The CH Flightstick was a godly piece of equipment. Modern Joysticks tremble in its presence.

I killed a Wingman 3D in less than eight months. CH Flightstick? Still going.

So I decided to look up one of these things and I actually have one of these monsters in my basement. When I get around to playing Freespace 2, I'll whip it out.

It should be noted that my CH Flightstick is roughly 17 years old and functioning like the day it was purchased.

That's correct: There are posters on this board that aren't as old as my CH Flightstick - and don't perform nearly as well when plugged into a computer and used to manipulate space fighters.

Well I just picked up Stonekeep! I'm excited to finally play it. I remember reading maybe one article about it years ago and thinking that the box was really neat, but I don't think I had the system to run it in 1995, and I wasn't as excited by this style of RPG back then.

Just played and beat Fallout for the first time ever. <3 GOG. I now see what all the fuss over the Fallout series was about, and am now very excited for Fallout 3. Then I started Fallout 2... Oh god. This is sick, evil stuff. As a player intent on some gun-toting, groin-shooting mayhem, the opening dungeon is beyond brutal (since I am a psychotic completionist and refuse to leave any objects un-looted). Yeah, it really is terrible. If you can make it through the first dungeon, there's a pretty easy way to get some guns that I worked out after searching everywhere for them.

-Do all the opening quests in Arroyo. Run past any combat necessary (rescuing Smoke). If you really feel up to some pain, you can accept the medicine man's quest to kill the plants. If you get low on health, just run back to him and he'll fill you up.
-Take the unarmed/melee tutorials available in town, if you can. You should have high PE and probably be able to get the sharpened spear, too. Talk to the guard at the end of the bridge about it.
-Make your way to Klamath. Loot Vic's shop and all the stuff you can find.
    -Sell everything to free Sulik.
-After you have Sulik in your party, go to The Den (I think there's a person who marks it on your map, maybe if you ask about Vic?)
-In the Den, head straight to Tubby's and kill him, then loot all of his guns and ammo.

After that, you can go ahead and do Klamath, then come back and do the Den quests.

Something that might help you if you're in the temple is working out howmany action points the creatures have to move and act per turn. Then you just hit / run every turn, and they shouldn't really be able to touch you (assuming you've got enough action points)

Do NOT sell everything. In Vic's shop there's a radio that you'll want to keep hold of.

Anyone else still not able to get a beta code out of these guys? I originally signed up before Sept. 8th, I've signed up multiple times with various e-mail addresses, and corresponded with them by their contact address with no results.

They asked me for the addresses I applied with, I gave them the info, they replied saying they didn't have a record of anyone applying with some totally different address than the one I gave them.

Argh, very frustrating when all you want to do is grab a copy of Fallout.

So is Fallout 1 skippable or is it necessary leading into Fallout 2.

Also is it possible to get a 360 controller to work with Freespace 2? Or do I need a stick?

I guess I probably shouldn't skill Freespace 1 either though.

There's no point in skipping Fallout 1 to go to Fallout 2 because Fallout 1 is better.

I don't know how complex the controls are, but if there are less controls than there are buttons you can use xpadder or somesuch. Course, I don't know how well the flying will control that way, either.

Unless I hear radically different I'll hold out until I can find a decent quality inexpensive stick.

The 360 controller works with Freespace 2, or at least FS2Open. The only issue I have is binding the triggers, but that may be because I'm too lazy to do so effectively.

More buttons are required than are available on the 360 controller, but I'm currently trying to figure out which ones are needed less often.

I was excited to see that they have Kingdom The Far Reaches as one of their upcoming games, as I'm a total sucker for FMV titles. Yes, it's true. I'm one of "those people." I love Dragon's Lair, Mad Dog McCree, and QTE's. I bought Target Terror.

I may be part of the problem, but then again clearly not, as the genre died a horrible death. That doesn't stop me from having a whole shelf of them though. :) I hope to see more FMV classics on GOG.

I, too, am a little disappointed by my re-experience with MDK. I am, however, finding that my memories of DbtS doesn't even come close to match the experience. Damn, this game is a lot more awesome than I remember. Some sections seem like "I Wanna Be The Guy" 3d, but there's just so many memorable fucking moments..

    That being said.. fuck ogres.

    Also, fuck the tentacle room.

In addition, fuck that room where you walk in, pull the most obvious lever and is promptly blown to bits for no apparent reason. And the giant gears right afterwards.

Ps. fuck that room with the dragons that instadeaths you.

But all that aside, I'm having a blast. Some rooms are just unbearably epic for a game that's so blocky, I hardly can tell what's going on in the cutscenes. I think some people just don't get the whole "it's fun to fail - multiple times" type gameplay. And the swordplay is a lot (a whole lot) more bearable if you just skip right over trying to juggle the damn vsim with your mouse and just use your numeric pad.

Edit: Also - I just realized that Redneck Rampage on GOG is a collection of the three games... for 6 bucks.. Hot damn!

I have to say so far I've been very, very impressed with Good Old Games.

For $5.99 I got Fallout (which runs flawlessly incidentally), the entire soundtrack on mp3, a very nice high resolution .pdf manual, a controls reference card, a very nice set of wallpapers for both the title itself and the series, and a set of avatars. It's also quite nice to not have to keep up with a disc.

As if that wasn't they had a "Buy 1, Get 1 Free" promotion which enabled me to get all of the above for Fallout 2 at no additional cost :)

Out of the blue just now, my antivirus (CA Antivirus) popped up saying that the Fallout 2 installer exe contained "Win32/Adclicker.JO" and deleted it. (Nice of it to tell me now, after I installed it and played it for a day.)

So then I told it to scan the Fallout 1 installer (which I've had for a good... two weeks?) and it said it had it too and deleted it.

But I find this suspicious, since 1. I've already had them for so long; 2. CA Antivirus is supposed to scan the executable when it executes; 3. I've yet to hear a single report about anything malicious coming out of GOG.

I've been using CA Antivirus for years and it has had a single false positive before. So, what do you guys think?
