No, I'm not calling out the forumer.

This thread is about Fallout like this:
fallout-ip-bethesda-1.jpg

f2box300.jpg

00035_Fallout_Tactics.jpg

So to this day I haven't played an rpg that I enjoyed as much as Fallout 1 and 2 Fallout Tactics was okay and we're going to go ahead and forget that "Brotherhood of Steel" game for Playstation ever existed.

So now, 9 years after the last true installment of the series and 5 years after the Black Isle development team was laid off - and the Van Buren project (the tentative Fallout 3) was declared defunct - why am I starting this thread?

Oh I think you know.

Bethesda, the company that has brought us the Elder Scrolls games, purchased the rights to Fallout 3 so many years ago, and began developing Fallout 3 from scratch, using no pieces of the Van Buren project at all. Last year, having honestly given up hope of actually seeing a Fallout 3 due to the length of time since anytyhing worth while came out for the series and waning interest in the franchise, I came across this and promptly shit my pants:

Fallout 3 teaser

People complained that the graphics in that teaser looked shitty, etc. etc., but true fans of the games cared not and interest was reborn. I personally have played through both Fallout 1 and 2 at least once each just since seeing that teaser.

Earlier this month, Bethesda released this baby:

Fallout 3 trailer

So that pretty much looks incredible and that scene at the end with the main character walking with Dogmeat makes me want to flip out. What do you guys think? Who else is a crazed fan for these games?
Fallout-3-e32k6-poster.jpg

Update: Oh also, here is a gameplay footage video from E3, looks pretty awesome:

gameplay

Update 2: Another sweet gameplay video here: http://www.gamevideos.com/video/id/20175

Update 3: Here is a series of videos that are essentially the exact same demo that was given at Pax, for those of you who couldn't make it.

Part 1
Part 2
(Everyone's comment at pax when the sheriff says "Fuckin' end ya" was "Fuck a ninja?!")

I've been playing Fallout 2 for the first time ever

Am I screwed for losing Sulik early on? I won that big fight with the people who live underground near Modoc, but I guess he died during the fight since I haven't seen him since. Should I start the game over entirely or can I get new party members?

Right now it's just Vic and me, and he's a fat tub of fucking lard.

Dude, fuck Sulik. If you have high enough charisma/speech you can marry the daughter of the guy who owns the slaughterhouse in Modoc. Then you can pimp her out for extra cash later, but if you want a good fighter, go to Vault City and get Cassidy. Also, go to Broken Hills and get Marcus.

I've got the bobblehead version pre-ordered from Amazon, but not the pip-boy version.

Fandyien: There are other people you can pick up - depends on how much of a party-heavy game you're playing. I usually played a guy with 8-10 charisma, so I had room for 4-5 people in my party.

If you can handle combat on your own then don't worry too much about it.

    Thanks.

I'm actually playing a character with low charisma, but high strength/perception/agility. Vic and I have been able to handle most combat thus far (though clearing the irradiated village has proven to be a challenge). Right now I'm focussing on getting metal armor and some decent shotguns, since I'm still using pretty shitty weapons.

My question is, can I get Cassidy/Marcus/whatever with a CHA of like 7 or 8? I can't remember exactly what my CHA is, but it's not particularly good.

Fallout 3 looks fucking rad and whoever says "Oblivion with Guns" is a fucking idiot.

I don't expect Bethesda to make a perfect replica of the Fallout setting as it was in Fallout 1 or 2, but I still think they'll do a damn fine job. Hell, Fallout 2 wasn't a perfect replica of the setting of Fallout 1, with all the injokes and shit.

Yeah. If it does, I'm not gonna buy it.

VATS system stops combat so you can pick your target.

Or you can play it like a regular shooter if you want.

I'll totally be using the VATS system, then.

I usually pump up my perception, agility, intelligence and strength, putting my luck and charisma pretty low. I almost always tag small guns, big guns and stealing. I can beat 2 in a couple hours if I'm playing for speed. I just go straight to NCR, steal a bozar, go to Navarro, get the advanced power armor and from there it's cake. I'm excited for 3 because since I know so much about the games now, I find it hard to actually play it for real anymore without doing something wacky or taking shortcuts.
