I'm up for some matches. My gamertag on the 360 is Pollo Diablo C.

Page, how did you find out all the unlocks already? Did the devs release them?

Also, fuck the Apprentice in his overpowered ass.

I think the Apprentice is actually pretty weak. He really wants to get one of his 3 launchers off so he can do the air combo or at least juggle you. His ground game is exceedingly weak and he's got a lot of issues with being able to play mix-up quickly.

On the other hand, he has a hadoken and Chun-Li kicks so I'm sold on him so hard.

Hey e'erybody. Sorry I couldn't accept any invitations last night. My 360 and PS3 are flipping out on my wireless connection. Can anybody else use a Linksys WRT54G wireless router with the consoles successfully? I'm thinking about swapping it out for a new one.

Also, my 360 and PS3 IDs are templewulf.
I was using it successfully until yesterday.

    Not sure what happened... :(

At first, it was just my PS3 dropping connection to the media server. Then it started disconnecting from PSN. Now my 360 is dropping its connection to Live. My NAT is still rated as "Open" for 360 and "2" for PS3, so I don't know what's wrong.

I can still connect, though, so send me invites anyway guys.

The Ps3 has the option, so I would imagine the 360 too. Just go to Player Match, and create the match. The set private slots to one, and you should be given the option to invite from your friend's list.
After weeks of playing MGO, this is such a relief.

I wasn't that into SCIII (only played it for a couple of months) and haven't really played one in-depth since SCII. But I thought I'd give it ye old college effort.

I just had a thought for someone that should be very easy to make in the character creator, yet incredibly awesome at that same time and will be one of the first things I do once the appropriate clothes are unlocked (if they aren't from the beginning). That man is...

    The Dread Pirate Roberts

If someone with the game now gets to it before I can, please post a shot. Hopefully the character creator gives enough space for the long name.

Edit: Also on the list if possible would be Inigo Montoya.

So from what I played last night Tira is looking like a character I would like to learn more of, since I'm sure if I get my skill up with my normal main (Maxi) I will get to be called a noob and a button masher on the regular since so many people assume he's SC's very own Eddie. The Gloom stance stuff is so great from my limited time with the game.

How well do the Hori sticks work with this game? And are the LB and RB buttons being at the top a problem?

If this game is like the other ones then the bumpers will probably be mapped to do the same thing as face buttons. I'd expect this is a pretty arcade-stick friendly game and as long as it has all the face buttons within easy reach you'll be fine.

Yeah, the bumpers/triggers are just mapped combos of the face buttons. Which are convenient, but with an arcade stick, totally unnecessary.

Yeah, even with a game pad, I find for G+H+V+K I tend to hit all the buttons instead of hitting LB. The game is really good at picking up all 4 being pressed at once.

I feel like the button response is really good. In the old games, I thought the combo'd shoulder buttons were damn near necessary, but I haven't used them much at all.

Wow this game is fantastic. I spent over an hour alone last night with the custom character creator making a really interesting warrior woman (she looks even better than some of the main characters). Now today I cant wait to spend even more hours making a really killer dude.

I was a little suprised that story mode doesn't take as long. Last night I was playing as Rafael for my first play-through. After around 5th stage a nifty cutscene took place and that was it...I was taken to the credits screen. It took about 20 minutes to play through that character.

Not that that's a bad thing...I can hopefully get to see more of the game and unlock these hidden characters rather than being "That guy".

A bit of a side note, I ordered Dead or Alive 4 several days ago (I missed out on it when it was released a couple of years ago). How does that game compare? Also is there any word on Tekken 6?

Kilik doesn't seem to have changed much since 3, and he didn't change much from 2-3 either... he's a pretty well rounded character. I like him, but I've never been good with him, sadly. Like you say... he doesn't fit my style, I guess.

Edit: I kind of wish there was a Heihachi-style unarmed fighter, so I could fully bring over my CoH character, The Tax Collector.

Thankfully, the suit and tie is intact.
Unblockable Attack and the beginning of the round speed boosts are must haves, of course. :)

So is there a real end boss discovered yet, like Night Terror from SC3?

Other'n that, I picked it up yesterday(preeemium) and I realize that I am sorely out of practice and need to learn how to play the fucking game. I used Apprentice's b-throw to whore myself up to the 20th level of the Tower, but I need to actually sit down and practice with either Taki or Amy's style... or maybe Maxi. You vets, which style is better for speed and flashiness?

    Okay, so a couple issues:

How do you do critical finishes? I know that you press the LB button when their soul gague is flashing red, but that only works about 1/10 of the time.

When I play as yoda online, people often spam maxi's vertical low nunchuck sweep, and I can't figure out how to beat it. Yoda's sidestep is too slow to walk around it, and I can't find an attack that can break the spam.

Did this the other day. The name was too long and only showed up as "Dread Pirate" so I went with "Wesley". Unfortunately, I don't have any way of taking a screenshot. He turned out okay as a clone of Rapheal with the exception of biting the opponent's neck for a critical finish but there aren't usually many chances of that happening.

Critical finishers can only occur after you break their guard while their bar is blinking red. Try it out in training mode, set their soul gauge to the lowest setting and their action to guard. Once they block enough attacks, their guard will be broken.

Then you press A+B+K+G and finish them off.

As for the lows, try a jumping attack. Jumping attacks avoid lows, so maybe a jumping B should suffice.

Also, the thread title should just consist of the throwaway dialogue that half the characters say with the same inflection

This is the end! Accept your fate. How was that? Forgive me.

actually, no, don't do that. that shit is terrible. The voice acting in this game is funny, but most fighting games are terrible in that regard anyway

The *first* thing I have done with the last few Soul Calibur games, including SCIV, is to go into options and change the spoken language from English to Japanese, and ensure that subtitles are enabled. Poof! Problem solved. The only caveat this time around is that Japanese Yoda sounds odd to my ears.

I don't think I'm doing critical finishes right... I just can't get them to work. I'm trying to go up the tower and I'm on this level (maybe 18? 19?) where these two people are pretty much always blocking, and they get life back whenever they block. So it seems like a good time to try a critical finish, right? I get them to that blinking red state, but then I can't pull it off. I need to do a guard break, then do the critical finish, right? I've looked up my character's guard break, I pull off the move, it looks like the other character is reeling, but when I do the critical finish I just get the head shaking animation I always get whenever I try a critical finish. It worked in training, why isn't it working now?

These tower floors where you have to get off a critical finish to get the treasure can go fuck themselves with a baseball bat covered in hot tar and broken glass. Fuck I have "soul gauge vamp" and "soul gauge damage A" and I can't seem to pull it off. I've gotten their gauge to blinking within 3 hits and then they always ALWAYS start GI'ing EVERYTHING.

Edit: God DAMNIT! I tried again and the opponent's soul gauge was flashing almost the entire time. Even using guard breaks the opportunity to critical finish NEVER ONCE came up. And before anyone tries to be a smartass I already know how to recognize when it's available.

All their armor has to be broken we you deplete their soul gauge. You shouldn't have to "look up" anything, you just keeping hitting them with normal attacks until you break their Soul Gauge.

    *edit*
The way the Soul Gauge works is that when you attack, it moves toward blue, and when you block an attack, it moves toward red. If your oppenent is being a block-whore, the gauge will drop down until it's flashing. At this point, if they block again, and you hit them, you'll automatically break the block, and they'll be stunned and vulnerable to attack for about 1s. This is when you hit the four face buttons (or RB) and can execute the critical.

The Critical really is a humiliating punishment for being a block-whore.

Okay, so you get thier gauge to flash, then do a gaurd break. This breaks a peice of their armor. Now thier gauge isn't flashing anymore. the next time you get thier gague to flash, then you can critical finish them? Do you have to destroy all of thier armor?

Against human players, I had a lot of success using moves like 3+triangle over and over whenever the opponent wasn't in close. When the opponent tried to stumble through a gauntlet of jiggling hoops, I'd move in with faster attacks / go for a grab / retreat and throw up another hula-hoop wall / let them fall into my attacks if it looks like they're expecting me to drop my first hula-hoop wall. Of course, depending who you're playing with, there's a good chance people will think you're just spamming attacks and being cheap.
