Ironically enough, I just started reading Angels and Demons by Dan Brown like a week ago. Yesterday I pull up MSNBC.com. "CERN... LHC... WHAT!?" I was a little freaked out. (Not because I think anything chaotic will happen. (it won't) But because I just started reading all about CERN and the LHC literally less than a week before this huge announcement.)

On topic: How 'bout them trolls.
I read that book a few years ago during my physics III lectures. A fairly good book that was far more interesting than physics. Definitively not a smart thing to have done, but I passed the class all the same.
RE: WotLK Release Date. I think my original prediction was late December, early January. I'm sticking with that.
Having said this, I'll believe it's coming out when it's installed and running on my machine
Given how much stuff is in a self-described "rough state" I can't imagine it coming out before January. With the holidays in shit, too much can go wrong for them to do a major release until after New Years.
Then again they could have a hundred people working on this thing and it could be ready in a month to go gold in a month, who knows.
My lowest channel number is 2., and it's for my guild's class leader channel. :P
My chat channels are almost full. But I'm in more than I need to be... tank chat, healer chat, womenz chat, etc.

women chat?
obligatory :winky:
i stalk healer chat, i'd bet they don't even know i'm there, unless they check the list. its nice to know when the healers are being told by their leader "dw that was the tanks fault" when it clearly wasnt
I have 7 channels, or so.
1.General
2.Trade (I've learned to tune out anything that isn't green, blue, purple, or money in both of these)
3.Local Defense (Usually goes off when it's more than "3 70 Allies, Dwarf Warrior, Hunter, and NElf Priest on the way to XR")
4.World Defense (Same)
5. This one I dunno, I think they're just random bullshit addon channels.
6.Ihateraids (Friends channel from another server, our IRL friend "bullshit" channel)
7.Shortbusrollson (For people to keep in touch after our guild leader robbed the guild bank, disbanded the guild, and then left servers because everyone but his guild hated him.)
I haven't had general turned on since after the first year, when my server was small enough it wasn't 100% bullshit. Why people still have it on is beyond me.

I have a channel that's named after my old guild. I'm the only person ever in it and can't get rid of it. Someone told me to reinstall Guild Calendar, but that did nothing:(
I'm on Runetotem, I play there because my brothers on it. I used to play on archimonde with a few american friends from swg but couldnt do the raids really as it was 2am when they started.

[5 - HealersHideHere]: Dhalphir has joined the channel.
Unless you log on before all of them, they should know.
Personally, the first thing I did on all my alts was to leave general and trade. I only join them if I actually need assistance in a zone or wish to sell something away from the AH. Aside from that, I've got them all in a rogue channel that does not exist (and if it did, it'd only be used by 3 people anyway), the waiting channel (for finding people for raid spots as needed without having to consult the book of armaments), and some are still in a cross guild friends channel I used to be in ocassionally.

First they came for the Muslims, and we said NOT TODAY, MOTHERFUCKER!
I stay in all the channels on the off chance that someone needs help with something I can assist with (I'm talking stuff like "Where is X" or "Does Y make me look fat?" not "Come halfway across the zone and kill 300 z for me please"). Also it sometimes breaks the bordem in the middle of the night.
I stay in channels so I can refute blatant retardation.
dude1 - "Why is Bhag'thera not here"
dude2 - "What lvl are you, is the quest orange to you?"
dude1 - "Yeah it's orange"
dude2 - "That's why. He doesn't spawn if the quest is orange to you."
me - "What the fuck stop making shit up that's not even true. He'll spawn just wait, he has a few spawn points in that area"

I would've said "So as long as his quest is orange, no one can ever kill Bhag'thera then? He will never spawn?" And watch how his tiny mind tries to comprehend it.
Did Kazrogal for the first time last night, I was the only one to die (hunter). I had this hunter who just joined our guild talking to me like I'm 5 years old.
"You have to keep Viper on the whole fight"
-Yeah, I switched to Viper once I hit about 90%
"You really should be doing everything you can not to go below 3k mana"
-Thanks, I read up on the fight too, and was chugging fel manas every cooldown
"See what I do is I use my Illidan bow and use mana oil. You have to do everything you can"
-I have mana oil on both my weapons and have never even seen Illidan.
Just because you're better geared than me doesn't mean I'm retarded. It's not my fault that Kazrogal was an a$$hole and hit me with Mark 3 times in one potion cooldown.

Quite the contrary. Looks like dude2 was in the rudimentary stages of conceptualizing the phasing device. If anything, he was ahead of his time.

I don't really like the idea of phasing, but I hear that all the starting zone DK quests are awesome and they use phasing so who knows.

It's something I've always thought MMOs should have ever since I started playing them. Sort of like 'hey, didn't I just save this person from that cage? what's she doing back in there?' I don't know if that will be addressed, but there have been other games that do something similar, I just can't remember them off the top of my head.

I think continuity is a difficult concept to really implement in an MMO. For one, continuity would pretty much kill instance grinding. Have fun only running the dungeon once, there is no respawn.
Even if you only extended it to quest mobs it's an issue. If you've done a (kill, rescue, escort) quest already, does that automatically preclude you from helpiing somebody else do the quest? If grouping with someone to help them makes it so you can see everything again, doesn't that ruin the continuity anyway? What's the point?
I don't think that's going to be an issue. Beyond ebon hold, which is an extreme version of phasing, I can't imagine them using it for much more than cosmetic stuff back in quest hubs to give you a sense of accomplishment from quests and some cool world events.
To put it in current game terms imagine you turn in onyxia's head. You would see that head on a spike there forever as a constant reminder of your achievement. Or you rescue those kids from the arrakoa in terrokar, you'd see them running around the refugee caravan whenever you stop by. Just cool little things that make the world seem a bit more alive.
I really don't see what's so complicated about escort quests and phasing.
Does anyone actually worry about the escorted npc? No, you just want the shit in the way dead.
If they really wanted to, they could replace the usual escort npc with some other random model for your client, but even if they removed them entirely, you'd just have to follow your friend and kill shit along their path.
I mean, who wouldn't have loved to finally see those cages where Corgi (or whatever the fuck his name was) is kept in Nagrand empty? To not have him whining every time you walked by?
"Dude, I just fucking saved you 3 times! You're caught again? Y'know what, fuck you. You can rot in there for all I care."
Sure there are some cases where being able to buff, heal or even just target the friendly mobs is useful, but there are also tons of quests where they could implement an individual reality for each player to build immersion without breaking game mechanics easily.

I didn't mean to be rude or anything. Many apologies good sir. I just think a lot of people are blowing this Hadron Collider way out of proportion.
