Craphounding downtown

Question for the local Seattlites: What's the thrift/consignment store scene like downtownne? When I visit a big city, one of my favorite things is to see what the thrift stores have. I'm always surprised with what I find, whether it be a random t-shirt or priceless cart just waiting to be plucked from the hands of a 9 year old (no, I have no shame). Although craphounding is better done solo, I'd be willing to tolerate the presence of others, as long as proper etiquette is practiced.

Pike Place Market has a lot of crap shops. Like trinkets and random old things. Right outside of the market is a t-shirt shop with 2 for $10 shirts. They're pretty crappy with a nice "funny" aspect to them. Other then that it's more "high quality" things in Downtown. For example there is a pimp clothing shop on Pike st. It's definitely a good diversion, but I would highly recommend being with a group of friends while in it. I can't think of any others, I only wander in Downtown occasionally. I do know that not too far away is a Pier that has a Pirate shop...

They're a good place to craphound.

There is a HUGE Goodwill downtown. Also, check out RE-PC. They have the greatest selection of old computer crap I have ever seen. If you need 14.4k PCMCIA modems, that is the place to go. They also have an old computer museum of sorts.

Northwest AIDS Alliance has an awesome thrift store in Capitol Hill. My wife and I go there all the time.

Cool shops in Pike are generally pretty expensive though.

There is also a Good Will on 15th. If you're going South on the freeway, pull out at 220th Mountlake Terrace exit. Then drive up the main street in town and eventually you'll hit 15th which is basically a back way to get to the U-dist. The big Good Will is on 15th just passed North City.

Are you talking about the Good Will on 15th NE and 145th? Just take the 145th exit if you want to go to that one.

Haha, probably. I know one way to get places. It's easier for my horrible driving skills.

Goodwill and Value Village are right up my alley :) I mostly look for clothes, but that RE-PC place looks like a gold mine of finds. Thanks!

Did anyone say Archie McPhee's yet? Not so much a thrift store, but it has some pretty hilarious crap. You can take the bus from the convention center (route 17 I think), get off on Market Street & Ballard Ave. I love shopping in Ballard... Such cool old hokey stuff. :)

Bacon floss pickle pullers??? Cool merch, indeed, but craphounding is all about used or discarded stuff. The craphounds' motto is "One man's trash is MY treasure".

That's not trash, that's the bag of shit one of the employees took out with the trash. It's actually stolen goods.

Right on the main drag of Capital Hill are several clothing consignment shops. Haven't seen a lot downtown in that vein honestly unless you count the overpriced antique stores though there is one on 1st street right as you hit pioneer square that always looks great. The large goodwill isn't too bad and the local liquor distribution warehouse is not far from there and that's the best selection you'll find. So you can get a two-fer in. But really, Capital Hill is where it's at.

Are you driving or walking? If you're driving, there's a nice big circuit GSpeezy and I do to hit up all the Value Villages, GoodWills and St. Vincent de Pauls in the greater area. Usually we head up I-5, detour to Aurora (hwy 99), back to 522 and down 405. Just this weekend we found some classic games for $2 each: Battletoads, Ninja Gaiden, Mike Tyson's Punch Out, Super Mario Kart, MK64... We usually find something kickass each weekend.

If you're on Google Maps, type in the store name and city (i.e. "GoodWill, Seattle, WA") and it'll pinpoint all the nearest locations for you. The one in Bellevue is full of great clothing and the occasional game ensemble.

    ZOMG!!

I've only been to Ballard once and that was one of the places we went. Evil Duck FTW! They have so much sweet cubicle swag. It's a great place to go with 20 bucks and walk out with a fortune of things.
