Error Installing WINXP Using Slipstreamed CD

KupulaKupula Registered User regular
So, I've created a new Windows XP bootable install disk with SP3 slipstreamed onto it. I created it using an application called nLite. The CD boots into the install, and it copies all the installation files onto the drive, then it starts the install and gives me a message which reads:

SXS.DLL: Assembly under D:\I386\asms\WIN9XUPG could not be installed because manifest is missing.

ERROR:
Installtion failed: D:\I386\asms. Error Message: There are no more files.

I have a tried a lot of stuff already to no avail. I've burned at least 6 cds trying different things. All of my *.man files have information in them, so I don't believe any of them are corrupt. Any help on this issue would be much appreciated!

I did a google search and a MS knowledge base search and came up with nothing. Usually a string of windows errors returns a plethora or results for solutions so I'm not sure what to tell ya.

Are you installing on a fresh partition? Upgrading from a previous version of windows?

The best lead I found on the nlite forums is that you burned the ISO created by nlite without long filenames.

The install is on a fresh partition on a brand new computer I am building. I direct burned my cd with nLite, so I am not sure that would be a problem. Could this error possibly be hardware driven? I am out of ideas at this point. Thanks for trying to help though!

Only advice that I can give you is that as I'm not sure how many people are actually going to be slipstreaming SP3 into an XP install, you're probably not going to have many people having the problem to begin with. I'm assuming you nLite'd an SP2 XP disc, so your best bet would to be just install XP with that and install SP3 from a flash drive or something once you're in.

It'd be nice and all to have SP3 slipstreamed in, but if it's giving you terminal errors, just revert back to SP2 and install SP3 manually, because you still have the necessary files to do so without having to go through the Windows Update service.

Nah there are tons of IT folks out there slipstreaming SP3, or trying to at least. Wish I could help you, but I would just stick with the nlite forums myself. After I had the cd-key auth problem because I slipstreamed from a Vista box, I got pissed and forgot about it for awhile. Still need to do it.

edit: if you can't fix it, just have the SP3 install on the same DVD. it's lame i know, but eh...

My slipstream disc of SP3 works without any problem. I did not use any special app to do it though.
