I got Outcast to run on Win7, I just want a ready made package.
That's pretty awesome, then. I'm excited for it to come out if compatibility isn't an issue. I just can't stand doing weird, stupid things like killing Explorer, or running a CPU killer application. I don't need a 10 year old game straining my system as if I were running Linpack on max.
Though, even if it has technical problems, it's worth paying for the soundtrack alone. Fantastic stuff.
GOG is exceptional when it comes to audio support. Not only do they usually keep game audio intact for releases that used CDDA, they usually also release a 'bonus content' pack along with the game - So you might actually be able to download the soundtrack as a bundle of MP3s after release.

I don't mean to poop on GoG, but the soundtrack was actually included with the original game on the second CD. So it'll probably be in the installation directory regardless of whether or not they'll offer an extra download :P

The second CD had the music on it in CDDA format, so it was never 'installed' with the game, from what I remember.
I don't remember using anything as extreme as killing explorer to run Outcast. IT's really clunky, though, the interface takes some time to get used to.
I think I don't remember the soundtrack all that well because I turned the sound all the way down after hearing the Star Wars theme for the 3,495th time. Was there some way to get that guy to stop doing it permanently? I paid him once, but it only shut him up for a few minutes before he started in on it again.

I know, but the standard practice for digital releases of games that feature CD audio is to redirect the .ini or whatever to play the extracted mp3s instead. Either way the music has to be included in the installer for it to actually play within the game.

I seem to recall ID themselves actually putting the soundtrack up on their site for use with the Steam version. I don't know why they didn't just include it with the game, but that's not exactly common either.

The DVD version of Outcast had music in MP3 format on the disk, so if they used that version they're golden. The only problems I had with running the game on a modern system were sound (had to turn audio acceleration off, otherwise the music would run too fast) and wonky gamepad support, since the game expects a joystick and thus maps things oddly.
As expected, there doesn't seem to be a way to run Outcast in fullscreen, so you'll have to make do with a huge letterbox. And the controls take some getting used to. Other than that, I think it holds up pretty well so far.

Doesn't it just do console-style "mouse is camera, WSAD is movement relative to camera" movement? I don't remember it being particularly clunky (unlike, say, System Shock 1).

Looks like they completely fixed the issues that required a CPU killer in Outcast, and on top of that the CD audio is patched in as expected. Kudos to GOG! The only issue that remains in the resolution one, which is rather irksome, but still workable.
Also, does anyone know what version of MoOII has been released? Is this a DOSBox one, or a patched windows version? I have my own DOSBox installation already, and I kind of dislike it when GOG installers drop another copy of DOSBox on my machine.
I still get a pretty rocky framerate in the first large area.
But man, I am suddenly reminded of how crazily ambitious this game was. And how much of that ambition actually came to fruition. This game was the reason I never found games like Half-Life or Halo to be at all impressive at the time.

I tried to purchase MoO1+2, but my NoScript threw an enormous fit and kicked me out when the "Verified by Visa" screen came up. I'm scared to try purchasing it again.
And yes it is, I only played it for the first time two or three years ago.

Yeah, the battle system was awesome. Star Trek: Birth of the Federation had a similar system in 3D. That's another great 4X game, by the way, especially if you're a Star Trek fan.

Now that would be a game I'd pick up in a heartbeat. I still have fond memories of that game. Well, aside from when some crystalline/borg/world destroyer showed up on like turn ten. Then fuck that game.

You still get the option to put in any music CD that you like. Johnny Cash plus Quake II is good times.
Steam Support is the worst. Seriously, the worst
And coming soon: Master of Magic and One Unit Whole Blood (a.k.a Blood 1 and its expansions)

Wait, Blood 1? Oh shit, the Spaniard is going to shit his pants.
How did I miss this earlier? Yay!
MoO 1+2 bought! From a gameplay perspective, is there any reason to play 1 instead of 2?

Most 4X games do. :P

That said, many love to this day the space battle system in MoO 2 over anything else offered in a 4X Spacer. That is why I'll eventually pick this up.

heard such good things but never got the chance to play.
Fuck you, I'm more excited about Blood coming out

Man I got so happy when I saw that. Freaking loved that game.
Meh. I'll get them from Moby Games.
