Factions trolled the living shit out of me with their quests and missions. Getting a level 10 quest that requires me to save a child in the middle of a town populated by 2 bosses and at least a 15-16 of those assassin guild motherfucks.
I made the switch to the Nightfall storyline and haven't raged once since I've started. Also enjoying the slight lovecraftian vibe i'm getting from there.
I'll probably pickup EOTN after I finish up the NF storyline.
reVerse, I looked back several pages on the thread but I couldn't find any info from you on your character. What level are you, where are you at right now, what class are you playing, etc.? Survivor runes are cheap-ish if I recall correctly, and Zaishen missions/bounties give a ton of cash for completion (plus whenever there's a mission up, a ton of people are willing to pug it).
Yeah, mind giving us a hint at what you are currently running reVerse?
If you're running the highest level armour for your area, there's no reason to be dying as much as you say. If you are level 20 and not running max level armour, then you definitely need to upgrade. it's not expensive getting it, though as you say, you only have 3k, you might want to try a little bit of gold grind in lower level areas to make up the money and material (try to salvage your material, it's much cheaper).
And, if you are running max level armour, what rune setup do you have? You really don't need to run anything more than minor runes in PvE. You should have Survivor insignia on your armour, but if that's a little pricey, you could try running Stalwart runes for bonus armour vs physical damage. While you take a lot of degen and magical damage in PvE, +10al vs physical will really help if you can't get Survivior insignia.
If you are playing a caster character, still try to get a max level shield with a +30hp mod and +10al vs slashing damage, it's the most common physical damage. I know it sounds really strange running a shield instead of a focus on a caster, but use it as an alternate weapon and swap to it if you are getting swarmed. You'll get half of the armour from a shield without meeting its requirement (so +8al from a max level shield) and the full bonus from its mods.

I play a Ranger and I find that kiting works in most situations.
My original comment was more to display my annoyance about the inconsistency between friends and foes regarding my importance in battle, not about how difficult and unplayable the game is.

I've never had any problems using heroes and henchmen with my ranger, and I've don't almost everything with it, mostly with H&H. You shouldn't be attracting the enemy at all. If you find that they're attacking you because you get there before the henchmen, do this:
Get to just outside your aggro bubble. Like, there should be less than a millimeter between the bubble edge and the red dots on the map. Hold CTRL+Shift and click on an enemy. It forces the AI to attack your target, but without your character attacking said target. To be a bit safer, back up after they make their charge down to the enemy, then search through the enemy groups for any elementalists and interrupt them if they try to drop a firestorm or meteor shower on your henchmen blob. The heroes and henchmen will eventually spread out by themselves, and you are free to stand back and plink away with arrows.
We are Luxon at the moment actually, but we can always change.
Sid: I do the exact same thing. I might make an effort to change this. :P
Yesterday we were kurzick.... did we change already?
Nope. We're still forest goths instead of awesome land pirates.

They were meant to be awesome land pirates. That was the concept behind them, anyway. They just turned them into jade sea dwelling hippies in the actual game.

If they were actual pirates that would be awesome, but I'll be damned if I am going to help a bunch of hippies.
"Clan Krieger" for the alliance invite.

So, thoughts? I only have a rank 1 title in Kurz, so I honestly don't mind if people prefer to be in a Luxon alliance. Might help raise awareness, but on the other hand it depends how many people have Kurz\Lux titles they want to work on.
Loki informs me that you can guest at an opposite alliance guild and then change your alliance temporarily and work on your title through them apparently. AKA: Kurz invite to Lux guild can work on their Lux title in AB and vice versa. Apparently, you won't get kicked out of ABs if your guest pass runs out as well.

Yeah, pretty sure it works that way. I know if you get a guest invite to a luxon guild, you can use their NPCs to access the luxon side of alliance battles, since a lot of old guildies did it to max both titles. I think you stay in the guild hall for the guild that invited you after your guest pass is up if you don't leave manually, but I can't remember. Haven't guested in about 3 years.
What's the difference between the two factions? I made it a couple missions past the Ascension part of the Factions campaign before I made the switch to nightfall.
Personally, I'm more on the Kurzick track then Luxon. I'm rank 4 or 5 on Kurzick. That said, I don't AB too often, I usually get my faction through JQ or FA (where the guild's alliance doesn't matter). I'll usually AB though when it's the Z-quest for the day or something.
We can switch between Kurzick and Luxon every week is one option. Or we can just go Luxon if most people want to go that way. I have another guild that I could get a guest invite for if I wanted to do Kurzick stuff. Though if we were Luxon, we can't ally with Kurzick guilds, like I'm assuming Morkath's is.
Whatever we decide, we'll have to get Voro to handle.

There's really no substantial difference. Just depends on which title you'd want to work on, and maybe if you're going for Jade(Luxon) compared to Amber(Kurzick).

I really don't mind either way. I was just discussing it with Unlucky as it's a way to work on the opposite title track to your guilds allegiance. I do play AB occasionally, but I'm not a title hunter, so I don't really care what side I end up on, as long as I can annoy people with my cripshot ranger.
Just started playing again, never played that much to begin with, though I took an assassin to 20 in factions. Working on the prophecies campaign right now, and I seem to remember there being stuff in the tutorial area that you needed to make sure and get, because you couldn't get it again later if you missed out. Some weapon that would sell well because of its odd stats, and some signet?

The only things I can think of are the -50hp Grim Cesta - but that's in post searing Ascalon, and the Resurrection Signet - which is available to buy from the Ascalon skill trainer if you miss the quest in pre searing. Though I haven't dont pre searing in years, so I could be forgetting something.
Those were the 3 items I was thinking of, tys. Thought Grim Cesta was pre-searing for some reason. But then I'm a big noob at this game and know very little.

I've decided to fill the menagerie on my ranger and level the pets to 20. It's depressing to see how many pets I need to level. At least I could cheat by charming a level 15 tiger, level 12 lion and level 12 lioness.

I haven't played in a looooong while. And even then, I didn't play too much. Now that I'm wanting to give the game another chance, I have to remember a characters name? I have no freaking clue. All my usually ones didn't work.
WTF #2
In order to unlock my account I have to get support's help. Except it's not automated. You have to contact them either through their web questionnaire (which bugged out on me) or email them and wait.
WTF #3
I email them from my ncsoft verified email address making note of my Name, my NCSoft Account name, and my Game ID for GW and I get this back:
Thanks for contacting Guild Wars Account Support.
At this time we need to verify that this is indeed your account. Please provide as much of the following information as you can:
-- What first and last name did you use when you created the account?
-- What physical address did you use when you created the account?
-- What date of birth did you use when you created the account?
-- What are the 20/25-digit serial codes for all games you added to the account?
-- What is the Unique Account ID for all the game accounts you added to the account? (This was sent to you via e-mail on the date your game account was activated with a subject header of 'Game Account Activated'.)
-- What are the last 4 digits of the credit card or the 20-digit game time code originally used to activate the account?
Hah. I.... just.... want.... to.... play.... the.... game. I own a valid copy of Trilogy (through Steam) and I gave them most of that info. Address?? Date of Birth?? Seriously.

They've had a lot of account theft problems. This is not unusual. If they didn't ask this kind of stuff, getting support to send you someone elses account info wouldn't be too difficult.

I would think though that having my ncsoft name, GW game ID and emailing the request from the account's verified email address they'd be a little less paranoid.

It's not like getting a hold of someones email password isn't difficult for people who want to. Selling accounts is pretty lucrative. They're being paranoid because they don't want players angry at losing potentially thousands of hours of progress. To their way of thinking, if you can't remember a characters name that you created, then you're probably not the account holder.

It wasn't so much theft as people logging in using their own account name and password and being able to access another person's account at random. They added the whole "log in with the name of your character" thing like, right after the massive forum meltdown over it.

Hah, yeah my backlog is huge, so finding another game shouldn't be tough. I just had a hankering to play after reading the GW2 thread.
There are plenty you can't get via quests. They kind of changed their minds in game design later on with the thought that questing for skills is dumb, so just make more money and BUY them with PvP unlocks or by visiting the right skill vendor!

Also, why in the hell is Stephen Blum in my guild wars??
He's going to be in GW2 as well.
M Bison is pretty easy as a ranger, just run a PvP cripshot build (Crippling Shot, Savage Shot, Distracting Shot, Apply Poison, Healing Hands, Troll Unguent, Natural Stride, whatever for the eighth skill). Keep Apply Poison up, keep him crippled and poisoned, and interrupt his heals. If he hits you with a condition, use healing hands to remove it (it can remove 2 at once). When he retreats, use troll unguent if you need to. It's not fast, but it's not hard.

They changed that in Factions, and personally, I thought it was a better system. While you end up paying a lot for skills, it's hard to make an effective starting build if you need to go look for guys with quests who might have that last skill you need.
They changed it again in EotN, with quests granting PvE only skills, which again, I didn't mind. Mainly because I basically ignore the PvE only skills.
