Hi! first, I know I fail at being a girlfriend because I have less than a week before his birthday (it's next monday) and still don't know what to do. Mainly because I want to give him something really cool, and just giving him a game would be boring. So a little bit of description
He is turning 23, he likes fantasy book and sci-fi (if it looks awful, he'll decide he NEEDS to read it and will probably love it. for strange reason like "but its pirate! in space! there is a goblin on the cover! look!) I think is favorite author is George R.R. Martin, but he also talks about Elizabeth Moon, Anne McAfree. I introduced him to Terry Pratchett and he really liked it. He likes playing magic and all kind of card game I don't understand. he is kinda obsessed with everything about WWI and WWII. He also likes zombie and gory things, and love making plans with his brother for when there is an apocalypse (think survival plan) oh and porn. it's kinda like a hobby for him I was thinking of giving him something like "the Zombie survival guide" or something like that if I don't find something better
If you're going for the zombie survival guide but want a book a little more substantial you might look at World War Z. Or maybe you could pair 'em up together?

You should look into the movie Horrors of War. I have not seen it yet, but it is in my queue. I have heard it is awesome. It's a gory horror movie about WWII with werewolves and possibly zombies created by the Nazis.
Look into Harry Turtledove for WW2. He did a worldwar series thats interesting (I'm reading it right now).
He's actually done a couple. There's another series he has that is WW2 in a fantasy setting (dragons instead of fighters/bombers, leviathans instead of subs, etc). I believe the first book is called "Into the Darkness"
Well. is that zombie stripper movie out yet?? and I don't think there's zombie porn. we watched a vampire hunter porn with ghouls in it once but that's pretty much it :P
I'll start looking into your suggestion and see what would be worthy of his birthday. so far I'm thinking of picking a couple of things for monday and pre-ordering that survival deck
oh and Harry Turtledove seems to fit in his interest, thanks I'll try to find more about it
Oh rad, I didn't know the Zombie Survival Guide came in flashcards.
Not sure as to how many of these suggestions you'll end up going with, but I wanted to second World War Z as being excellent and the audiobook is also great.
It's abridged, but it's read by a full cast and there are some pretty well known (in nerdier circles, I guess) actors/actresses doing voices. Mark Hamill, Alan Alda, Henry Rollins, et al.

There most certainly is zombie porn. I have seen it. I'm not sure if there's any on dvd, but there most likely is. There are websites for it, though.
The first three volumes of The Walking Dead come in very nice hardcover books. Its an awesome zombie series, and each volume is only 24.95, which isnt bad for how nice theyre packaged and how great the story is.

I didn't even know what the fuck and avitar was until about 5 minutes ago.
If he likes Terry Prachett and hasn't read it, Good Omens (jointly written by Prachett and Neil Gaiman) is absolutely terrific, imp easily in the top 5% of Prachett's work.
You could pick up a copy of Dead Rising for the 360 on the cheap if he doesn't have it - pretty good zombie game.
I always feel awful for not finding these threads sooner and suggesting (nay, insisting upon) The Name of the Wind, but lately I've taken a philosophical view and decided that in 20 years when it's considered a classic like The Lord of the Rings (only not boring) everyone will get around to reading it.
Great book. Never saw the movie. The book is written more like a documentary/story than a novel. I absolutely loved it. There's a few more by the same author. The author is actually the son of one of the Iwo Jima flag raisers (that famous picture on the cover).
I need to check with his father for pretty much all the books (I looked and he already owns a lot of Harry Turtledove) but so far I'm going with world war Z, the zombie survival flashcard, and currently looking for a game we could play together (Last Night on Earth: The Zombie Game looks great, I'll try to find it somewhere around here)
so the thread is pretty much resolved, but feel free to suggest more!

There's a tile game called zombies (if I remember correctly), where you play a survivor trying to get to a helicopter. No need for a game master (and you can play with just two if you want). The original game uses city tiles, and there's a few expansions like a shopping mall and a military base.

I second this suggestion. If he likes Zombies and hasn't read either of them (and he'd probably mention if he had), these would probably be very big hits.
Also, Fables is a lot of fun, as are Preacher and Y: The Last Man, if you think he'd be into any of them (maybe wikipedia the basic ideas and/or skim the first issue of each if there's a comic store nearby?)

If he likes zombie preparedness, you should help him pick out a Bug Out Bag. It's just a bag of any design to carry all of your essentials should you need to get the hell out in a hurry. Can be useful for fires, storms, hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes. Everyone preparing for zombies needs to have one.

What's that Zombie Survivalist forum, where people talk about their insane caches of automatic rifles and MREs that they have buried under the pond out back, alongside the trigger for the pop-up barbed wire electrified fence?

I'm surprised no one's suggested a few Penny Arcade strip prints featuring zombies- like the series that parodied Dead Rising a few years back.
As far as books, well... I think he'd enjoy some Joel Rosenberg, actually. The "Guardians of the Flame" series is one of my favorite ways to kill an afternoon. The only problem is the first few books are damn near impossible to find.
I'd also suggest some David Eddings- no matter whatever I read, I try to make a point to read one of his books every few weeks. Ignore his new stuff and pick up a set of the Belgariad and the Mallorean. Sure, it's ten books, but it's good quality literature.
For cards, you might just go to his local card shop and buy him a booster box of the newest set. It'll run you about $120, though.

Depending on how much or little you want to spend, you could make him an end of the world survival kit.
- Throw in the zombie survival quide
- A sci-fi book he'll enjoy to pass the time
- Spam and peanut butter or the like
- A little card game like Zombies (both for defense training and entertainment)
- A porn mag (hey a guy has needs and the wimmen might be dead!)
- A picture of the two of you
(But I have to say, World War Z was the best book I read last year, so I'd throw my hat behind that recommendation, too.)

Not that books 4+ are bad, but stack 'em all up and it's kind of intimidating. Best to start small.
Edit: Erikson is like George R. R. Martin but he actually writes books for a living.

basically its the napoleonic wars but if dragons existed

I also third or fourth or whatever World War Z.
Or, if you want something you both can do, how about....this? (No, really it's worksafe!)
I'd keel over in ecstasy if my wife brought me home something like that as a gift.

I can has cheezburger, yes?
Try the World at War series, by Harry Turtledove. First book is Into the Darkness.
It is, essentially, WWII with dragons.
