"Everything was going just fine, and then BLAMMO! The apartment next to me just exploded in flames and light." said one neighbor of the man known only as 'Echo'.
Well, it's only 57 milliamps in 7 months, it'll take a while to get over 9000.
Some of you might remember a while back I posted here looking for help installing ram in my macbook. I was successful, but I've run into some strange little problems.
I bring my mac with me to school every day, and I really like to put it to sleep and just wake it up when I get to school. It now turns off instead of staying in sleep mode, and when I try to start it up back, I just hear a series of 3 loud consecutive beeps. Usually I just take out the battery and put it back in, and that seems to do the trick, but its getting annoying.
Ruh-roh. That probably means one of those 2 sticks is bad. Does OS X recognize both sticks and tell you that you've got the correct amount in there? Might want to take 1 stick out, try booting, and if it seems ok, swap the sticks and try booting again.

Every time I've checked, I've seen this:
I'll try booting with 1 stick each when I get home where my tools are. Thanks.
I figure there's an iTunes wiz in here who can help me.
I listen to a lot of podcasts, and I have my iTunes set to sync the 3 most recent new, ie unplayed, to my ipod.
I usually listen to the rest of any that I didn't finish on my ipod on my computer, but sometimes it gets backed up and I forget which ones I didn't finish. Is there a way I can use the smart playlist system to make a playlist that is all my partially played podcasts?
I need a little help. I watch the BBC iPlayer a lot, and its a flash player... I cant seem to get my screen to not dim. Is this normal? is there something I'm missing?
does it register a partially played podcast as a play? i'm pretty sure for songs you have to listen through the whole thing before it updates the "plays" column. try making a playlist for "played" but with "0 listens" podcast
okay i tried it, there is no option for just "played". there is one for "last played" but it gives me funky results. i did try just "is podcast" and "0 playcount" and that seems to work though. but you'll have to listen through the poadcasts entirely when you're done with them, not stop it like a minute before or something.

I manage my podcasts manually for this reason alone. I just tell it to sync all podcasts to my iPod, then delete them from iTunes when I finish listening/watching.
what would you guys say the chances are someone makes an iPod app that let's you stream music from the touch or phone to an airport express base station (airtunes style)? Where would one "suggest" an app like that be made?

Man, make it yourself! Just kidding.
If someone were to walk into my apartment right now they would think a couple of crazies lived here. My wife and I are both on the couch with our MacBooks and both of our iPhones are on the coffee table and the desktop is playing some itunes playlist.

If you go into System Preferences > Energy Saver, click across to the Options tab and deselect Automatically reduce the brightness etc etc... I think that should solve your problem.
So, I just had a look at the new iTunes visualiser (I know, it's taken me a while, but I rarely use this feature) and it is pretty damn neat. But tell me, those black circles that the little glowy orbs (which absolutely go off when there's a lot going on in the rhythm section! Too cool!) fight... are they just meant to be black circles? They just seem a little out of place, well, until they have sparkly stuff orbiting around them and they inevitably implode in a flash of colour.

So you're not allowed to watch Netflix movies online on a Mac. I do have a Windows partition though - would it work to run Parallels or VMFusion to watch Netflix movies while still doing stuff on the Mac part? Which one would be better? I haven't looked into either one yet b/c I only use Windows to play games, but if this Netflix thing works I might have to invest in one of them.

right now, VMWare Fusion 2 kicks the crap out of Parallels, but Parallels is countering with version 4 of their software sometime soon.... but if you want to get going on this now, just buy VM ware fusion, make sure its a 2.0 copy (if not you can download 2.0 off the web for free and use the 1.x reg code), and you are good to go.

it's incredible how much smoother everything runs with 2 gigs of ram rather than 1. Like clicking the Skitch icon on the system bar brings it up instantaneously rather than taking ten seconds. And Firefox hasn't crashed once.

Not exactly what you want, but if you jailbreak your phone/touch you can get software that sets up a Firefly music sharing server (aka an iTunes 'shared library'). You could use that to access your iPhone/Touch music from your computer, which then streams to the airport express station. Admittedly, you probably want to do this to get away from having to use a desktop or laptop.
So I'm in starbucks posting from an iPod. How much of a stereotype am I?
Insufficient data to surmise. Please complete the following survey:
Are you wearing a beret?
If no, is your hair deliberately styled to look messy, as if you just woke up?
Are you wearing a t-shirt with a 'funny' caption?
Are you wearing any clothing or accessories that is new, yet looks 'distressed' or 'vintage'?
Double points if you are currently or have ever worn a funny t-shirt, distressed jeans, and a sport coat at once. Quadruple points if the sport coat was pin striped.
Is your belt buckle roughly the same diameter as a medieval knight's shield?
How thick are the frames of your glasses?
Have you ever deliberately used the words 'gravitas' or 'gestalt' other than when trying to impress a teacher/professor? Have you ever used either of those words while inside a Starbucks?
How many times in the past hour have you loudly declared "I don't even own a television"?
Have you quoted articles/stories from the following while on Starbucks property:
DemocracyNow
Adbusters
Alternet
Huffington Post
Did you just seriously consider buying that fucking Natalie Imbruglia CD in the display by the register?
Did you think Akeelah and the Bee was just the best movie ever?
Okay jesus christ what the fuck is wrong with Time Machine.
Every now and then (daily now) it will get stuck in the "Preparing..." stage and all access my external drive will be suspended. Like I'll by typing merrily in TextMate and then hit save and the save panel tries to load all my drives and BEACHBALL. I can get out of it only by turning off my backup drive or doing a hard reset.

If true, that's a terribly expensive and wasteful way to make the casings for no real benefit aside from aesthetics.
I remember seeing the high-pressure waterjet cutting tool on Bill Nye back in the day.
Yeah this seems pretty stupid and wasteful. Using lasers and high-pressure water to carve a brick of aluminum into a case? How would that in any way be more cost effective than cutting it out of sheets or whatever the normal method is? This seems highly unlikely.
Well if they can control the depth of the cut, it's a big deal from a manufacturing stand point.
Billet is pretty tough stuff compared to stamped pieces. They won't need to make dies for stamping. Shavings can be recycled. Prototype cases can be changed on the fly (because there's no more need for dies). It's all automated start to finish.
With the right set up, no human hand would ever touch the hardware.
Just a block of aluminum and components coming in and a completely boxed product going out, extending across the the entire line.

My MBP battery is starting to get wonky. Sometimes it lasts for 2.5 hours, sometimes it'll drop from a full charge to 5% in 30 minutes.
Same here, dude. I can post from my iPhone in my car, on the toilet, from the couch, during work meetings, at the bar... It's sick, really.
mine seems pretty on-par
pretty popular on newegg and lots of macbook owners, and only 33 bucks
things are a LOT more peppy
no more waiting for five minutes for bootup to be done loading adium, netnewswire, itunes, coversutra, mail, and firefox

Why the frown? More RAM = more happy

Insert CD -> Open Finder -> Drag and drop -> "Burn Disk"
and its part of the core OS. It also mountso DMG and ISO files, making the need to burn for personal use moot.
