When I'm using the scrollwheel on my USB mouse with my laptop, sometimes it acts as if i'd hit the back button on my browser, much to my dismay. I dont have another mouse to try, and that same mouse works fine on my roomate's laptop. What can possibly be causing this?

I'd love to be the one disappoint you when I don't fall down

you hit the shift button or it is stuck.

edit: when you scroll down on the wheel with the shift key down it does the page back button.

That sounds about right, surprised it never happened on the other laptop. I'll see if this holds true. Any other theories are still welcome.

Could be that different browsers on different platforms do it differently. Firefox on OSX uses the Alt key. I used to something similar - I'd hold down the Ctrl key in Windows and forget to release it when scrolling, resulting in the text size constantly changing.

It just happened again, and nothing was near either the built in or the usb keyboard, a setup I was using on the other laptop too. A menu pops up as it happens as if I'd right clicked, which is also weird... so I still need help =/

Is there anything funky going on in your mouse settings (as in in Control Panel, assuming you're in Windows)?

Not as far as I can tell, what would I be looking for?

Did your mouse come with a disc of its own drivers? I was thinking that there may be a tab in your mouse settings which has special settings (I know some mice and many trackpads have this sort of thing). Somebody else could probably explain this far better than I can.

Sorry, but I'm afraid I've run out of ideas. Hopefully, someone else here knows.
