I need to do a portfolio for art, and i figured I should at least do it on something I enjoy.

So, what I would like is names/galleries of artists who specialise in space, spaceships, and futuristic scenarios. Post-apocalyptic, steampunk, whatever final fantasy is (love the magitek/airships).

The more epic the better.

I need these for inspiration and to show the teacher where I am coming from with my art.

you want to visit the forum www.conceptart.org

many of the better things have been compiled in this section: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=46
but its only a small amount.

At the top of the page there are a bunch of thumbnails, each containing work from a different artist. Look at those.

Look at the exclusive sketchbook section (which you have to sign up to see). Look all around.

I agree with myvillain, definitely check out conceptart.org.. could spend hours there myself!

The artist who springs to mind to me when you mention space is a fella on deviantART called Dinyctis. I'm not so sure his real name is on there (if it matters to your portfolio), but some of his works are absolutely stunning.

If you're looking specifically for spaceships and robots then:

Some really awesome concept art there from all over. A lot of really epic spaceships and scenes.

I studied at a small school Attila Hejja founded. He was the head artist for NASA for a long time and won a lot of crazy awards and did some crazy projects. His paintings are very, very good. You should check him out.
