Fucking GOG downloads are soooooooooooooo slow... both browser and downloader won't go past 20KBps.
And, no, it's not my router or firewall, because I can download stuff from other websites and torrents at top speed.

I've never experienced any speeds I would describe as blazing from GOG, but 20Kbps sounds slower than what I remember experiencing. It's probably just that their servers are getting hammered because, you know, Master of Orion.
Nah, they're always shitty.
Probably a consequence from downloading from a Polish server in Brazil.
I get 200k/s normally - same as with Steam or any other non-capped downloads. Their servers just get totally destroyed during big sales and major releases (that Majesco pack weekend was especially painful) - and I assume that demand isn't really high enough normally to simply buy more.

I hope you're right
because downloading the 2 gigs from Gothic 2 is taking more than a day.
In an interesting twist of fate, GalCiv and MoO1 were released in the same year. An expansion to GalCiv and MoO2 were released in the same year, and GalCiv2 and MoO3 were released in the same year.

Huh? What kind of crazy alternate timeline do you come from? I mean, just for starters...
Master of Orion (MoO or MOO) is a turn-based, 4X science fiction computer strategy game released in 1993 by MicroProse on the MS-DOS and Mac OS operating systems.
Yeah, it released today and it works fine. It's got a wonky control scheme though and you can't remap the buttons so unless there's a .cfg file you can edit it'll take some getting used to. Still, it's fun and I can't wait to play through it (like you I only played the shareware version).

I just signed up for GOG (pretty much for Kingpin: Life of Crime), but I haven't downloaded it, yet. I was all set to cop but I noticed the multiplayer issue.
How common is this amongst GOG games? This may be moot for Kingpin but do they frequently restrict or limit features like this? Do you download the ISO of the game and it installs from there (ergo, would it be possible to modify a multiplayer server list once I've downloaded it)?
Sorry if these have been answered already, I searched.
Final point of personal interest: Does anyone still play Kingpin?

Anyone have a read on how MoO / MoO2 are running on their modern Win XP / Vista systems?
MoO2 has been running fine for me on XP (playing it in a window, if that matters.)
The GOG version defaults to running the DOS version of the game in DOSBox. From what I've seen on their forums, they did this because they actually applied the unofficial 1.40 fan-patch to the game, which never was compatible with the Windows version. Bottom line is that it should run quite well, seeing as DOSBox is pretty solid.
If you want to play the windows version for one reason or another, there are ways to do it, too. Not sure about stability there.
Master of Orion II has massive mouse lag in some dialogs for me, changing taxes/naming planets is some of them. In battles scrolling is way too fast. It has the Windows 7 color problem (which is easily fixable) and is for some weird reason picky about audio setups.
The DOS version has none of these issues, working multiplayer and supports the latest fan patch. There's really no good reason to run the Windows version unless you're on a very slow computer.

They always do what they can to fix compatibility problems I would guess, and of course anti cheating systems will complain about that. What would you prefer, an unplayable game or a smaller online server selection?

Check the start menu items again, you can run the DOS setup program, I would guess you can with all DOSBox games on GOG. Also, the controls are pretty much standard, not wonky.

MOO2 runs perfect on Win7 for me full screen. MOO loaded up no problem as well, but I haven't actually played it yet.
What does the unofficial 1.4 patch change exactly?
Edit: NM. I found the changelog. Mostly just bug fixes and few additional command line.
The bottom of the market for Blood collection just fell out apparently, as Blood is now available for the lowlow price of $5.99
Alright bought Had so much fun going through Duke Nukem 3D when it dropped, and I haven't played the original Blood at all so I think I'm gonna enjoy this!

Tron 2.0 would be awesome to replay through, especially with the new movie coming out
AvP2 would go nicely with AvP2000 up on Steam
NOLF 1 & 2 are classic (and contract jack i guess)

Oh man, Tron 2.0. That game was like fucking nerd central. Actual joke from that game: "You'd lose your header if it wasn't compiled on."
The sad part was that I laughed.

I enjoyed what I played of Tron 2.0. The only thing that irritated me was the frisbee was just an unlimited ammo gun. I'm really considering grabbing a few games off GoG now that they're getting games I used to love. MoO 2... I lost so much time to that.

lol monolith has the silliest publishing history
Blood 2 = GT Interactive
NOLF = Fox Interactive
NOLF2 = Sierra
Contract JACK = Vivendi
Tron 2.0 = Buena Vista Interactive
no wonder these games aren't on GoG, they'll probably never be up anywhere

That's what happens with any independent studio. They shop every game around to every publisher they can think of to see who will give them the best deal. It's also what happens to a studio that keeps getting bought by different publishers.

oh for sure but a lot of developers sign multi game deals or stick with the same developer a few times in a row just based on past relationships

I completely missed out on the NOLF games and Contract JACK. I'd love to see them up on GOG.
And I totally reinstalled Tron 2.0 after seeing the trailers for the new Tron movie on Hulu. It's still a lot of fun, and I love the Disk, I hardly ever use anything else. Of course, I also used to fantasize about getting digitized by the MCP and fighting on the Game Grid when I was a kid.

turns out i did still have my Tron 2.0 CD! and The Tron 2.0 Killer App Mod 1.1 finally came out just by chance last week!
For the past 3 hours I've been replaying the first part of the game in 1920x1080 glory
it's still awesome and has a graphical style that still makes it look nice and modern
I got Another World today. Is it just me or is this game ball bustingly hard? The atmosphere is great and all but man is the game fustrating. Should I be playing with a gamepad?

I wonder how much the 2003 version resembles the 1993 OS/2 version?
And while OS/2 may have seen a GalCiv 2, I would hazard a bet that it's not much like the GalCiv 2 we all know and love.
Still, it's interesting to learn that GalCiv has a pedigree as old as MoO.

edit - well I'll be damned, Shogo is out on gog?!? wtf did that happened?
in that case i will say No Blood 2 or No One Lives Forever?
1. If they released Blood 1, they'll be sure to release Blood 2 down the line. There isn't any obvious reason not to.
2. The released Shogo: Mobile Armored Division forever ago you silly goose.
