Haha, Kamadan sure looks a lot better not covered in snow. In fact having never played this game and coming right into this whole Wintersday event thingy was a bit overwhelming. Feels a lot more coherent now.

Yeah, I did the same thing when I first started playing. But snowball fights are about the best introduction to PvP ever; you've got the basic teamwork mechanics, but the skill pool is small enough that you can actually understand and keep track of what's going on and improve your strategy. Even with the Codex matches they've got going now, it's still a pretty daunting pile of skills for a newbie to plow through.
Well, I hit twenty. Running about on the mainland now in Nightfall. I started the Eye of the North campaign as well but havn't gone far. Might swith over to it now since I'm a bit bored with killing bugs in the desert.
I'm loving the game mechanics so far. The whole MTG style skill bar is awesome, as is the skill builds and "respec anytime for free" system. Heroes are great. I've been playing with my brother and togheter we can fill out an 8 man group with highly effective fully customized dudes.
It's ugly as hell though. Resolution and textures are good I guess, but the art direction just feels, I don't know, flat. Cutscenes are really bad as well.
All in all I'm having fun with it, and I havn't even touched the high end content or PvP. Really makes me interested in GW2 as well.

You can unlock stuff in GWEN (That's Guild Wars: Eye of the North. A play on one of the supporting characters in the Prophecies campaign) that will let you carry over a few things to GW2.
I haven't really played Nightfall much but Pre-Searing (Prophecies) was some of the best looking scenery I'd seen in a long while. Long stretches of open land, rolling hills, snowy mountain peaks, shady forests then it all turns to shit.
Hmmm... me thinks it's time to play again.
Oh, and after Harsh posted I figured out why I was able to get Kansas City Hot Steppers as a clan name. Because the OG KCHS is 3 words, not 4.
It's interesting to read about people who are going through brand new to the game. I've been playing the game on/off for 5 years now, so my experiences from the beginning have kinda been muddled a bit.
If anyone needs any help, I'm still actively playing with a friend, vanquishing and going through other parts of the game. "Geod of Exile" is my IGN. Game is still a lot of fun!
So I am a bit of a horder so my storage is quite full. I will get online Monday and post a list of what I have in the morning. The collectabke crap goes for free while the weapons and other crap go for 100g a pieces. Everything must go etc. Etc.
Ya know, looking at my storage, its no wonder my room is a mess. Now I want to see my ex-wife get online and see what she does, probably craft every single set of foot armor the game has.

You know a sad thing about me? I purchased them but never go past the tutorial areas for both Nightfall and Factions. My highest character ever is my monk/necro at 18 that I decided to jump to the GWEN content with (at level 17 or so, if you can get to the area, you can access the content. Same for most of the game really...)
so yeah, I REALLY would like to finish at least one of the stroylines.
I just captured Dragon Slash from a boss and my warrior just got one hell of a lot more lethal. Feeling pretty good about his skill build now but his gear is still a mess.

You know what I like? the fact that I can type in "/bonus" and get about an entire inventory's worth of decent weapons for just about every class (except the Nightfall exclusives) and a little combat pet.
I'm halfway(?) through nightfall now, not a huge amount of people around. It's fun playing it for the first time though. Certainly helps that you can solo everything in the game so far.
I don't usually use Warrior heroes as the ability to customize a Warrior, especially an NPC Warrior, is less of an advantage compared to a custom caster.
As for builds, this is what I use. Serves well enough for general PvE use in my experience. Which ones I take and which ones I substitute a henchman for depend on what enemies I am likely to face. The two monks can deal with a large amount of damage. The prot monk uses UA as an insta-rez.
The damage reduction increases with every hit received. Damage from the first hit will be reduced by 5, damage from the second by 10, damage from the third by 15 and so on, until the enchantment ends or is recast.
Shield of Absorption is good when something is getting attacked by more than one enemy, yes. As far as I know, heroes use it properly.
Holy shit, if it works like that I can definitely see it being awesome. The spell description really fails to get that across. Gonna have to try it out now.
Searing Flames just seems ridiculous as well. Combined with other skills that use/cause burning on the rest of the party (maybe a dervish tanking?) I can see it being really powerful.
EDIT destroyers are immune to fire damage though right?
EDIT destroyers are immune to fire damage though right?
Yeah they are.
Searing Flames is awesome until your enemies begin to kite, which they do a lot of so you definitely need something to tank with. I used to run dungeons all the time with tonnes of different mates, some guild folks, some just pubs and I all most all ways ran a variant of the Searing Flames build, just because dayum it's a good nuking build.
Especially helped when there was a necromancer with blood bond(I think that was it? Had a symbol of a cut wrist) around to speed up my energy regen.
In case you hadn't noticed, my main is an Elementalist.
I play GW off and on, but until recently could only play on the Asian servers, which are dead, so I've never grouped. Ever.
I have altitis so I mess around with different characters a lot. I notice that those builds are all single-class, with no secondary profession. I tend to have my characters with maybe 50/50 or 70/30 primary/secondary skills.

So, does that mean I suck?
I think most of those builds are around 70/30? At least the monks are Monk/Mesmer for energy management.
It seems these days the "best" builds revolve around exploiting PvE-only abilities and their synergy with sets of primary profession skills.
There are exceptions though. For example, Ritualist is a very good secondary for Rangers, and Mez is a good secondary for a lot of caster builds. There are also "specialized" builds which use multiple skills from different professions, but we aren't really talking about those builds at the moment.
As for Destroyers, if you wanted to use a SF elementalist you'd need to take Winter I suppose. There are other good ele builds, but I'm not very familiar with the class.
So I ordered the Guild Wars 2 art book and received it in the mail yesterday. Goddamn does Anet have some talented artists working for them, I sure hope Guild Wars 2 is as gorgeous as the original is (if not more so).

Pretty sure it will be much more so, if the trailer is any indication.

I know several old pvp vets who freaking love it.

Anyone else screwing around in pre-searing? I could use a group to do a couple quests.
Do you remember the magical teleporter gate thing you came through at the beginning of Eye of the North? You'll find more like it.
Ahhh, magical teleporters. A staple of every epic fantasy world.
On that note, jesus christ this game is huge. So many areas to explore just in nightfall and eye of the north.

But yeah, EoTN is pretty much where da party at, yo.
My healer, I'm using Ogden. Pretty straight forward WoH looks damn good on paper at least.

My Necromancer, I'm using Master of Whispers. Seems very effective. Occasionally just kills everything when several minions die at the same time.

Warrior, I'm using Jora. Dragon slash! This is pretty much the same build I am using. No idea if she is using it effectively.

Is Shield of Absorption good? I'm a bit put off by the short duration. I should probably get Aegis at least, looks damn useful.
Putrid Bile seems like a must to get for my necro as well.

They have actually said that is the case. With the new engine they can put environments in-game which match up with the concept art they do.
