Hey guys, my parents are coming to Seattle for PAX, but theres a bump in the road. They really don't know what to do in Seattle after we finish blitzing around PAX. I think some people might say go to some bars and listen to some of the live music, but their really not interested in music. Or in gaming to be honest. They like nice beaches though.
Personally, I would suggest the international district. I find it fun to go to the area around Uwajimaya. Of course I would stop at pink godzilla

Only beaches that spring to mind are Madison Park overlooking Lake Washington and Golden Gardens overlooking the sound. I'm sure there are others though.
If you don't mind a bit of a drive Ocean Shores is a great place right on the Ocean. Lots of fun for tourists.
Oh yeah! great idea. It's about 2.5 hours drive from my place (actually thats westport, but its right across the bay from Ocean Shores.)
From Seattle its probably 3 hours.
There is also excellent shopping in Bellevue, various parks and recreation areas around the city including GasWorks Park and the Woodland Park Zoo, restaurants, tourist traps, and Canada is only 3 hours away if you take the truck route instead of the peace arch.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but parents are not allowed at PAX.
I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but people born on the same day and time as you are not allowed in PAX.
But seriously, why aren't they allowed?
Also, is there a flight to canada? Because once PAX is over I have to head back home, but my parents are probably going to Las Vegas or Canada. Problem is I don't see any major cities on the west side of Canada.

Vancouver is one of Canada's nicest cities, and it's a 3 hour drive from Seattle (or a 2 hour flight, more or less). I'm not just saying that because I live here :P Victoria is also really nice if they want to go to the island.
At first I was just going to make fun of you for missing Vancouver/Victoria on your Canada city search, but then decided to be helpful :P
I'm driving to PAX from Vancouver... last year it took us 3ish hours... depending on the Border line-up. There are tons of cool things to do and see in the Greater Vancouver Area (Vancouver is the main city, but then there a bunch of cities around it: Richmond (great for seafood), North Vancouver (great for Hiking), Kitsilano (ok, this is just a part of Vancouver, but it's great for beaches and trendy restaurants), Surrey (great for getting shot).
Depending on how long your parents want to go for... a drive up to the Okanagan is awesome and wine/fruit filled (best peaches you'll ever have are in the Okanagan).
But yeah... British Columbia (the Canadian Province just north of Seattle) has lots of great things to see and do. I love this Province and couldn't imagine living anywhere else.
Wow this thread sure went of topic. I guess its the effects of PAX coming soon.
Some good shopping places near Seattle are the Supermall in Auburn, and Southcenter/Westfield mall. If your headed to Bellevue i would have to say Bellevue Square, And theres many good restaurants near Bellevue Square.
Also, since I don't see it mentioned yet, the Seattle Art Museum is two or three blocks away from the convention center, as is Benaroya Hall, where the orchestra plays. Benaroya usually has something going on Saturday nights. There's a little boat that does cruises on the sound, too....and the typical touristy stuff, the Space Needle and whatnot.
but there are plenty of parks. They can take the west seattle bridge, and go to Alki beach. That gives you a great panoramic view of the city. Gasworks Park is cool (weird to see a bunch of crazy obsolete machinery in the middle of a park on the waterfront). Golden Gardens in Ballard is nice at night, because you can have bonfires. The Ballard Locks can be neat, if you aren't used to those sorts of things (and the salmon ladder is really neat, if they are running). Discovery Park is a big park, with lots of walking trails.
Over by Husky Stadium, they can rent a canoe, and paddle along the shallow waterways in the beautful arboeretum. The Olympic Sculpture Park (financed by Paul Allen) is kinda cool, and stretches along the waterfront of Elliot Bay. Also it's nice to walk around Greenlake.
You could send them on a Ducks tour, or Argosy cruise too. But those will cost money.

Every time that I have been down there it has been overcast, windy, and/or cold.
Just saying, it is quite a drive to be disappointed by the pot of gold.

Um... it's a beach. in Washington. What do you expect? :P
As this topic is persisting, I must say, don't waste your time with Ocean Shores. It's just a stupid casino tourist trap in the middle of nowhere (thrilling imagery eh?).
If you're going to go 100ish miles out of Seattle, see something worthwhile on the peninsula like Neah Bay. Besides scenery, you might be lucky enough to get some freshly smoked salmon there from the Natives, and let me tell you it will destroy salmon for you because you'll never get anything as good anywhere else. And I say that as a 3rd generation native who's put away many, many pounds of salmon at restaurants all over the state.
Another, closer destination would be in Labrack2401's backyard, Washington Park on Fidalgo Island, less than five miles due west of Anacortes, WA. Very nice beaches and trails there, rock formations with tidal pools, and great view of Burrows Island from the south part of the loop road.

Dude that would be a 9 hour drive from seattle at best. And the daytime border lineup, depending on where you go across ( last year I went over at the one near abbotsford) added another 2 and a half hours wait.

The last time I went to White Rock from around Seattle was only 3ish hours as well. I suggest that if it takes you 9 hours your route and timing may need serious revision.
Uh, I live in kelowna, which would be the centre of the okanagan wine valley that he's talking about. It is 4-6 hours to vancouver depending if you take the 97 or the 97c, and then somewhat under 3 hours or so to seattle via the I-5. I'm not sure how much I could revise a direct highway route to seattle :?
Kelowna = further away from seattle than whiterock

You didn't specify in your original post that you were talking only about Okanogan, which certainly would take a hell of a long time.

It was a joke. There are always parents at PAX.
