So I just played the first... I dunno. I hit level 10 and only did 2 missions, but I'm at the port city for Factions.
And I also managed snag about 3 platnum bars not including the extra 2 bars from a spare white dye I had in storage. Is Factions always this loose with gold?
Yeah, there will come a point where you must choose a side and you do so. There isn't really a difference to what side you pick, just choose whatever looks the coolest to you. I chose Kurzick because they're the most badass but Luxon aren't a bad choice either.
Keep in mind that if you want to do both sides (to get the all-missions-cleared achievement) then it's best to do it as soon as you've finished the campaign. Once you've finished you can go back to House zu Heltzer or Cavalon and start the (2-3?) missions that you skipped in your main playthrough.
This is kind of important because afterwards you are going to want to raise your rank in one of the factions very high in order to get access to faction-specific skills, etc. Also note that faction rank is account-wide, not character-specific. I suppose it would be easier to do the faction that you intend to stick with second, and do the other one during your first playthrough. Though the difference isn't huge just from doing the missions.

So, one side are basically emo treehuggers, the other uses giant turtles as siege weapons. This is gonna be a though choice...
Kurzik are not emo, fuck you.
Luxon are tribal, would-be sailors (no thanks to Shiro) who live in clans and use ships to sail across a sea turned to jade. Kurzick are emo-goth (in appearance) religious zealots who live in trees.
Really they are both interesting factions. You should probably choose your side based on which faction-specific armors you find more interesting.
What usually determines your faction is your guild though. Guilds have to ally themselves with one or the other faction to participate in Alliance PvP. You'll want to be of the same faction as your guild. Personally I like Luxon best, but my guild is Kurzick so there it goes.
Ah, but Kurzick's Save Yourself is more powerful than Luxon's Save Yourself. It's extra Kurzkie.
Well, the icon is better looking, thats for sure.
I'm not currently in a guild, am I missing out? I added a bunch of PA people to my friends list, but noone is ever online. :?
Yeah, having a guild is important, especially if you care about PvP. As with any MMO, it is generally a better experience if you have a guild to belong to.

Guilds are great for A) PvP and Running through some of the Hard Mode missions and dungeons. I've been playing more again lately (I want a survivor dagnabbit) and the guild I'm in, while small, is great at helping with any PvE stuff. Not so much a PvP guild though.
I'm only in a guild with one other person, and we still have a blast. So you don't necessairly need a guild, but it certainly helps. Or to at least know someone else that's playing. Most fun I've had fun recently is running zaishen missions and pugging it up on hard mode. Generally people are horrible and suck, but it's still a lot of fun, reminds me of the early days before heroes.
So I haven't played in a long while and several of my older characters got ignored. That said, several had two birthday presents in their inventory. I open all of them up and I think I have 5 Aatxe's
You know i've often thought about going back into this game, but every time i install it the download speeds to get into areas are so abysmal i just end up giving up and i have no idea where my discs are now that its been years.
Really? The whole streaming things had been great for me. I downloaded 5-600 meg once to install the game, that was it. Never takes more than 30 seconds to get into new areas.

Tip: Create a shortcut but put -image after the path for the game. When you do this, it will download every file you're missing and not download them in between zones. The whole game, Prophecies/Factions/Nightfall/EOTN is maybe 4 gigs total.
Also, started playing this again. Character name is Deathly Deathness, but I'll be playing on all of them. Is there a guild or anything going?
I'll add you to friends list. I don't think theres a PA guild running atm. I just joined one of the "we own cavalon" guilds, nice to have a discount merchant.
The image thing is useful, but I never found it strictly necessary. After the initial setup, any new zones load after a short download. This is on DSL and cable connections.
I picked up Nightfall on sale about a year ago, and enjoyed it for a while, but didn't stick with it. I think it was mostly because I never found anyone good to play with. I feel like trying it out again, anyone up for playing through Nightfall with me or have any suggestions on finding people who don't suck to play with?

Everyone is bad. So bad.
(add sour stripes to friends)
Thanks
I assume either dervish or paragon would be best for me to play, since I only own Nightfall?

Depends on how you want to play. but I'll warn you on the Paragon. When I last had played they had ruined them because of their synergy in PVP and those changes made it harder to play them.
Seidkona on
Mostly just huntin' monsters.

Probably going for EOTN now, or maybe factions. Still haven't grouped with anyone, they weren't kidding when they said you could solo this game.

...and I did. I hope they don't think I'm trying to hack my own account.
EDIT:Oh man, I just remembered what one of my characters names was. I guess I didn't even need support.
