Hey there everybody. I just signed up and I had a particular question. I have a pretty good idea of what I'm going to do during the convention (game orgy or, gorgy, if you will) but what about outside of the convention? As a Detroiter going solo, I think maybe I need some help. If I can get some suggestions, I'll be a happy camper.
1. Clothes. I know the convention is going to be all hot and sweaty but what about regular sight seeing? Does Seattle get all hot and sweaty like Detroit does during the summer, or is it cool enough to not need special consideration? In other words can I bring slacks or are shorts a mandatory?
2. Sight seeing. What are the places that I MUST hit while I'm in Seattle. My brother told me about the Sci Fi museum, which I might want to hit up, but other than that where else should I go? Any cool comedy clubs or theaters?
3. Eats. Does Seattle have any "must eats" I HAVE to experience? Since I'm solo, price won't be as much an issue. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
4. Any other suggestions.
I'm staying at the Hilton by the airport and I have a rental car waiting for me so I will have proper transportation. Thanks for all your help. I hope to see some great suggestions.
Just trying to escape the Midwest for a weekend.

2. Pike Place Market, Pacific Science Center
3. I don't know anything about this. I've heard there's a new place that has sushi on a conveyor belt that's really good.
4. Bathe daily. Perhaps even twice a day.
As for food, if you go to the waterfront to hit up Pike Place Market (you really, really should, btw) you can eat there, or you can go down to the original Ivar's Acres of Clams. Good seafood.
University District has excellent Greek food at the Continental, but avoid Costa's becuase they're posers. Stella's Trattoria has great Italian. Taste of India will give you some of the best chai you'll ever have AND they refill it constantly like most places refill water glasses.
Broadway has Hana for good Japanese (not as good as Bush Garden or Fuji Sushi, but the best on Broadway) and my girlfriend is convinced that Than Brothers is the best Pho in the region.
Downtown proper I'd go for Wild Ginger, and Bell Town has Minnie's which is open 24 hours and has a fairly diverse menu. Speaking of open 24 hours places, you want real Seattle you should go to Beth's Cafe in Greenwood, or if you want gourmet food 24 hours, you can go all the way south to 13 Coins in SeaTac or their Seattle location.
Fremont and Ballard offer some very good antique and vintage shops if that's of any interest.
If you need some time off outside I'd recommend Discovery Park or the Washington Park Arboretum (within which is a Japanese garden which does charge admission but it's worth it to see their koi, turtles, and Japanese maples).
Chapel bar in Capitol Hill has the best martinis in the area. I can't say much about clubs or theaters as that's not really my thing. I've been known to go to Neumo's now and then, but meh.
(All locations listed are neighborhoods in Seattle. This might make a good neighborhood reference.)
Bah! Ivar's is for foolish tourists. You want real seafood you go to Chinook's in Magnolia.
What part of the market is it in?
Also, http://www.nwtekno.org is a calendar/forum for electronica shows in the Northwest.
I really couldn't tell ya.
He wants them all to himself.
Thai tom - U district. it's a cramped shit in the wall with the best pud thai you've ever had in your life.

Oooh, aaah, etc.
But what about the pizza place under them?
I've eaten at the pizza place under the anime store the past two years and its alot better than that California Pizza...restaurant or whatever its called. Cheaper too.

I think that's it.
That is the place it took me 3 months to get the cravings for their pizza out of my system.
Hee hee hee!
I bought that game for three bucks, with only half a case, from a thrift store. May not be as quality as the first few games (the logic behind the puzzles just got worse and worse as it went on), but still had some very funny moments.
man what
What do you expect? He's Canadian.

The food isn't as good as it used to be but it's the closest spot for pho near the convention and it's still alright. You can get better stuff in Seattle proper.
Woah...
Wo-
WOAH...
You just blew my mind.
In Monkey Island 4, the Scumm Bar got turned into an insipid tourist-stop with sushi on a conveyor belt. You then get to stop it at a certain point to get a flaming dish to burn a layer of paint off a piece of art.
Stupid annoying Tiki-sushi server.
Pick up The Stranger while you are in town, it's our free local paper filled with all the going-ons at bars, concerts, etc.

There's a great little hole-in-the-wall Mexican place across the street from the Bellevue Transit Center called Ooba Tooba's. Good food and service, though the spicy mole pork tacos will leave a sphere of molten lava churning in your tummy for hours. And your poo will burn.
A 5-minute ride on the 230 bus to Kirkland will take you directly to Burgermaster, which used to be the place for Microsoft employees to grab a burger before MSFT moved to Redmond. The Times reports that Bill Gates still eats there now and again.
The Seattle Underground Tour is a Must Hit. SO VERY COOL. (http://www.undergroundtour.com/)
If you go to Seattle Center to see the Space Needle and the SF Museum, drop by the big fountain. It's really nice on sunny days, with kids running in and out of the spraying water. One of my favorite places in Seattle to just sit and relax. (http://flickr.com/search/?q=seattle%20center%20fountain&w=all&s=int)
Wild Ginger is indeed a Must Eat. Most everyone I've talked to agrees that it is Seattle's best restaurant, but it's also a very comfortable (not snooty) place to eat. (http://www.wildginger.net)
I always take visitors to the food court at the Uwajimaya Asian department store. If you time your visit right, you can get fresh hot sponge cakes from the Yummy House bakery for a dollar. And Uwajimaya's a blast. (http://www.uwajimaya.com/sea/)
While you're at Pike Place Market you can get a bag of fresh doughnuts from the Punk Rock Doughnut guy, pierogis from some formidable Russian women, and visit the first-ever Starbucks with the original, unexpurgated mermaid sign.
If you dig planes, you could take the Boeing Plant tour or visit the Museum of Flight.
Sadly, the Microsoft Visitor Center is closed on weekends.
