Wii questions

So I finally got the wife to let me get a current generation video game system. I went with the Wii for the hopes that she would enjoy it also. The wife loves it, and she hates video games. So that is a huge plus. I was hoping some of you would be able to help with a few questions.

1.) She loves Wii sports, and we enjoy it together. Is there any non-active (standing up swinging around your arm type games) that do not have a huge advantage for a gamer vs non-gamer person? We get into that game, but honestly can't play it for hours on end... we get tired. (I have Brawl but destroy her at it, and she doesn't want a learning curve, and I want to stop losing on purpose just to keep her interested).

2.) Is it worth getting the component video cable? I have a HD TV (LG 37' 720p) so going to 480p can be done, but is there really a difference in the video quality?

3.) This is more of a comment than a question, but if you have a wife/girl friend you want to get involved with gaming I can not speak highly enough of the Wii. I was working on Saturday afternoon and the wife played by her self for 9.5 hours. She loves Boom Blox, Wii Sports, and Mario and Sonic at the Olympics. Get one of these.

Cheese is great.

    1) Give Mario Kart a try.

    2) Yes. A thousand times yes.

edit: if you don't want to spend $40 on some cables (understandable), buy the $7 set from Monoprice. They work just fine.

Mario Party might be fun, the gamer has a slight advantage over the non gamer at some of the twitchier minigames but otherwise it's pretty good. I'd recommend it only if you can rope in two other people, though, it's not as great vs. the AI.

Mario Galaxy is good fun, too, it lacks true co-op but the second player controls the pointer and can collect star bits and shoot them at enemies and just generally help out whoever's actually playing. Being player 2 is nice and relaxing, and it's more involved than just watching someone play. Who knows, your wife might like being player 1 and actually controlling Mario, too.

best coop game for the wii (that doesnt involve standing and swinging) hmm....

try lego starwars if you havent played it yet. its fun and you both control a character. if you dont like starwars you could try lego indiana jones instead

mario kart is ok, but it can get frustrating as your lead can instantly evaporate by random item chains.

there are some games that seem to require moving around alot but really only require a flick of the wrist in wii sports. wii play also has a few of these games. off the top of my head bowling and baseball can be done while sitting.

You technically dont need to stand up or swing anything at all really to play wii as well as anyone else. You could play tennis sitting in a chair just flicking your wrist. Also the wii was pretty much designed to bridge the gap between gamers and first-timers so there are tons of games out there a 5 year old can play just as well as a gamer can for wii.

I'm enjoying the hell out of Boom Blox with my wife. And it easily fits your defenition of a game that would not reward a more avid videogame player.
