Three days ago I damaged something in my wrist and now my thenar (the fat/muscle that connects the underside of your thumby wumby to your palm) goes a little numb when I have my thumb in certain positions. It has been getting better and is almost gone now, but I'd like to figure out what I wrecked.
The situation went down like so:
I had purchased about two months worth of non perishable groceries and loaded them into my trunk. In total it was about 20 full plastic bags. When I got home I decided that all of a sudden I was this manly bloke (aka lazy idiot) and told my wife to load them all onto my arms so we could do it in one trip. I think I managed about 3/4 of them before I headed up the two stories to my apartment. The total weight was probably about 50-60 pounds per arm. Of course on the way up they all bunched up at my wrists but I kept going. When I put them down in the kitchen, my wrists were all red and my right thenar started to feel numb after about 5 minutes.
I am guessing that I damaged some veins that feed to the numb area. They are healing but maybe this can lead to permanent damage? I certainly ain't goin to see no docturr fo this here problem.
Nahhh, I've done similar idiocies in fencing class and the very same "I can too lift 90 pounds of groceries on my weak hand!" dance. If it's getting better and fully functional, don't worry at all.
I'm not sure if a doctor could do anything even if you went to see one... on hand-related stuff don't they usually just say to ice it frequently and take it easy?
I guess that's pretty much what I'd suggest.
