When you get radiation poisoning or are burned you start bleeding as bits of you drop off/are fried etc?
Bandages are cheaper?
They were drunk?
Were it me I'd do both. Radiation and bleeding.
Hell, if it was me and you were caught out in the open during a blowout I would just cut to the face melting scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark and plaster "Game Over" in big letters at the top of the screen.

Bursting into flames if you're out in the open for more than five seconds sounds about right - on top of the massive radiation dose, naturally.
This actually reminded me somehow that another thing that I dislike about the new blowouts are how slow they are. Back in 1.2, you had, like, 30 seconds to go get your ass to cover before tha radiation wave hit, and it began right at the apex of its intensity - now you've got like a full minute and then some to saunter on to wherever you're going to hole up, and the damage doesn't start until after it sounds like hell itself has manifested on earth and is causing hundred-mile winds everywhere.
So I'm trying to fight my way through the Agroprom Research Institute, and I got all the way through the second building (where you find the documents), and I was on my way back to Garbage, and thought, "gee, I could go to the other building and see about picking up some 9 mil FMJ from all the MP5-wielders (i found a badass TMP, which I love, along with my hunting rifle), and I get ambushed and killed within like 2 seconds. Forgot to save after the doc building. Fuk.
Finally to Bar, though I have decided I don't need to drive vehicles anymore. Grabbed a car outside the stalker outpost in the factory, got to the Duty checkpoint, and accidentally ran down one of them. Had to kill the rest of them to get past.

I just joined 'em myself. I should be heading to X16 tomorrow, with my Assault Rifle based off of the Vintar and good ol' chaser 13.
A question: Is the orange bad ass suits freedom doods wear the Exo's? I'd also like opinions on how good they are. Maybe to see if I should scrounge up enough cash to buy one.
Gah. I can see into the hotel room, I can see the decoder and the military suit just sitting there, so close that I can see the text...
OK, I can't use a noclip cheat or mod to get through, so how about something to increase the range at which you can grab stuff? Anyone got an idea on how to do that?
The Zone Survival Guide forgot to pay their web hosting bill this month, but they had a video showing how to drop a gun (the gauss rifle works well) into the door jamb of the hotel door and make the physics engine clip the door open. Not sure if it works for OL. You can see a couple of pictures at the end of Stolls's LP showing me successfully opening it, or just do some trial and error. You'll see it open slightly after a few tries, but it will take 30 or 40 quickloads to get it, most likely.

I just hope noone from Duty just shoots me on sight or anything.

That's neat, but I was able to 'nade the stuff out as per the suggestion from earlier. It's just too bad that the suit in there didn't live up to my expectations - did it get neutered, or did that helmetted Duty suit get boosted, or what?
Demitri: Probably, but who knows - though your dilemma does raise an interesting prospect. You know how you can grief in Battlefieldish games by driving a vehicle to ram an enemy and then bailing at the same second, and it doesn't consider it a TK? I wonder if the same principle will apply to STALKER's AI.

Well, the faction didn't appear to be pissed at me, I got through Bar fine (aside from the controller that had taken up residence), and a 'replacement' guard (who may have just been a guard at the checkpoint that wasn't around at the time of my 'accident') didn't have any hostility when i backtracked through Garbage for a quest.
I'd like to know how to turn off the dynamic anomalies. I did it through the main configuration file, but after the last blowout, they shifted again. Any ideas? I'm about to open up my save file in notepad to see what I can do.
EDIT: okay, can't find my save file. derp

I just returned to the bar from X16 and the barman is selling a Vintorez and the Minigun. Too bad I don't have any money to buy that stuff.
He also told me to head over to the Duty leader and that he'd let the guards know I was coming. I saw the place I was supposed to go to on my map, I guess letting the guards knowing I'm coming means telling them to load up and let rip on sight.
You can get a Vintorez at the Freedom camp - if you walk across the bridge, there are two bunkhouses to the left. The one further to the left has a Vintorez just sitting on the floor inside.

Now I have all the weapons I need! A shotgun, assault rifle, and sniper rifle.

Man, have fun lugging those around.
I hope Clear Sky has some reasonable "scout rifles" with a forward-mounted medium- or adjustable-range sight. Something you can use in just about any situation. Heck, the Crysis accessories popup would actually be useful in a game like STALKER - change the sight for indoor and outdoor stuff.
BTW, as we discussed early, you'll only need the Vintorez to cheese through the entire endgame. head SHOT!!

But there's just something about a pump action shotgun.
Actually having a shotty is good if you think you're gonna be fighting mutants, especially one with a high ammo count. Buckshot is crazy effective against mutants in OL.

Aha! I finally figured out why this fucker wasn't storing savegames. Turns out that in the process of installing that ammo mod I accidentally made it try to write to a read-only drive. *doh*
So just got to Red Forest. I went through WT starting with having to killed some Dutyers because they were blocking the only way there, then catching sight of a bloodsucker as it runs away, leaving me paranoid. Then I was fighting some Mercs with my Vintorez and just as I was about to head shot the last one the blood sucker charges up from behind him and knocks him off the building he was standing on, to the ground 4 stories below. The blood sucker then just stalked off not even giving me a glance.
I'll get a better quality one with audio up later. My video card is weird and has seperate inputs for audio input, audio output, etc., so the only audio that ended up being recorded for that one was my mic input.
Yeah everyone is pretty much pinpoint accurate with them. Watch your radar and listen for the audio cues, they usually shout some stuff before throwing

Nothing is more fun then taking down a soldier right before he throws his grenade.
On another note, where is the hype for Clear Sky? Its just a couple of weeks away now. Aug 29th right?

Jeeesus. The controller at Agroprom is a dozen times scarier now. I tried to take him down twice, had my brain scrambled to kingdom come both times, then ran for the exit screaming like a girl.
I just got the key to (i think, whichever is the first one) lab X18. I'm getting random double vision, and I can't figure out why. There's no mutants nearby, and it's not anywhere near being similar to Controller effects.
Finally got the good computer back. Y'know, you go a few days without all your documents, recent games, or even the ability to run *Fallout* without chugging somehow, and you find yourself able to appreciate it more.
Anyway, on to the next update of the SMC. On the table: moving the repair component down to the partial package; detaching the MP5 upgrade; creating a stable, OL-compatible version of the Closed Captioning mod.
Busy week elsewhere, but I'll see what I can do. Updated the OP with IceBurner's tip, and holy shit August 29 is almost three weeks away

Hmm. Is there some way to prime your hand grenades so dudes can't run as easily from them? It always seems like they've got plenty of time to run while their own grenades detonate almost right after impact.

Dear radioactive Jesus, OL is hard. I'm starting to think it's maybe way too hard for me, because I get wasted over and over and it's starting to lose it's charm. I spotted one interesting little detail last night, that probably has nothing to do with OL, but I hadn't seen it before. I got attacked and killed by wild dogs (sort of a tradition now) and noticed one of the dogs biting into my hand and dragging my corpse away. He dragged it all the way to a tree and then began to eat me.
Should I be playing Oblivion Lost on a harder difficulty? I'm about 6 hours in going towards X16 and Burer (?) and I haven't had much trouble at all on "Skilled."
I had a blowout in the Bar which ended up killing the guy in the entrance cage. It was sort of sad to see that he basically stuffed pieces of himself under the bars in an attempt to escape the pain. But yeah, besides dying to the controller in Agropom once, and misc. laser-accurate grenades, I haven't really run into anything that's given me much trouble if I'm being careful. Nor have I had trouble finding ammo. I mean, no more trouble than I had in, say, the original game.
Right now I'm using the rifle from Strelok's stash, with a silencer attached and it just rapes men. I can pick off guys in the field and nobody even knows I'm doing it. My main goal now is to find a shotgun that's better than the sawed-off / long barrel. It's a pain and I know there are mutants coming up in X16 that are going to tell me to take my AK-74 and shove it.

There's a natural reactor somewhere that is veeeeery slowly fissionising. All I remember from when I found out about it is that it exists, I've no idea where.
If it still exists in OL Future Blues, here is a gun you will like.
One of the duty guys somewhere between the Bar and the duty outpost in the garbage called Barin has a unique Tundra 5.45. It's just like the modified viper, it uses ak ammo instead. It's damage is like a third of the way up the bar and it's a vicious short to medium range weapon (great handling). It even has underslung grenade launcher. I've stashed away the ak now that I have it, because it's just better except for (extreme) range, when I just pull out a sniper rifle.
Go figure out how to get that guy killed. I basically managed to start a fight with some bandits and he came and got killed on an anomaly. I had to repair it, the anomaly left it with zero durability. Hope OL has repair in it.

I got this game about a year ago and I hated it. I come back, see that the threads are still up, decide to mod it and try it again. It's now one of the best games I've played, I see why everyone is so into it now.
I love the situations that coome up though. Like when I was starting out, I went to the right and killed the patrolling military trio so I could get their guns. I complete the first mission, go back to the trader, and come back out to find that the rest of the military camp came and slaughtered the entire little town while looking for me. It was awesome, but it forced me to start over.

In graphic detail.
