Earthquakes...like them?

Yeah Cali just got hit with a 5.8. Its hilarious to me since a lot of my friends are first timers to the quaking scene (its been a while since our last decent one).
So anyone else enjoy the roiling and shaking of the earth?
I barely felt this one. My phone went down for like 20 minutes, that was the biggest impact for me. Edit: I'm in L.A. county.
I've always thought earthquakes were kinda fun, if you can be away from things that aren't gonna fall on you and kill you.
My coworkers cleared out of the office in 2.3 seconds flat.
Even though we're supposed to remain here.
...they're still not back yet and they're not outside the building.

Yeah it was fun for me. I just put my legs up on my rolling chair and rode it around the office. My coworker is from michigan though and he shat a brick.
Now in the OLD days, earthquakes were much bigger and made me try to duck and cover, none of this new weak stuff hoo ha that lasts for 5 seconds. Why in the Northridge....*rambles off*
I'm on the 46 floor of a building in downtown LA. I was peeing at a urinal. I looked up to the guy next to me and just said "shit, i hope this is an earthquake and not a terrorist attack." It was fun being in a building on rollers.

Looks like it was centered in LA. Hopefully not a lot of damage.

Small Californian quakes are frequent enough that I literally sleep through most of them without evening knowing or caring. This particular one (a 5.8 quake centered around Chino Hills, noonish) was enough to get me up -- one of the larger ones in recent memory.
The Northridge quake from a several years back? Yeah, that one sucked.
Downgraded to 5.4. They still scare me every time. Always think "Is this it or is it getting bigger?" (even though I'm pretty sure they don't usually work that way).

It was first reported as 5.8, then went down to 5.6, and now this.
Frankly, from where I was (10th floor in downtown LA) I'm surprised it even measured that big. Seemed pretty mild to me. We didn't even shut down the elevators.
I think this might be my first earthquake that I've actually felt, even though I've lived in Cali for a total of about 10 years so far. Strangely enough. But yeah, I'm in Monrovia right now, and at first I heard the floors creaking like there was someone really fat walking around upstairs, and I was like, "Weird, there isn't anyone else in the house..." and then I felt the building start shaking and I was like "Wow I didn't think our washing machine could shake this hard..." But yeah, it took like half a minute for me to realize it was an earthquake. And then we went outside and I saw all the trees swaying in synchrony, like the fur on a dog shaking itself. It was kinda cool.
I was wondering about that. Our house was shaking pretty intensely. I figured it must have been scary for people in high-rises and stuff if their building was shaking that much.
I live like ten minutes away from Chino Hills, the epicenter. Class got evacuated, and then my college closed for the day. Felt...kind of like one of those shitty wooden roller coasters; not necessarily bad but bumpy enough to be scary. Phone lines were clogged and shit which sucked, and I still haven't gotten through to one of my friends who's in high school in Chino Hills.
Overall, kind of a cool experience though. It was funny, because the initial shake felt sort of like someone dropped something really, really heavy near us, and everyone was sort of like...uh, what? Then it really started to shake and my whole class just BOLTED for the door, and I was like...

Our building was built on rollers, and the effect was very muted. I never realized just how effective they'd be.
I've been in California for 2 years and still have never felt one.
Not all of California is near a fault line.
Yeah. Sacramento's not really in a danger zone, but apparently they feel them every so often around here - typically bigger ones near the bay.
I used to live in Davis, which is like 30 minutes away. I think I slept through one once when I was living there. It was supposed to have been about 4-something.
I didn't even feel it. I'm over at UCLA, and I was on the bus during the quake, apparently. I got into work and got a text message from BruinAlert, our emergency services thingy, telling me there was a quake, and that was the first I heard about it. My coworkers were all shook up about it when I mentioned it, but honestly, if I can't even feel it when I'm on a bus...

Typically you won't feel a quake if you are in a vehicle in motion. If you do it's probably a big one.
Also, that earthquake alert is rather hilarious. If it's big enough to be a danger you won't need an alert, because you'll know already. I lived near the Landers quake in 92, which was a 7.3. You don't need an alert to tell you when a 7.3 rolls in.
5.4 isn't too dangerous, when it gets into the sixes you start to get worried.
See thats the best part about living in California. In many countries a 5.4 would ruin peoples shit. Seriously.
So very true. An earthquake like this would've ended some civilizations. To Cali? "Bitch where's my frap?! I don't care if there was an earthquake! Hurry up!"

It was pretty tame overall, no damage that I've heard about yet
edit: I went to Ralphs immediately afterward to get a bite to eat, the people working there were pretty shook up
Felt it over here in Calabasas- seemed to go on for about 10-15 here. They cleared our office for about 5 minutes as a precaution.
Cell and land line phones are intermittently down still.

I'm pretty much used to this shit. I think the last time I was scared during an earth quake was '89.

Wow, it hit way closer to me than I thought. I'm surprised I barely felt it.

i am working up in oceanside right now and we really felt it, although that might be a byproduct of working in a shitty building
my boss, from wisconsin, ran out the door and has yet to come back... that was what... an hour ago?

Don't leave me behind.
Fun stuff.

I saws the news. They showed us some fire and people in panic.
Terror in the streets. The earth swallowed everyone whole and shook the city. Mass Hysteria.
Total fucking carnage. You are all blessed you aren't living in this Hell City right now. I might evacuate later if I get bored.
