No, the Athlon 64 is simply a hot running chip.

This is with a nice airflow with one 60mm and one 120mm intake and two 60mm outtakes, in addition to the gigantic cooling fan on the CPU itself. This thing won't overheat on anything but DOW.
Fiyarn already said he has your chip and his computer runs DOW fine.
So since we know it isnt fundementally incompatible, so that sort of makes me think his rig must be cooled better than yours, or better dusted or something.
Not this morning was I playing TF2, settings completely maxed, for about an hour and a half. A full hour, plus one half hour. That comes to a total of around Ninety Minutes. Now, TF2 is a rather graphics and CPU intensive game. The CPU did not overheat.
I also played an hour game of Supreme Commander, not maxed, but far more CPU intensive than TF2, no? Okay. The CPU did not overheat. My computer did not die mid-game.
Crysis didn't overheat my CPU. This overheating behavior is limited to DOW and DOW only.
Also, on the new CPU front: My mobo died within the last 6 months. I need to wait before I can re-validate XP.

So I just got Dawn of War + Winter Assault in a strategy pack with some other games. I know I will be quite busy with the single player for a while, but after I am done does anybody still play with only winter assault or do I need to get the newer expansions for multiplayer ?
Sorry to be the one to inform you Astns but the thread is dead. It always happens, sooner or later. Enough people burn out on the game that the game on thread perishes until the next time a large enough group of people get the itch to play.
Though hopefully next time will be soon and it will be with the DoW2 beta.
so, I just picked up the DoW Platinum Edition (everything but SoulStorm) and I am eager to try out multiplayer. do I need SS in order to play with you guys, or would I just not be able to use the new races online?

if anybody is on late at night EST I'll play, it appears there is at least 2-4 people that still want to play. I always just have bad timing, or think about playing something all day at work and by the time I get home I'm too worn out to do it.

Of course i've never played against a human player in DoW before, I always just did "Hold the Line" scenarios with a couple buds against insane bots
Chances are that playing against the AI has given you a lot of bad habits. But the only way to fix that is to play against other people.
Me especially, because they nerfed my undead war machine >.>
