I want to buy FS1&2 so hard yet the best controlling device I have here is a 360 gamepad...

So, my question is, should I just go and grab Saitek stick for 50 bucks, or will it be worth it to splurge and get the thrust control as well?

    Off topic but: Dude, what?

For $20 you aren't ever going to get a "good" joystick.

And you should probably play with a good one.

Exactly my problem. What do people recommend as the most-inexpensive-yet-not-going-to-break-within-the-first-week joystick?

I want to, but there are no good affordable ($20) joysticks I can find. Is it playable without one?

Bite the bullet and get a $50 joystick. Its totally worth it even if you only use it for FS1/2.

I haven't owned a good joystick in years, but let me tell you the level of enjoyment from an decent verses cheap joystick is pretty huge.

Get one with metal in it somewhere. Basically, you should feel you could easily kill an intruder with it.

For the LOW, LOW PRICE of $150 you too can receive a USB modded PantherXL joystick!

    Included features:
    • USB Connection - Use the joystick without the need of a game port!
    • HAT Switches numbered lower - HAT is now number 1-14
    • USB Trackball Support - Useful in any game with mouse support
    • Optical Tracking - A modded optical mouse will be tracking the movements of the ball
    • Quality Parts - Everything is original except for the optical recognition and USB headers that replace the game port connection

If I had money to burn I would order one today. I didn't even know people were still doing this to that joystick. MadCatz could be making a fortune off these.

And yes, you could kill an intruder with one of these and continue gaming with it! They were built like tanks. About as heavy as one too.

OKAY, the real question here is...

With Sacrifice being re-sold at such a bargain, is there a chance they have their multiplayer servers online? I remember there was a community of players that set up their own game patch and had a pretty thriving multiplayer network, but I don't remember where I found it.

I would love to do some Sacrificin' teams matches.

Sounds like a lot of fun!
I'd have to check if my old Sacrifice copy runs on Vista though ;)
I think I still have some custom spellbooks in here somwhere :D

    So what is Sacrifice?

And while I haven't looked terribly hard since, apparently the page I bookmarked wasn't the login page, but the normal front page. Low and behold, I bounce over to their site a couple days ago to pick up Fallout, and unless I'm missing something (I didn't look too hard), the link to the login isn't on their front page, and unfortunately during a recent purge of junk mail in my account, I accidentally erased the email from them. Can someone send me the login page link? :P Am I really THAT blind in not seeing the stupid thing on their front page? (Can't look now, as it's blocked from work)

Know what, I'm in love with this service. This has probably been mentioned already, but I still want to bring it up. Not only do you get the game you purchase, they also offer loads of extras for free with it (though I don't know if this applies for all games)! As an example, here's what you get with the Fallout Tactics purchase:

I just got one of these (today) and it is indeed shockingly better than the last joystick I had, which was pretty poor and refused to centre properly. This thing is like a glorious, well-hewn rock.

So on the Infinity Engine games front: Not much hope of it, at least not from Interplay:

    http://www.interplay.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=20
I'm pretty sure Planescape will not be included in that deal. All of the D&D licensed titles are no longer available to Interplay (the licensing agreement with Atari/Hasbro/WOTC has expired). I'd sell you mine, except I really like it and hope to play it again someday. ^_^

Also in other, bizarre, Interplay news:
The company also announced that Chris Taylor, a game designer who was a part of the original Fallout game development team at Interplay in 1994, has rejoined the company. Taylor will serve as Lead System Designer for “Project V13,” the working title of Interplay’s next generation Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMO) currently in development. Taylor joins other original Fallout team members on staff at Interplay’s internal game studio, which recently opened an office in Irvine, Calif. Additional development staff members continue to be hired as the project ramps-up.''

I honestly have no idea what to think of this.

It's Interplay's final attempt at self-resurrection, when they sold the Fallout rights to Bethesda they made sure to withhold the MMO rights as long as they were doing something with them (Bethesda own the MMO rights aswell, but Interplay are leasing them as part of the deal).

EDIT: It has been known, discussed and feared among the Fallout fanatics for a long time that Herve Caen really, really wants to make a Fallout MMO and he is willing to keep a dead company alive by any means necessary to do so.

Yeah I know. I'm just thinking that after seeing the shambling zombie that the company had become, do they really have a chance at a comeback? I honestly don't know.

They might make some bit cash from the GOG deal, but the rest seems to be riding on getting funding for and creating "V13", which is an iffy thing. ESPECIALLY with it being an MMO.

Of course, this talking point now requires a link to that comic:

Well he got 15 mill (not sure) from selling Fallout and I think the deal set a mark of X mill he had to reach in outside funding in order to keep the right to make an MMO, if he has started hiring back people and he still haven't lost the right, then his voodoo seems to be working.

EDIT: there is also the comic with Bethesda going to Herve's garage sale.

Also he has to get 30,000,000 in funding for the project.

You know how, when you're playing Monopoly, and someone's clearly about to go out, they've got maybe a single crappy set with no houses on them, one or two of them probably mortgaged too, and no money in the bank.. and then they land on one of your hotels, but you decide to arrange a deal with them rather than make them pay the full amount?

    I see parallels.

there is a project out there that claims to have finished everything that was left out of Fallout 2 and puts a few things back in. Playing through a new game (thank god it saves my character build) and the random event they added at the beginning was quite interesting. Hopefully it cleared out all the bugs.

I really want to see Oni with it's bugs ironed out and made Vista compatible. Does someone own the rights to the game that would make it possible for it to pop up on GOG, or did Bungie West's untimely demise throw the title into limbo?

In other news, for $17.97 I just bought Sacrifice, Giants, and Shogo. I'm lovin' this shit.

Sacrifice always looked cool but I never owned, Giants I lost my disks for, and my copy of Shogo got crushed by a falling amp. Amp still works great...

Man I remember that game. For all it's flaws the combat system was a dream to play. It's just a shame that the plot and level design left so much to be desired.
