Argh! I want to kill wordpress[Alignment issues]

A friend invited me to write for her television website/blog thing. I been meaning to get back to writing, so I figured this would work.
The first few articles I wrote didn't have much in the way of pictures, so I thought I would change that with my latest article. I wrote it all in Word 07 and then copy/paste it into wordpress. Then the frustration came in.... no matter what I try, I can't get pictures to align or wrap around the text. They always either end up on the left hand side, or worse, show up like this;

I don't know much about HTML, so I just use the quick upload option where you pick from center, left, right, etc.
I thought this might have to do with something about writing in Word, but I see that if I try writing directly in wordpress, it doesn't seem to format things, it's just like notepad where it seems to be one big ass line.
So my question is if there's any way to fix this? Am I going to have to learn HTML?
