Diablo 2 Crashes

WangsaurusWangsaurus Registered User regular
So in the wake of the Diablo 3 announcement, I decided to re-install Diablo2 for a refresher. Sadly it crashes the second I leave the starter village. Now Blizzard was wonderfully un-useful with their tech help. I'm using an AMD X2 at the moment and wondering if that might be causing any problems. It's been patched up to the current patch also. Any ideas would be great. Also I ran it under different forced compatibility under Windows 98/2000 and even ME.

Thanks.

Frag them first, and let the Respawn sort them out.

What OS are you using and what brand video card?

Also, does it just shut down or does it give you an error message of some kind?

I'm using an Nvidia vid card, and it's Windows XP sp2. It causes a full computer restart after a few seconds in the game.

    Check your video drivers?
Generally those or something similarly low level is necessary to cause XP to restart from a program crash.
XP segregates programs fairly well from the OS. The processor shouldn't be a problem, I've got the same thing and it runs fine.

try running diablo in windowed mode and see if it does it then. if it does, update your drivers.

Also change it from Direct3D to whatever the other option is. I have an 8800GTS and the game was running at like 12FPS for some reason, but when I took it off D3D, it worked great.

I should really try this, I get like 5-10 fps and it pisses me off. Also lag spikes out the wazoo, and I don't know why, no other games lag (it's wireless) and any other computer I try the game on is fine. It really pisses me off
