Super Stardust HD is a really really good game to consider. It's a dual analog shooter like geometry wars, plus it's currently the only game that currently has trophy support. There's a demo out on the store if you're interested. It also has two expansion packs currently out, solo and team. The solo pack really extends a lot of the gameplay since it introduces endless and survival modes. SSHD is one game that I constantly come back to, I usually play it at least once a day and find myself getting sucked in every time.
i know shit about this, but I do know there's about a dozen of them, so you won't be disappointed.
oh, i hear monocrhome is a fun new puzzler
Echochrome. And yeah, it's very cool for (a) bein' totally unique, (b) its minimalist zen-style and gorgeous music and (c) puzzles that can be seriously mentally taxing. Despite all those points in its favour, I doubt I've put more than two hours into that game. $10.00
Siren. It's an old-school survival horror game with stealth aspects, brutal kills, high production values and Japanese zombies. All of those things alone are great, but together? Awww yeah. This is a game that could very well have been shipped as a full-on Blu-Ray release (and it has, in Asia), but it's a Sony original available in three bite-sized chunks (fifteen bucks ea if bought individually) or forty for all. I just ordered a Blu-Ray copy off PlayAsia for about fifty-five Canadian. $40.00
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. No, it's not a Sony original and yes, it's also available on XBL. It is also generally considered the best Castlevania ever made (it stuck to 2D while other franchises were jumping on the 3D bandwagon, and introduced deeper RPG elements to the game), and you'll often find it in the upper echelons of any Greatest Games Ever list. $10.00
Elefunk. Another rather-original and fairly-interesting game, Elefunk is best compared to Lemmings. The basic idea is an elephant has to cross some chasm or another, and you have to design a bridge to hold its weight with a limited number of parts. A cool diversion, but not for everyone - though you can't beat that price. $5.00
PixelJunk. The much-ballyhooed Eden just released a demo (surprisingly cool), but an old standby of the PSN network has been PixelJunk Monsters. Far as I can tell, Monsters involves protecting your town from marauding beasts by placing fortifications in a cute cartoony world with a top-down view. It's very popular, and the only reason I can't give it an endorsement is because I never cracked open that demo I got six weeks ago. $10.00
Best recommendation: Check out the demos. Apart from PS1 Classics, nearly every game on PSN has a demo available. The only game listed above that lacks one is, of course, Castlevania.

'Chance, you are the best kind of whore.' -Henroid
pixeljunk games! especially for local multiplayer. monsters is epic tower defence strategy, eden is crazy art/music platforming and racers is slot-car mayhem with a ton of modes to try out
echochrome is great if you like puzzlers. unique, stark aesthetic, lots of cool challenges you can tackle creatively and a level editor to mess about with
everyday shooter is phenomenal. i don't care that it's ridiculously hard; i could replay the first three levels forever. it's another art/music thing but this is a dual-stick shooter that really works
SSHD is a slightly less unique but still wicked dual-stick shooter. with multipliers, extra ship collections and big points to be had it feels almost like a pinball machine in its score-driven purity
flow is a slow-paced, relaxing and beautiful six-axis controlled game of developing your little microbe into a big old eatin' machine. it's a good show-off title for the system because it's so different, and it's fun to play co-operatively if you have a girlfriend or you're stoned or something i guess
GT5: P, Warhawk, Tekken 5: DR and Siren: Blood Curse are all AAA titles that you can pick up online if you're hankering for something high-budget, and they're all as good as anything you'd find on the shelves - in most cases, you can find them on shelves too
locoroco cocoreccho and piyotama are both like $3 or something ridiculous and they are great games. loco roco sees you guide a crew of ultra-cute locomonkeys through looped circuits and using them to unlock more dudes and more circuits. piyotama is a traditional puzzler, much like columns or puzzle bobble, where you slide levels of eggs to match and crack them. lots of playability for such low prices
more? elefunk for physics based bridge building, pain for hilariously sadistic point-scoring, high velocity bowling for, er, bowling... gripshift and fatal inertia for abstract super-fast racing (though you might wanna wait for wipeout HD, which is going to rock socks).
soo much good stuff. getting a new game and spending a night with it with my girlfriend and a sixpack of beer is my new favourite way to chill out on the weekend
Ah damn, I also forgot Siren. Like bsjezz said, it's just as good as anything you'll see on the shelves. Only thing is you have to be ready to set aside about 9 gigs of HD space for it. But it's worth it! And of course you can always delete the episodes you aren't playing and redownload them at a later time if you feel like going back.
I can also personally vouch for piyotama. At $3 it's an absolute steal and a really great, intense puzzler. Leaderboards and multiple modes are available, along with coop.
Also, WipEout HD is an expected release. That may or may not come out this year.
It should have come out on the 15th of this month, but the Psygno..... I mean, ahem, the Sony Studio Liverpool lead designer mentioned that complications lead to a delay.
The only word from Sony is that it will come out "Very soon". So it may come out anywhere between next week till next year.
Patiently salivate with us...

It's been so long since I've posted here, I've removed my signature since most of what I had here were broken links. Shows over, you can carry on to the next post.

Are you being vague on purpose, or did you not get the memo? Just goes to show awesome it is. It seems we're getting more stuff due to the delay, though.

I pretty much dumped the Epilepsy issue into everything else (New features, etc). That's why I added the extra year, "re-engineering" doesn't instill too much faith in me.
So to answer your question: I was being vague, but by accident/laziness. :P

Goddamn I wish they'd hurry the hell up with this.
If the game uncovers my hitherto undiagnosed epilepsy, then so be it, I say!
Although if the new tracks turn out to be awesome (which I have no doubt they will) I'm going to charge up to the nearest epilepsy sufferer I can find and give them a bear hug.
Carefully.

I\'ve had a lot of fun with Warhawk, PixelJunk Monsters, SSHD, and Everyday Shooter.
You may want to look into the downloadable PS1 games. They take up a small amount of space, and many of the games are hard to find otherwise. I myself have gotten Crash Bandicoot 2 and 3, Spyro the Dragon, Wild Arms, Syphon Filter, Rayman and Jumping Flash.
They've all probably been mentioned but I'll just add my voice to the choir. I'd highly recommend picking up:
PixelJunk Monsters (and the Encore expansion)
Super Stardust HD (and the Solo and Team expansions)
Everyday Shooter
flOw (and the expansion)
Echochrome
Btw, as far as I know the epilepsy thing in Wipeout HD is still a rumour. The official line is that the addition of trophies, reverse tracks, new ships, new HUDs and splitscreen is causing the delay. And while most of those wouldn't delay a game, adding in splitscreen and getting both sides running at 60fps could.
Definitely go for Pixeljunk Monsters at $5 it's well worth it if you like tower defense type games.
Pain is pretty good, and if you got the MGS4 bundle, the blu-ray disc included in the bundle should have a free voucher for it (so you have no excuse to not play it!).
There's definitely no shortage of schmups (Everyday Shooter, Super Stardust HD) or arty games (flOw, Pixeljunk Eden, Echochrome).
Also, Super Puzzle Fighter HD is a must if you need a good puzzler, although I am just basing this on how awesome the original was. But I can't imagine them screwing it up while bringing it to PSN.

PSN: ohvermie <- ADD ME FOR STREET FIGHTING ACTION!
So, are the movies and TV shows up on the US PSN? Because we don't have them in the UK yet.
Yes it is, and currently the newest coolest anime ever is being released weekly by episode xam'd. If your into anime I really really really encourage you to watch it. Downside is its only RENTABLE for 4.00. Upside, its seriously the best produced visually stunning episodic animes Ive seen... In otherwords if your an anime junkie like me particularly into Miyazaki and FLCL styled anime its a must watch.
Edit: Nevermind your in the UK. I dunno when the service is even coming to you.
1) Set up a Japanese sub account. (there are guides to do this online)
2) purchase a Jap PSN store card from Play-Asia or Ebay. (1000 or 3000 Yen)
3) download Einhänder.
Good sir, please do tell me you're not lying. Also, how much is 1000 or 3000 yen in real money (by that I mean American)?
3000 yen is about $30. The PSone downloads are 600 yen each. There must be like over 200 excellent PSone games on the Jap store including loads of cool square, SNK, capcom and konami titles.
Einhänder prob the best of the bunch as the physical copy is about 20 times that amount.

That's a great deal, problem is I don't read Japanese and I'm sure there are very few games where the language barrier wouldn't matter.
Luckily, Einhander is one of those. I shall be looking into this.
Thank you...so much. I only played the demo of Einhander that came on the OPM disc waaaaaay back in the day, but from that two-stage level I was able to declare it the only shmup I've ever loved.

That was the fun of importing Jap games, not knowing what was really going on but enjoying some charming obscure game.
Fucking INTELLIGENT QUBE! I tried to buy that game immediately after I played the demo back in '97 or '98, and was told it had been discontinued. I've been sad for ten years.
