I am really considering getting this, but man I've been burned so bad in the past. Any chance this title comes with invite a friend features? Or are they planning any in the future? If you can answer that question I'd love ya'll long time :winky:
Ah, just saw the answer in a previous thread. I'll wait for a trial in the future then.
So I made a hero on Death & Glory, and after a nice 45 minute wait (reminds me of the good old days at WoW launch) I finally got in. The tutorial was pretty fun. Getting camped by a bunch of lvl 30 villains outside the building you start in? Not so much. Since the goons rolled villain on D & G I think I'll steer clear of hero side on it, even if that's where Penny Arcade is. I've seen what they can do to server balance in WoW, and I'd rather not repeat the mistake of when I rolled Alliance on Mal'Ganis.
on the subject of travel powers, i've now leveled a acrobatics and super speedster to 10 in addition to my main who flies and...there seems to be no reason whatsoever to pick anything but flying. Speed and Acrobatics both go slower than flying in a straight line (i was at least expecting super speed to be faster) and flying doesn't have to deal with avoiding enemies/ constantly going up and down buildings. Or am i missing something?
The acrobatics races are quite fun, and you can move very quickly once you get ziplines and grappling hooks. As for super speed, I hear it gets a lot faster with some skill points as well.
The acrobatics races are quite fun, and you can move very quickly once you get ziplines and grappling hooks. As for super speed, I hear it gets a lot faster with some skill points as well.
Well I have the hold down num lock for super speed thing for it, and it's definitely significantly slower than the equivalent on flight. As for fun, i like my travel powers to get me from point a to b as fast as possible so i can kill mans, no matter how fun initially i imagine your method of moving get's boring eventually
edit: it's also a lot more work to maintain the slower speed with superspeed, you need to be constantly jumping off buildings and whatnot, with flying i set my destination, go make some tea and get back as i'm arriving
What? Really? I mean, there is nothing like jumping from building from building being a speedster!
I guess you guys have figured this out already (or maybe it's common knowledge), but there's a knack when rolling a speedster for faster (and much more fun) travel: When going up a wall of a building, hit jump -just- before going back to horizontal (just before reaching the top), when you're still vertical.
Greatest jumps ever assured, and even bigger ones if you have the right talents...sorry, masteries...uh, skills.
The inability to map the super-speed toggle to something other than num-lock is infuriating. I use the numpad for my regular movement, and toggling numlock makes all those keys unresponsive. Plus, after canceling super-speed, my character remains stuck going forward for a good 20 seconds. Sometimes mashing my movement keys helps, sometimes not.
The teleport system for traveling to different areas seems intentionally obtuse. Instead of running around (and potentially getting lost) inside the Watchtower, it would be much more efficient to have all the teleport locations just open a menu with all possible destinations.
Oh, and getting my character to actually face the right direction to activate stuff while flying is something of an exercise in frustration.
I think my only other gripe is that the target "reticle" at the center of the screen doesn't actually point to wherever it is the game decides your locked target will be. For example, if I have to blow up some barrels for a mission, I have to get close and then skew my view a bit to the side before the yellow brackets pop up.

you sir are crazy, kbam >>>>> controller :P so much easier to target and use abilities with the keyboard. It actually wasn't too bad with melee, but since starting a bow character with the controller it's pretty much impossible to switch targets to who you want fast enough in big fights

But I've never had anyone who wasn't a Speedster with the num lock skill as well catch up to me when it's a straight line or an area that forces their movement to be as constrained as mine normally is.

When we do a new OP can we also get a listing for the PS3 folks. Just in case?
As a DCU nerd and an MMO virgin, my experience with DCUO so far has been nothing short of awesome. Some thoughts:
1. The story and game world are pitch-perfect. Though I would've preferred a more DCAU themed romp, the DCUO world is a great distillation of lots and lots and lots of the DCU's best stories and characters.
2. The voice acting ranges from excellent to serviceable, with the major story moments most definitely on the upper-end. I came in anticipating a lot of cheese and was surprised by how engrossing the voice work was right off the bat with the sycophantic gorillas. Awesome.
3. I never thought I'd be able to create and play as a Fourth World, New God-ish character from the ground up. Being able to keep my Fourth World styled costume while upgrading my equipment is awesome. Love how simple and flexible the costume-locking system is. Bonus points for the focused mental hand blast attack rockin' the Kirby dots.
4. Definitely feel like I need to play with a League. Solo'ing Grodd is a bit tedious alone. Still trying to get a handle of the social features. If anyone runs this on a MBP in Boot Camp, is the built-in microphone good enough for in-game voice chat? Is in-game voice chat built-in to DCUO or do I need to download other software?
5. First time a flew up to the top of a Metropolis building, got a mission, flew down and kicked some gorilla ass ... I knew I'd be hooked. It's like someone digitized my childhood comic book nerd dreams.
Also you can remap your speed power by the way. Mine is bound to my thumb mouse button. The expert races basically require you to pop in and out quickly on a climb at least for flight. I am still pissed the one I was working on I missed the platinum once by .4 seconds. Just infuriating.
Did my first instanced 'alert' mission today at Area 51, was pretty fun...until the sound konked out. Really kills the fun a bit when you can't hear a damn thing.

So wow, I'm having a ton of fun as a villain in this. Henchman 23 is now level 10. Is there a good time to PM guys to get into the guild?
I kinda want to play my Hero, but I don't like getting ganked by goons every time I try to play.

You can in fact map the super speed toggle to another key. I did it many times during beta.
It's not listed as "super speed" toggle, however. It's called something like "movement mode".
I suggest binding it to R, which will set it as a toggle, if it isn't doing that for you now. That way F activates the basic power, and if you need to get away real fast, or need to maneuver, you only have to move up one key to activate it.
There IS built in voice chat, but right now its really unpredictable. League/voice chat cuts out for hours on end without warning, so I haven't bothered with it at all yet. What I'd recommend is our Steam Group "DCUO Arcadians" so you can ask for an invite/use it as league chat while its down.
Been playing around with about 3 dozen alts and now I've finally found one I like.
Unless I'm blind though, does the OP not have which server they're on? Maybe someone should add that so we don't have to look through 60 pages to find it.

Heh. Yeah, I'm still getting used to the "this is how launch day/week/month goes" with an MMO like DCUO. Thank you for the pointer to DCUO Arcadians. Can't wait to hop back in this afternoon or evening.

Is there some way to toggle lockons with a gamepad?
That really pissed me off. Having to hold down the L1 button and do combos at the same time is unintuitive as all hell compared to how it works with a mouse and keyboard.

I don't think a wii mote counts as a game pad. Is it really necessary? I've been meaning to pick up a wired 360 controller but I'll try my keyboard first.
