Does anyone have good links to character tutorials? i'm looking for something like the VF5 guide that was posted in that particular thread ages ago.
Or hell, just some combo videos.
Random question: Was SC4 tested in arcades? I know SC3 wasn't, but I'm encountering a lot of questionable crap (Cerveantes' while rising B,B is ludicrous).
Just got home from work (sigh), and I'm about to start some basic write-ups for a few of the characters. Meanwhile you can check the link to the Mycheats guide in the Additional Resources section at the bottom of the OP. Or, if you're really feeling up to it, you can head over the the caliburforum and check the section for whichever character you're trying to learn. There's good stuff there, and they'll be happy to answer any non-stupid questions you may have.
I'm still tweaking this one. I had to make some substitutions for clothing, but hopefully I'll unlock more stuff closer to her costume. Her style is Talim.
Just wondering - aside from the manga-designed characters, are there any other characters in the "star" section? I was hoping Hwang might at least be in there as a Xianghua reskin.
edit: apparently not, BlueDestiny. Same for the star wars dudes, which blows, would have been super awesome to use the secret apprentice style.
Definately. Some of them are freaking excellent. We can't send characters to friends systems, can we? Also - is a save file tied to the PS3 it is saved on, or can it be shifted to another?
My brother needs Ivy help and I can't find it in the guide.
We noticed Ivy has three formations now, and he has Coil mode and Serpent Embrace mode, but he can't find the basic Whip mode, we poked around the move list and I checked online for him, and we can only use attacks to get to Whip mode. What is the basic move to make the whip?
I've been playing Soul Calibur since SC2 came out. I'm a big fan.
Question about the crictical strikes, I tried hitting the left bumper when my enemy's globe was red and his health bar is flashing, but I have yet to pull of the move, what's the trick?
Also, with the character creator, where can I unlock more stuff, right now i've only played through the story mode a bunch of times. Also, I assume as you level up a characters style, the better the created char will be in relation to that style?
Thanks!
*EDIT*Can you equip lightsabre's to created chars? I want to make some Jedi's!
anyone else having trouble connecting to ranked matches? i've only got into one. it always says full or failed and no one seems to find my games when i host. this sucks, i wanna kill!

you have to break off a piece of armor from your opponent and he has to be flashing red AND you have to hit LB when SOUL CRUSH shows up near your name (like where it would tell you about combos and shit).

Is it just me or is her stance switching less fluid now? coiled->embrace is ok, but I'm having a rough time moving into the others without breaking up my rhythm. Anyone have advice?
Ivy is completely different now. Look forward to relearning her almost from scratch.
Stance changes can now be done almost any time. There aren't as many specific moves that switch stances, so you'll have to do it yourself. Just press B+K or A+K during a move and you'll switch stances on the way out. This even works with grabs. How you use this will be up to you, though, and that's where the real challenge comes in.
More info, and a chart:
It works as a flow: WP -- CL -- SW -- SE. You can go one step left or right. During an attack hit A+K to go one left, B+K to go one right. Each stance change is accompanied by a flash of RED (A+K) or BLUE (B+K), and there's a delay before you can do another stance change. The easiest (lol?) way to get from SW to WP, or visa versa, right now is to just do CS and then stance change twice during the animation. You can also try for WP WRB,B, but it's harder to get them both.
So, good luck with that.
Also, there's a new JF (fastest input) for CS which does 100 damage.
I've added PunkBoy's CaS characters to the OP, plus small writeups on a few of the characters (Amy, Cassie, and Siegy so far). I'll see if I can dig up some more Ivy stuff for tomorrow, but I'll warn you all right now: She was never a good character for beginners, and she's even worse for that now. Be very wary.
Is it possible to use Algol's style in a CaS character? I like his moves but he is so dang ugly.
I haven't checked lately, but I don't think you can.
What's stopping me mainly in CAS is deciding what weapons to use. I was close to completing Altair, but I just wasn't solid on a weapon that he could use.
Anywho, I thought I'd show my D2 Necromancer (what male voice 5 was made for IMO) and my friend's Auron.
[spoilered for size]
After playing through with him for a while, I thought he was a little "thick". So, I have slimmed him down since this pic.
He looks better in combat.

my friend pointed out that you can customize yoda using the rings and shit in the special item slot. i was wondering why my other dudes couldn't use that slot.
i'm starting to notice this kilik bullshit in ranked games now. pretty fucking annoying since you know its a mashathon. sidestepping helps a lot but his attacks mix up horiz a lot so its not always easy to tell where its coming from.
Unfortunately, no lightsabers for your created characters.
Harshness!
Looks like I'll be attempting to create myself first as a badass celtic dude, then maybe a hot chick, then I'll have to see what I can actually do...should be fun, but I'm still in the process of re-learning how to play. Raphael feels so different than from SC2, and he was my best char!

The rings are only for story characters' 1p costume, since they can't be edited for better stats. More people should look into using them as they're very powerful.
So far I've made some Fire Emblem characters. Ike and Marth are easy to make, but make sure you give Marth Amy's move set for the gayest critical finish (that isn't cassies) ever. So awesome.
I made the Dread Pirate Roberts using Raphael. I was quite amused when I realized that he was still fighting left-handed.
Too bad I suck at this game, Algol tore me to shreds on just normal, took me 8 minutes to finally beat him playing arcade. (For some odd reason I ripped Aprentice apart in under a minute my first try)
I need to learn how to combo better and to actually learn to block attacks.

Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults; if you succeed in doing this, tell me how.
is there a "safe" way to get up from a knockdown? maybe not 100% but something reliable? i just played against siegfred (as sophi) and he would super stab me, i'd fall, then it was almost guarenteed beatdowns with his sword. anyway i can get into a block quickly? it seemed too hard to roll out.

You can block on the ground. Rolling is generally for avoiding incoming moves as there are a lot of set-ups that involve getting someone to roll (you can't block while rolling and you're susceptible to certain moves that work well against it). So, just wait for their attack (probably a mid) and block it, roll when you see a vertical move, though, and you can get up with a WR attack.
You can also tech out of certain situations by hitting G the moment you touch the ground. This can leave you open if your opponent see it coming, so be careful.

Cassie's crit is probably the best because( and I think most men and some women will agree) that is the best way to die ever .
I've made some Generic guys and Green Scar Hulk so far. I want to make a Kamen Rider using Yun- Seoung only because his crit is pure Sentai.

Possible? Probably not
Awesome? Definately.

Also, I suck at online. The lag doesn't help matters, and the "lobby" system blows.

Ah sorry, opened the spoiler, saw Ibuki then closed it and thought nothing of it
They're all excellent I can't wat to get this and start some CaS fun
Goddamned R6V2 got me addicted to custom chars, had spidey, scorpion (and reptile/sub-zero/smoke etc), and Iron Man

No. You're limited to the weapons of the main characters (except lightsabers).
I'd think it would be an unlockable at least but I guess I wouldn't be too surprised at em trying to make an extra easy buck with DLC.
I could have sworn that I saw a video of someone using Grieve Edge on their CaS character... ah well.
