There are plenty you can't get via quests. They kind of changed their minds in game design later on with the thought that questing for skills is dumb, so just make more money and BUY them with PvP unlocks or by visiting the right skill vendor!

They changed that in Factions, and personally, I thought it was a better system. While you end up paying a lot for skills, it's hard to make an effective starting build if you need to go look for guys with quests who might have that last skill you need.

They changed it again in EotN, with quests granting PvE only skills, which again, I didn't mind. Mainly because I basically ignore the PvE only skills.

But you could buy skills anyway in Prophecies. It takes eons to build up a decent selection of skills either way.

Yeah, but the way it worked, skills were available from quests early, or to buy later. And there was barely anything available at the start. So you played a good half of the game without a working build, doing quests with that crap build trying to get skills to put together a good one. With Factions and Nightfall, at least you could look through the available skills, since a decent amount were unlocked at the start, and make a good starter build instead of playing for a dozen hours before you had a decent build.

There's pros and cons to each system, I just preferred Factions/Nightfall, because I hated having half a build.

And this reminded me of attribute refund points, and the hell you went through to change builds in the first month the game was out. Ugh. Talk about a bad design choice.

Loki two of those skills you're talking about are elite. It's also painfully slow and I even lost against a couple dudes trying to get to Bison. It doesn't help that I ended up getting healer after healer.

Eh, sorry, mending touch, not healing hands. I always get the names confused, since Mending Touch has a hand for its icon.

As I said, it's slow. But it's easy and it lets you get through it as a ranger. I don't see how anyone beat you using it. They should be permanently poisoned, crippled, and never get a skill/spell off. I suppose the build does take a bit of skill to use, but it shouldn't be beyond anyone with a vague knowledge of playing a ranger.

The key here is using a recurve bow though. Were you? You'll need the interrupts to hit on time, and the recurve bow is quite simply the best bow type in the game. Lowest, fastest flight arc and speed, which is what you need.

I ended up getting Alesia and Mhenlo repeatedly which is a lesson in how to effectively interrupt. Sogalon was probably the most annoying one to fight along with Eve. I couldn't interrupt her parasitc bond fast enough and she couldn't do enough damage to beat my troll unguent.

I need to finish up the Prop. and Nightfall storyline to get more elites and skills I'm still missing for that build.

Edit: Crip shot has an amazing animation, and more ranger skills need to have that.

It does, which is why it's my favorite ranger elite (aside from being downright awesome in PvP). Nearly all ranger bow attacks use the standard draw animation and just put a different glowy bit on the front of the bow (for the record, Penetrating Shot has the best one of these and the best sound), but for Crippling Shot they really went all out.

This weekend is Eye of the [Strike]Storm[/Strike] North faction weekend. Does something like that start on Thursday or Friday? I want my ranger norn armor dammit. I'm only rank 2 with the Norn!

Ranger Norn armour is indeed awesome. I think it's one of the only armour sets in Eye of the North that uses a new model for the set, instead of reskinning old sets in different combinations.

Pretty sure the weekend events start on Friday and carry over to Monday.

I'll probably be farming faction with my ranger over the weekend, so I'll log in and see who else is. I've got hard mode unlocked in all of the campaigns if anyone is going to do some vanquishing as well.

Voro, get it on the character you need it on. The titles add to the entire account in the Hall of Monuments, you don't need to do it all on one character anymore.

Good choice. I'm always baffled when I see people grab the weapons that have sundering (like the Deldrimor Longbow). Statistically it's pretty awful. Vampiric outdoes it in raw damage output, and the -1 health degen is pretty negligible (and completely negated when you just swap to another weapon when not using it).

Its even worse in the case on a longbow since rangers are generally pretty terrible at doing damage outside of spiking and condition degen, neither of which benefits from the mod.

I actually did the entire campaign with henchmen, and I got MOX about halfway through. The last two missions took me a couple of tries because I had to bail when things looked dicey since it's a survivor char. I've been doing the bonuses for every mission as well. The only one I'm missing is the Crystal Desert one that you have to protect the ghostly hero and kill the three generals.

I would have been tempted to get that longbow, but I already have one with similar stats, which is actually what I use on my ranger due to the increased range. For the most part I just let my henchmen do the work while I toss out a couple of bleeds or interrupts. I'm about 180k away from survivor rank 2. I was surprised to get 80k exp from turning in the Flameseeker Prophecies book. I'm considering just farming the Prophecies missions and turning books in. I've been playing through Nightfall on my necro though, and I think I might be able to knock out those missions without dying as well.

I managed this bonus with H+H via the pointers I got from the Wiki: stay with the Ghostly Hero and fight off all the mobs until you get a Forgotten boss coming at you from the side. When he and his team are dead, rush back and kill all three generals, bam bam bam - bonus achieved. IIRC you can even make it back and still save the Ghostly Hero with time to spare; I don't even think he was under attack yet by the time I'd gotten the bonus, but I mapped out at that point since I already had credit for the mission.

Man, there are some really dumb and annoying people in forst aspenwood. Was playing my trapper and two people just kept hounding me for not instantly dropping my full 7 traps into 6 different spots on a gate in the 4 seconds it takes for them to run by me.

The best is how they would swear up and down that they weren't wasting time following me around, yet knew for a fact I hadn't just placed any traps in any other spot in the time they weren't watching me.

Really need to find a way to play mp games without actually dealing with mp people.

Seriously though, could I get an invite to the PA one just so they leave me alone? >.> Gonna hammer out the Frost Gate mission today and try and make it to Lion's Arch, name is Sabriel Rin.

Will do - gimme an hour or so to do some... things... and you'll have an invite waiting for you. We're a fairly loose conglomeration of players, that have no real structure. So, uh, yeah, enjoy! And most of us, even through our cold exterior, would still probably help out a fellow guild member. If they pay :)

So after reaching the end of the game what is the endgame like? Hmm, that sounds odd.

Even without selling any minipets I'm halfway to the cost of my elite prestige armors, with nearly all the materials too. I can backtrack to the missions I missed and turn in this Flameseeker Prophecies book for another nice chunk of money and probably afford a 3rd. I still haven't found any elite skills and started skipping most of the non primary quests, can go back and finish them, but beyond that, what do players do? And are there any other things like the Flameseeker Prophecies books that I should make sure not to miss?

The end game is just doing whatever. There's high level areas to do (Tomb of primeval Kings, Underworld, Fissure of Woe and Sorrows Furnace in Prophecies), you could try your hand at PvP, but I think that's basically on life support now, or just go grind and farm for more prestige stuff.

Any boss past a certain point in the game has an elite skill - you have to use a signet of capture to get it though. Past the normal missions, players usually play in Hard Mode which you unlock once you beat prophecies. From there you can do all the missions again in Hard Mode, and also vanquish areas to get achievements. There's also elite areas that you access through the Temple of Ages like the Underworld and Fissure of Woe. There's also Sorrow's Furnace, another Elite mission. Beyond that, there's other content like the War in Kryta, but you'd have to do Eye of the North for that.

I'm not sure where you are in the game, I know you were just playing through prophecies, so there's also the other 2 campaigns and Eye of the North. But there's plenty to do in the end game - PvP, titles, achievements, get lootz, etc.
