So believe it or not, people make music outside of North America! I know, it's madness. They even are influenced by foreign devils.
WORLD MUSIC is a blanket term for music that comes from parts of the world that aren't North American or European, I guess. WORLD MUSIC can be anything from African choirs to some dudes in Russia rapping. Still don't know what I'm talking about? Vladivostok FM in GTA4 is a good example, where all the songs are in russian and ukranian. Gogol Bordello, while based in America is a very good example of WORLD MUSIC.
There's this cool show here where they take popular NZ tunes around the world and get them redone by artists from other counrties.

Okay, some of those later ones might be reaching a little. But essentially I'm saying you're full of shit.
A lot of NZ music stands up bloody well compared to the junk that gets shovelled into your audio receptors via mass market appeal and heavy airplay around american top 40s. Before you actually start spouting your poorly formed opinion about the quality of the domestic output, why don't you actually, I don't know, actually go out and investigate the depths of the NZ music scene?

I do agree that overall our popular music is a bit better than american top40 stuff, but that's like saying which kind of shit is tastier. I utterly despise dub and the dunedin sound (which is fantastic, living here and all). I also like how you assume that I haven't listened to any non-pop NZ music. Oh, slipping tongue are fairly awesome, too. Many bands and artists rely far too much on people thinking that you should support NZ artists purely because they're from new zealand, but if you give people money for making stuff that you don't like, more people are just going to start doing the same.

Yeah, they were much better before they sold out and made a record. They were one of the best sounding up-and-coming rock acts in New Zealand, then they went and got a producer who went and made them sound all pop and radio-friendly.
I saw them at the World Series Concert about 6 months before they released, and man, they blew everyone away. They were a great live act, but in recent years they've toned back to sound more like their singles. But if you saw they way they used to throw down tracks like 'Benjamins' at BDO 03, you wouldn't be so dismissive.
So, my argument stands that you suck the sewerage they feed you through a tube and spout it in kind.
If they became successful from that kind of crap, doesn't that say something about the music industry? Also if you clicked my sig you would realise that I am far from "sucking the sewerage they feed me through a tube"

Noted and argument withdrawn. Although I can also see from your tastes that yes, the typical Kiwi Rock sound would do little to appeal to your taste. That doesn't make it crap, just not personally appealing for you. It has no bearing on whether or not the music and the sound we are producing as a whole is good or not.
I mean, I might not like the body of work of Christina Aguilera, but that doesn't stop me from noting the fact that she's got a set of pipes that can hit a high C with enough power to blow my pants off at twenty paces.

No, not really. It says something about the people who buy their albums, but nothing about anyone else in the industry.
