If they haven't done any of the Hellfire quests just grab all the mail with spell damage on it and the spell damage shield from quests, you'll be exploding stuff in no time. I may have some screenshots lying around of when I leveled my Orc Shaman...

That works...unless the mob attacks so fast it keeps pushing back the spell or has an interrupt or knockback of some sort. :|

I think they've done a few of the Hellfire quests. I've got about 12 quests to do in Thrallmar, so getting some gear shouldn't be too hard. Apparently this server has 7 guilds in SWP which is all like "WFT?" to me since my main's server has 1 guild in there, both sides.

There are no mobs that attack so fast that you cannot cast a spell and they are also usually one, maybe two lightning bolts away from dying by the time they get to you. Interrupts also aren't a problem because mob interrupts are on a long cooldown and you just wait. I literally never had a problem with it leveling up.

The dual wielding type mobs can be very annoying with spell pushback and occasionally you run into a mob that kicks, knocks you in the air, etc. It gets really irritating when they do both. I've found it easier to just shock them and poke them a couple times with melee/flametongue to finish them off. /shrug

It's not a big deal in Azeroth but you'll run into nuisance mobs like that in Outlands now and then. Ogres especially. Fuckers.

I think this is from an old version of Lightning Overload (currently, the second bolt you get only does half damage, but thankfully now also causes no threat). Looks like what happened was that he popped Elemental Mastery, procced Lightning Overload and got a double crit, then his next Lightning Bolt procced Lightning Overload and got a double crit again.

Mixed Hate/Hope: We down Brut and now have a flood of new applicants. (Like 17 in the last 2 days) While it's irritating that many of them are just looking to get a boarding pass to the loot train before Wrath, I know we'll need them in the coming months. And oh hey, a couple of the folks that WoW quit are now interested in raiding again all of a sudden. Well that's quite a coincidence that their RL issues just cleared up.

Ugh the endless cycle of Recruit -> Gear -> Polish -> "lol sorry guys RL bye!" rolls on.

Actually, I shouldn't be that bitter. One of the BT guilds on the server quit raiding, and mmmm, maybe 30% of the apps are from there. Those folks I shall remain cautiously optimistic about.

Random happiness: Finally settled on Lock/Priest for my Horde RAF pair, dual boxing casters is about a billion times easier than melee. I shall finally have my Horde Priest that I planned on rolling like... When TBC went live.

Hope: That the ED economy is as broken as the DI one, and I can make mountains of gold off Herbs/Leather.

Yeah, we've had that happen too recently. Actually, it's something like a sunwell guild broke up, which we've gotten a handful of members, as well as two BT guilds, which we've gotten a dozen members from.

It's nice being able to pick and choose our apps (and we're only a BT guild!)

Speaking from experience, this isn't an entirely rare situation:

A: yes, a lot of people in this game are 'bad', or innattentive, or bored, or just riding the coattails of others for whatever reason.

B: the lower level or undergeared person often knows that they're undergeared or lower than the other dps, and as such, they try harder. The player that's expected to be on top might afk more, or just be throwing out token damage while browsing/trolling forums, wanking it to porn, watching a movie, or god knows what else.

I once outdamaged a mage in Mechanar wearing full spellfire/spellstrike/spellwhatever + karazhan and above epics, while the only epics I had on were the bop spellcloth stuff. Most of my gear was blues and some of it was greens, but I was just dedicated to not being shown up by another mage on the same run, and funny enough, I wasn't.

Happiness: I had switched to protection because I logged in and was asked to Tank a Shadow Lab run, I had thought at the time that it might have been the start of me tanking occasional instance runs, but two of the people involved in it decided they wanted to level up a pair of lowbie alts so I switched back to MS/Fury and floated into a BG. It can be wonderful to trinket out skillcoil and then intercept into the Warlock because it figured I would be busy for a few seconds.

I was floored when I found out that spell hit is to casters (dps that is) as Hit is to Rogues (and other physical dps).

And then my dps on my shadow priest, warlock and mage went way up as I swapped a few gems and dug out or did the quest for the 22 spell hit trinket in Terokar.

Most of them are sitting around 100+ now, which isn't amazing, but it's a hell of a lot better than I had at the time.

It's really a pseudo-cap, I mean...unless you will never ever ever do raids, or Kara, do people even bother to gear to 202 anymore for Kara? For farming and/or other things not involving bosses, I think 75 spell hit rating is fine.

I used to raid with a fire lock awhile back, who insisted that having 12 spell hit was not a hinderance as his crits made up for any damage he missed from normal hits. What's sad is that a lot of people actually bought that as truth.

That's what you get for upgrading your pants. You get gear, skull of gul'dan goes to an arcane mage, it's like some sort of law.

I would still have been on cooldown even without the pants, and he had priority on anything he wanted, not having won anything for something like 20+ raids. What did kill me was when I wasn't able to roll on Sunfire Robes because goddamn Slippers of the Sea-caller had dropped a day earlier, and two weeks or so before I would replace them with tier 6 boots. Oh well.

OH GOD WHAT THE FUCK SO MANY BUTTONS D:D:

Guys, how do I play an elemental shammy? Seriously, I just spent the last hour clicking random buttons and hoping that the boars would die.

Wait, you think a SHAMAN has too many buttons? My standard "stack of three bars" UI is barely half full on my shaman, and only one of the hidden side bars has anything on it (mount macro that I have hotkeyed, rez, cooking UI, weapon buffs I never use). Compared to my lock or paladin who have five entire bars full of buttons.

My main advice for elemental is remember that you have no spell pushback resistance, that you are squishy, and thus that kiting is your friend. When I try to just stand there and take it when a mob is beating on me, I get rocked. But once talents allow for the lower cooldown on frost shock and lower the cast time of your lightning bolts, you can kite and kill anything pretty effectively. Or if necessary just use frost shock. Plus there's earthbind and stoneclaw (never underestimate the awesomeness of stoneclaw!) totems. All together you can get out of some tricky situations even without any sort of effective stun or CC abilities.

Yeah I ended up holding on to the caster shield you get from one of the first HFP quests and wearing that to solo instead of using one of the nice caster staves you get around the same time. Often I have my boyfriend's ravager to tank things for me but when I don't, oh god the pain.
