So I think I found the problem with drakes spawning in Palmia. One of the adventurers was carrying around a rod of monster summon, he must've just been casting everywhere!
How does investing in shopkeepers work, anyways? I've handed a couple of them thousands of gold, but... then what? They take my money, thank me, and then nothing happens.

They'll get better stock after a bit, and also more money, I think.
I really like the game but I don't think I can play anymore for now. Why? Because there's no way to dodge magic beams. So hounds, bishops, goblin shamans, all of that crap completely kills me before I can do anything to it. They show up in every dungeon and almost every hunting mission now. I just can't put up with dying to something I can't even get away from.
Resistances and hitpoints. Look for armor that adds 3 or more hashmarks to things like fire, dark, cold, and lightning -- these are the most common forms of undodgeable damage. It'll help a lot.
The fact of it, though, is that you're not gonna be able to resist everything. My character is level 40 and has no resistance to poison or nerve breath attacks, but these hound types still aren't a problem. You need dunkin' donuts of hitpoints. Work your constitution up with skills like Mining, gain a few levels to boost the level multiplier of hitpoints higher, and you should be fine in short order.
Additionally, for things like hounds, play the line-of-sight game with them. Don't give them several squares of open terrain to breathe all over you. Baptists are a little tougher because they blink, but try to keep to corridors with a maximum of corners to hide behind and you should be able to one-shot them if you've got a hard-hitting melee weapon.
A tangential note -- it appears having "Superb #####+" resistance to an element prevents it from destroying your stuff. Fire can't even touch my equipment and does nothing to me -- I have fireproof blankets, but I get no messages about them protecting my things and they don't lose charges.
Pumpkins are annoying for their ability to see you from faaaaaaaar away and fling all kinds of crazy drinks at you...
... except that the first "pumpkin" I killed in Lesmias the game said was a "puppy". All other "pumpkins" have been labelled as "pumpkins".
Hey guys does killing stuff with a cold weapon destroy their drops too?
Not sure if it would work the same way with a cold weapon, but my fire scimitar seems to destroy items on the enemy sometimes. Pretty much when fighting, a little message pops up saying "The cloak/ring/armor/whatever that Warrior of Elea has equip turned to ash."
Doesn't mean it was meant to drop, but it still kills an item off that they were using.

I think it's more that they can turn invisible.
Though I smile when they fling potions of Hero at me.
I'd like to try this but the controls are really retarded for me. Anyone here with a Merc gaming keyboard having problems with the numpad? The keys are all screwed up. 8 makes me move up and left, for example.

I just read that you could exchange medals for a Sage's helm which have the abilty to see invisibility.

i have like 20 medals... where do i exchange them?
also, i always seem to get caught in the damned wind on the outermap, how do i reverse the wind disease? i have some awful ass effects going on.. so far, i suck all charges out of rods i pick up, and i have -25 to DV but +11 to dmg.
i started a marksman fellow, and not too far in, i got quite lucky! i was in town and <shena> the Draw was randomly murdered. she dropped a ledgendary claymore, and armor! W00T for me!
I dl'd the new 1.14 and when I start it it just hangs there... I tried to follow the link for the fix but it autojumps me to a site where it's all in japanese and I'm at a total loss there. Any ideas?
Edit: Nevermind, I installed to a new directory and it works, just moving my saves over now.
Yeah, Blackjack does not produce good things other than potions of cure corruption. I think the 5 and 20 chip options are a scam, honestly. I've won repeatedly at 20 and gotten a single (Great) item out of it. It's garbage. I *have* won Miracle items, but only rarely and when I've done 1 chip games.
Just drop 1 on it, go for potions of cure corruption, that's it.
Stat potential increases require potions of potential, one of the rarest potions in the game. Rank 130+ magic shops very infrequently stock one for about 40K, and Larna has bunches for sale if you happen to have 2-4 million gold per (depending on your negotiation).
There's a few other ways to raise potential, such as with the guild trainer who visits your house monthly if you have a maid and are a member of a guild, but not very many.
Stat potential, like other potentials, is really just the cap for growth. If a potential is "bad", it means you won't see much more growth in that stat. It'll grow, but very slowly.

What was the fix? that sounds like the same problem I'm having. 1.14 starts up, and then sits there not responding at a black screen.
i've been having some problems myself getting 1.14 to work.
i'm on a shitty work comp so that may be to the problem, but every time i load up 1.14, it uses 99% of my cpu and does nothing.
the fix also seems to be taken down atm. if you go to the link, it gives a page that (i assume since i can't read japanese) says the file doesn't exist and then it redirects you to the hosting company's main page.
i had downloaded the fix back when it was first linked from a website that was linked by this forum a bit back and it never fixed this error either.
i guess this just means that i continue to use 1.13 until i get home.

that's good I suppose...
it's a missile weapon? WTF?

Fully investigate it.
Yes, it's a panty that prevents you from being pregnant. Shame sex with non-aliens requires underwear to be removed!

As one of the few scrolls I actually collect and use? No.

How so? You can get them as a pet too...

I lost one in the puppy cave and now I can't find one.

They seem to shy away from combat... and almost never breath elements...
lame.
I may be wrong on this, but it seems that cold damage only destroys potions while fire destroys other drops.
Yeah... really fucking great.
It was raw.
I ate it.

So if you have bad potential, you have a low chance of having that stat go up after you get a skill up a point.
