NYC pax thread

Anyone from New York City heading to PAX? If so, shout out (especially if you found a good air fare, I'm still looking) and let's try and meet up for drinks, gaming or at least form our own sub-group on one of the many pub crawls getting started.

Cheers, r.

Well technically, since you simply agreed, and did not offer up (or second) the idea, I think he can get away with it.

Wasn't there going to be an east coast PAX this year or the next? Or was I imaging that?

I picked up a round trip direct Delta Flight from JFK for $550.

CCST looks like a lot of fun, but being the "best fare" in this economic stress, you will lose money if you arn't driving a hybrid. And out here in the east coast, hybrids are rare.

Haha, that's funny. Especially considering that I'll be driving an SUV and only spending $250 round trip.

And no, it's not a hybrid.

I'll be driving a 1991 Dodge B-350 Van that gets 14 mpg... and I'll be spending $220 round trip.

(Yes, I know the point was made already, but I just wanted to drive it home.... In the carpool lane.)

Don't forget to add depreciation to the value of your vehicle, insurance, miles, wear and tear, and time.

those, with the exception of time, all happen anyway, and 5,000 miles doesn't do as much damage as you imagine it does

It's all highway miles, yo. And the time happens as well . . . being in a car with a bunch of people going to a gaming convention, is a great chance to, well . . .play games! :-D

Um... it's a van that I bought for $800. How much more depreciation of value can I get?

And you have to pay for insurance all the time, not just when you leave town. It doesn't go up when you leave town.

Yeah, of all the arguments to make against driving, those aren't the ones.

The main one is, of course, the sheer time involved. For the folks who do it (I'm not one of them, mind you, I'm flying) it's also about the experience.

Doing everything extremely late, buying the plane tickets when I find a room. Hopefully by end of this week and hopefully something out of newark.

Video game party sounds sweet though ;[

Nice, I'm taking a way too expensive Jet Blue flight on Wednesday, coming back Monday. Fortunately I'm freelancing at the moment so I can be flexible with my dates. Maybe we should tag along with one of the already organized pub crawls?

fyi: I'm Park Slope Brooklyn based seeing how we're getting all geographical specific

That sounds good. We want to participate in the pub crawl too. All of us in this thread can try to meet there. How will we identify each other?!

Pins, or is it too late to get those?

We could get "I heart New York" t-shirts from Canal street! (kidding, can't do it, not even in hipster irony)

What are these pins you speak of? This is my first PAX so I have no idea what to expect...

I think it's now too late to pick them up, but it's not too late to register for the pre-pax dinner!

I'm from Connecticut, but I'll be flying out of NYC after transferring from Hartford. I could have just gotten a direct flight from New York, but I avoid driving to JFK whenever possible. I’m also leaving early on Friday morning because I couldn’t get out of work on Thursday. Stupid employment.

As this is my first PAX so I'm not really sure how to find anyone... Maybe I'll PM you guys my mobile number and when we all get ourselves settled out there we can text each other and see if we want to meet up?
