No, searching Ghost should be enough, just go back to the lab, and you'll get a message from the Lab guy after Ghost's message plays.

Hmm. I guess that could explain why I still have the "get into the lab" marker there. Though now that I think about it, there's one thing I can think of that might be causing it (well, two, actually): Whirlygig and Vortex anomalies. Since they not only are extremily deadly but also destroy the body and anything it's holding that gets caught in it, I figure that maybe he got caught in one of those some time before I even started the task (since it's not even listed as failed or completed or whatnot) and the lack of a body is screwing the whole thing up.

As far as I understand you're technically not able to really break the main story chain, right? Even if everybody you're supposed to meet dies (as tends to happen in Hell OL) you can just nick their PDAs and follow the paper trail from one point to another. Thing is, I did all of that up until X16, but after searching Ghost's body I didn't get the task to meet with Guide like I did before. Is this some sort of bug with the latest versions of OL?

Xtarath: depending on what mods you've got and which stashes you've learned of, IIRC there's one in an electrical box in the elevator shaft near the start, like the second level down.

Thanks, I'm just playing vanilla right now. If it's not there I'll see if I can find it in the Warehouses.

Hmm. ANyone know what is/if there's a noclip-ish command for STALKER? I went back to X16 (again) but that gate is down and won't budge (never mind that it didn't drop the first time I was there, but...).

EDIT: Oh, and now it decides to go up after five minutes of futzing around with the damn thing. Disregard.

No, wait, I want to know that command anyway. Never know when I'll need it...

So, I keep getting crashes when i configure the ZRP. Should I install the ZRP THEN OL, or OL THEN ZRP? I'm thinking it's because I'm overwriting some files with OL.

I finally have some useful, possibly OP-worthy info: Whenever S.T.A.L.K.E.R. crashes, with or without an error message/popup, it copies the reason for the crash into your windows clipboard.

So if S.T.A.L.K.E.R. ever crashes for you, immediately open notepad or your favorite text editor and paste to find out why. The report looks something like this:
    Expression : fatal error
    Function      : CInifile::r_string
    File : E:\stalker\sources\trunk\xrCore\Xr_ini.cpp

    Description : <no expression>
    Arguments : Can't find variable launch_speed in [wpn_mac10]

Discovered this by accident while debugging my own mods.

After uninstalling and reinstalling video drivers do deal with similar OpenGL failures in another program, my antivirus is now declaring Stalker's executable as a trojan. I've gone from being able to run the game, to loading a black screen or declaring an error with opengl .dll's, to not having the .exe immediately declared an unhealable infection. It's a little frustrating.

It's trying to load a PDA glossary entry and not finding the entry's ID code (the "encyclopedy_mutant_zombieg_general") in the list. Either the mod was broken or another mod broke it.

You can use windows file search to help you out: unzip the original downloaded copies of all your active mods to separate folders on your desktop. Then search each folder for "encyclopedy_mutant_zombieg_general" using the box marked "A word or phrase in the file". Make sure the option "search subfolders" is checked. This will show you which file from which mod is supposed to contain the missing data.

After you find that, you can copy from the mod's file on your desktop and paste the missing lines into the same place of the same file in your S.T.A.L.K.E.R.\gamedata\whereveritwas folder. That Winmerge utility (mentioned a few pages back) might assist you if copying lines between two similar files is not a process you're familiar with.

Also, after you finish OL (like, complete the main quest line and get an ending), can you go back and continue playing? Did you do the other main quest path in the right order? I remember I skipped finding the base in the sewers and tried to go back later, but I had already broken the storyline.

I reinstalled STALKER this weekend to check out the maxed graphics. I ran to the first quest area to kill the bandits, but one came up behind me and killed me in two shots.

Noticed an oddity while modding over this weekend: In the vanilla game, before you rescue Nimble, Siddorovich sells a modified Groza 5.45, Merc Suit, or 5.45 ammo! Each has only a 10% chance of appearing in his inventory but you can manipulate the odds by saving before ever talking to him and reloading if it's not in his trade list.

After you rescue Nimble the goods for sale change to his usual stuff; the AK ammo and Groza are no longer part of the list at all. The Merc Suit is part of his regular stuff.

Since you can get a Merc Suit for free in the newbie village, it seems like it would be worth it to scrounge up the cash for the Groza, if it shows. Though not as accurate as the modified AK, it's the strongest weapon you can get until you've completed the Agroprom mission and the deadliest 5.45 weapon at short-to-medium range. It even has a built in VOG-25 grenade launcher.

The only other way to get this is to kill a guy at The Bar or hope mercs or dogs get him randomly (happened my first game, heh).

About the modding I did, spoilered for long:
I enabled all three "disabled" weapons this weekend. They are the TOZ-34 "over-under" hunting rifle, the FN Browning HP-SA (a.k.a. the Browning "Hi-Power" Mk.III) pistol, and the Ingram MAC M10 "MAC-10" submachine gun. Of the three, the Hi-Power and TOZ-34 are complete & working. They just aren't placed anywhere.

I noticed the ID code for the "Family Rifle" is "Hunter's TOZ-34", but the weapon type was set to a BM16 sawed-off, an easy fix. No wonder that mission was so confusing. The only TOZ-34 in the game would have clearly been special. I added normal TOZ-34's to the Barman's goods, since he sells shells but no shotguns and that bugged me.

The Hi-Power is ok to go, but there's no mention of it anywhere. I added and tried it out. It's ridiculously powerful, possibly even better than the modified Desert Eage. It has similar firepower and better precision, all while using common 9x19 ammo. I'm pretty sure it wasn't in the game because they had enough other pistols and its stats made it "broken".

The MAC-10 pretty much existed only in name. It was literally an obsolete version of the AK-74's weapon file with the name changed & a few numbers tweaked. Some settings are missing or set to crazy values, crashing the game. There's no MAC-10 model and it points to the wrong place for the AK's instead, which also crashes the game.

I took care of all the crash issues, the funny numbers, and even made inventory art for it. I now have four MAC-10 icons; with and without suppressors and upgrade arrows. I added two kinds to the game, one in 9x19 and the other in .45. The only thing missing now is a unique weapon model.

I finished at a very late hour, so I didn't have time to take screen captures. I'll get some tonight.

Couldn't you toss some grenades in through the window? Gunfire and explosions toss items around. I've even seen a youtube video where two grenades are used to get the decoder from outside the window. The military suit should be easier since it's larger.

When I think of a blowout, I think of a gigantic pulse or wave of radiation that just wrecks the shit out of anything that gets caught out in the open like how it was in earlier versions of OL. The new ones just seem so drawn out, and the idea of it making you bleed instead of dumping giant piles of radiation on you irks me.

    Dear Diary,

I proceeded to effortlessly kill him and all his friends and sell all their stuff to the bar.
