True, I just don't see Batman working anywhere near as well in a fantastic setting than he does in a real-world environment.

As for the Alex Ross pic, it shows age in the lines in his cheeks and around his mouth. He could pass for 35-50 or so. Any younger, though would be difficult with that face.

Supes, Bats, and Shazam are all older, but they are all iconic figures of manhood by now. I just can't see that in a skinny guy in his late 20s/early 30s.

He doesn't make Flash or Hal old looking though. They also don't have the associated masculinity to their characters.

I don't know if any of you have seen 10 Things I Hate About You (haven't seen it in so long) but there's a scene where Heath's character Patrick and Kat (Julia Stiles) are arguing as usual, and he says 'Oooh! It looks like someone's got their panties in a twist,' I'm telling you, I hear a little Joker in his voice. Which is interesting, because he is using his natural Australian accent in the film.

I wouldn't want to see some broad commanding plants in a batman movie or see supes fly around.

what the fuck kind of superman movie do you want to see, then? "Kal-El and the IRS Double-Check Their Numbers"?

Yeah, but how can a normal human being be constantly thrashing people with guns and never get shot ? I know it's a comic book, but in real life people can't dodge bullets. Seems like all the comic book bad guys go to Bad Guy Shooting School. The Punisher is ridiculously guilty of this. That man is in shit tons of firefights, only occasionally being shot, and never a serious crippling injury.

I'd love to see a series of real life versions of comic book heroes.

Yeah, he does get shot and otherwise scuffed up. But he always comes out good as new. Like, the "In the Beginning" arc. He gets a rib blown out. That surely would result in some debilitating injury.

The reason why they never do this is because it makes a shit story.

Y'know, that'd be a fucking awesome twist in RIP.

Batman sorts his head out, stops jabbering on about Zurr-En-Ah, defeats the Black Glove, everything is fine and hunky dory He goes out on his normal patrol and gets shot in the face by some random mugger.

    Yes.

I heard this suggested a lot back when Joe Chill was just the alias of some random, unknown mugger, and loved the idea back then.

But for some reason, now that Joe Chill has been fleshed out as an actual character, I don't like the idea as much. Without the Waynes' random death by a random schmuck acting as a mirror to Batman's only random, pointless death, I don't think it'd resonate as well.

All this talk of Batman's death, in conjunction with Batman RIP going on right now, reminds me of the "Death of Batman" anthology that DC was going to do a few years ago, before it was nixed by some higher-up. Here's the last page to Kevin Maguire's entry.

    For example.....
There's nothing wrong with the human body, but having some laser blasters built into our eyeballs would make us better.
