When to arrive for a midnight showing of Dark Knight on Thursday

Dark Knight opens nationwide in less than 24 hours, and I have tickets to see the film when that happens. The only problem is, I don't know when to show up if I want to guarantee tolerable seats.

The theater itself is at Boston Common, so I imagine the theater will be packed in spite of public transportation closing at around midnight. Given this, should I come in several hours in advance, or would that be overkill?

For our local IMAX screening yesterday my friends and I showed up about 4 hours early and were able to get nice seats.

Probably the best thing to do would be to go down to the theatre a few hours early and check if there is already a line.

Yeah, I thought this was already out? It's been out in Australia for a day or so.

I second going a few hours early to check.

edit: or ring the cinema instead of going to check?

I got to go to an early WB hosted screening, otherwise Australia got(gets) it two days before the U.S.

My friends and I are heading over to the theater around 8:15.

Best bet if you can is just to scope out the line pretty early and if there's no one there go off and do something for a little while before checking it out again.

i'm gonna see this over at the Somerville theater tonight. hi5.

although i'd expect the crowds to be much larger downtown. i'd honestly show up 45min to a full hour ahead. the Boston Common theater gets crazy on normal Thursday nights to begin with.

I'd get there at like...9. Later than that the line is going to start backing up past the escalator, and you really don't want to be there.

I thought about the midnight showing, but Boston Common will just be a zoo. Harry Potter and Wall-E there on their respective opening nights were bad enough.

Boston Common will be nuts. For example, I went there to see Wanted or Wall-E when it opened, not midnight, just normal showing, and both were sold out for the next 3 hours.

On a similar note, when do you guys think would be a good time to arrive to a showing in the middle of the afternoon on Friday. I'm hoping the whole 3:30 on a Friday thing will be better than a nighttime showing but I'm not sure how much better. Oddly enough I'm also going to Boston Common.

An hour so early you should be fine. I'm doing the 8:45 DLP show tomorrow night at Boston Common :winky:. Probably going like 2 hours early and bringing a PSP and a movie.

Could we just edit the thread title to "when to see movies at Boston Common?" :D
