I loaded up the game, worked fine. Decided to see what'd happen if I turned all the graphics up. Now I get a black screen upon loading. The game's still going, I can hear myself moving around and stuff, I can't see anything though even after turning some things back down.

God damn it the patch won't install
it says I "already have the update to versio [1.000300] installed. It includes all previous updates. No update required"

Guess I'll have to wait for the steam patch.

Nevermind, got it to work somehow.

Seems a bit hectic right at the start, does it calm down a bit after the fight for the Swamp?

If you mean the hole "omg the truck is being attacked come help within 2 mins" followed by "omg we are going to go attack the bandits hanging out around a garbage can" every minute or so. Yes it calms down.

Don't worry about failing some of those tasks, with starter equipment the early ones can be a bit rough.

Also it looks like 1.505 has a few.. issues. Seems the best way to install it (non steam versions) is to reinstall Clearsky, install 1.505 and disable your mods. Might not want to rush to it unless it fixes a game breaking crash for you.

Pfft. That's what suckers... err... users are for.

God. Can you imagine what quality control was like before the internet? Back when games came on 3.5" floppies and companies couldn't get patches out in little bits, they'd actually have to test their products before shipping. Oy. 'Course, games were a bit simpler then, programming wise.

You know I think I prefer Swamp to Cordon as a starting level. Better ambiance. I mean they're both great, but wading through radioactive swamp water, dashing through swamp gas, making a beeline for the tower you can see in the dead of night...really drives home the STALKER vibe, ya know?

Of course now I've gotta get into Cordon...anyone care to post up that guide to getting past the mg again?

So are any of the main faction war issues addressed in the patch? By "main issues", I mean primarily the complete stand-off in Garbage between the Stalkers and Bandits. Both times I've reached Garbage, the Stalkers have not moved past their initial foothold.

I really don't know how a weight mod can cause so many problems. It involves changing 2 values in 2 different files.
I did mine myself and never had an issue.

I'm not calling anyone an idiot, but I'm wondering what these modders are changing and are they sure they're not affecting something else inadvertently.
When I was messing around with it there was a value that was misleadingly similar but unrelated (and probably important for something).

There's like two in the swamp. Not really hard to miss because they can be located near the watch tower that get's attacked.

I got a weight mod with a different implementation (it's the newer, 5000kg one, which I changed back to 200kg), and the problems went away.

But yeah, i still don't know how could a weight mod that changes too lines could fuck the scripting so bad.

So I just heard this little exchange while babysitting a bunch of stalkers in the red forest, not sure if it was just great cosmic alignment of the random chatter generator or scripted -

Stalker 1 - "Ok men lets move out, time to go and be heroes again!"
Stalker 2 - "Oh come on not again"
Stalker 3 - "I NEVER get to finish my meal"

Stalker 1's text i think is a reference to the first mission of Shadows of Chernobyl, one of the stalkers says "OK men time to go and be heroes" as you start moving towards the car park. The other 2 reactions are golden.

Man the Cordon got really crowded in this game.

I like how it's possible to mod weapons to change the ammo calibur. Instead of having to wade through a tunnel of anomalies to get an MP5 that shoots pistol bullets I just have to pay the mechanic a small fee. And I think it's affected the weapon's model too, nice.

Picked up a Winchester at one point but I like my hunting rifle better. Just feels like a nicer gun, more...personable, in a weird way.

Do other weapons get their ammo modded? It'd be nice to end up with one of those M16-looking things that fired AK ammo.
