the Vent server that I have running in the background. I've gone to a "what's my ip" site and she types that in the server host name. Doesn't work. I tried using my 192... number since I'm connecting on my home network (static ip on all machines), that doesn't work.

Help?

If you're using a router, you'll probably need to forward the port Ventrilo is using. I believe the default is 3784.
