Wireless at PAX?

So, I'm just curious if there's wireless internet down there. I see a lot of folks posting, but I was just curious whether or not they've got wifi at the center this year or not.

Bring it

The signs at the wireless "area" said they didn't have any internet access. I was posting stuff via my phone though, maybe others had similar hookups.

There's free wireless at the Paragon, you just have to sign up for it.

Extended Stay America has wireless highspeed for $5 per week or something, and dialup for free. Didn't bring my wireless usb, and they didn't give me the number for dialup.

Though I don't really care, that was just the night we arrived, now we got highspeed here in the con atleast.

I couldn't get access to the internets from the Center, but had no problem at RedLion.

There is a 'freemeydenbauerwifi' spot but it takes you to a portal requiring a login.

They have internet access in the wifi lounge despite signs that claim otherwise. I saw a guy playing WoW on his laptop sitting right in front of the sign.

Doc, that's on a jacked connection. I'm not very trusting of unauthorized networks. I've already investigated two networks - one is "Free Public Wifi", and the other is "freemeydenbauer".

The freemeydenbauer connection is HIGHLY dangerous - it has broken several wifi protocols when I attempted to connect to it, in terms of security.

The "Free Public Wifi" seems real, but it looks like an ad-hoc connection, aka from a laptop. So I'm not sure, maybe the dude playing WoW is on a wireless PC card (like what you get from your service providers).

Either way, I'd rather wait for SpeakEasy to set up their lounge, if they're coming.

I've been jacking either 'default' or 'linksys-g' for my internet needs.

Probably makeshift wireless connections that someone hooked up to the local Ethernet ports on that floor. I think I saw the ports somewhere along the south wall in the lounge.

We caught a couple poeple hooking up a wifi router to the network in BYOC. Most likely thats where some of the access you might have found has come from.

Indeed, I remember some very pissed Enforcers checking each row in search of the culprit. They got their wifi router's confiscated, no?

There are 10 Comcast Workplace modems set up over at the Red Lion in the convention area - just for PAX.

Each one has a WiFi access point on it, but there are also 3 unused Ethernet ports on each one if you happen to have a cable with you.

These modems are set up for 8Mbps also!!

The WiFi is wide open - so go nuts!!!
