I cannot emphasize these two enough. Well...mostly the first one.

Crusader: No Remorse, Mechwarrior 2 + Expansions, and C&C: Red Alert are definitely the most played pc games from my younger years. (Not to mention Tyrain, some free shmup we got with our computer which I sadly cannot find again.)
Tyrian 2000 is freeware, and very easy to find. Tyrian 2.0 has been ported to SDL and is available for mostly every platform you want it on. It's feature complete by now I think, and almost bug free.

Yeah same here. Morrowind is a much better game, with a more in-depth player experiences

The first Serious Sam game was and still is the definition of manly 1st person shootin.

The game does not fuck around. You start the game with a knife that damn near insta-gibs what ever it hits, a gun with infinite ammo, and then progress your way to a gun that shoots atomic cannonballs and another gun that's basically one of the turrets from the death star condensed into a hand-held form. And the enemies always outnumber you at least 100 to one, either in numbers or actual size. It's a fucking insane rush to see a giant mob of enemies rushing at you and to open up into their lines with the chaingun, and just see this huge cloud of blood suddenly rise out of their ranks.

    Seriously, an awesome game.

I think you've just summed up everything i love about that game.

Red Alet 2 looked too damn pixelated last time I tried to play. Plus their different controls for the RTS genre was a little too annoying for me.

Man, playing C&C:RA makes me feel old and angry.

I mean, this is the perfect formula, why couldn't they simply update it and then ensure that the voice acting retains the same quality, make the controls better, expand upon their pathfinding and line of sight shit, and then give units much more autonomy?

But, I can see that the voice acting is in between "VOICE ACTING IS SRSBZNS" and third grade reading monotone, that they are firing through buildings at tanks, and that lesbian schoolgirls are in command of the jap faction.

Don't get me wrong, I like lesbian schoolgirls, but I would rather play a jap faction that uses insane methed-up pilots crashing their 100 resource planes into 10000 resource supercarriers.

Also, in the first game, Hitler died to what was essentially an atomic joybuzzer of dooooom!

I like that fact, it amuses me to no end.

Man what? First of all have you even played the beta? There's one schoolgirl unit. One. Singular. At any given time. The voice acting is fine. There are in fact kamikaze planes for the Japanese faction, as a support power. Also kamikaze submarines. And it's not lesbian schoolgirls in command of the army, it's George Takei. Freaking George Takei.

Secondly, much as I adore the original Red Alert, some of the voice acting for the units is piss poor. One of the Soviet infantry voices sounds almost exactly like my cousin doing a bad Russian accent. And I don't know what the hell the Engineer's voice is supposed to be.

Finally, in RA3 Einstein gets the electric hand buzzer of dooooom from Tim Curry.

I always preferred the first SOul Reaver but any of the two would do well in a collection. And I'm actually looking at the Max Payne 2 case on the shelf to the right of me, it speaks to me. I guess its back in the disc tray for old Max.

I have no idea what this game was called, but there was a fairly seriously mediocre fantasy MMORPG a while ago that, while the rest of the gameplay was meh, had a farming craft that was insanely addictive. There were furrows south of the town and you could find seeds by foraging, and plant them and they'd grow into trees and bushes and stuff and you harvested it... I have no idea why, but it was retardedly addictive. Similar to the current MMO Voyage Online, but it was a 2D game and not as advanced, and the simplicity was part of the fun.

It was, I believe, a single-word name, very fantasy-sounding... like Acadia or Evelisa or something like that. Ring any bells? It may not still be around, as this was maybe 4 years ago.

Horizons? That is widely considered to have the best crafting of any MMO, ever, but the rest of the gameplay was terrible.

Also, I finally got Baldur's Gate 2 to work on Vista 64 last night. That was an adventure and a half. If anyone cares, it will run naively, but you need to do a couple of things:

    Get the latest patch.
Run only in a supported resolution (yes, even with the wide screen patch, it doesn't work right on Vista 64)
Make sure to turn on Windows XP SP2 Compatibility

Now that I've gotten BG2 to work, I am tempted to try PS:T and Icewind Dale.

Did anybody ever play Battlezone? Not the old vector graphics one, the Activision remake from 98 or so.

It's like an RTS, except you're one of the units down on the ground, while still in command.

I found my old disk and am playing it again. The graphics are dated, but it still seems fun.

This game DRASTICALLY needs an update. I'd be interested in seeing how the multiplayer would play out today, probably quite similar to Renegade.

Heavy Duty, if they can pull it off, looks to scratch a lot of this old Battlezone itch. Watch the video to see an example of jumping into a unit to control it directly.

Battlezone doesn't even really need an update. It's still playable. Maybe some better AI: when I played it recently I got bored after finishing the American campaign.

There are tweaks to bump up the resolution and greatly increase the draw distance (the latter crashes on some levels, but on most it's really nice). AA through ATI Tray Tools worked fine for me too.

I've heard of it yeah. Was most impressed with the video of the spider-tank climbing a hill. That just looked awesome cool, why don't more games have spider-tanks like that? All you need to do is give it a jump command and possibly some wheels I've got my Tachikoma.

I would then use such a contraption to load up Day of the Tentacle, and through that walk to the in-game computer to load up and play Maniac Mansion 1.

Hopefully the construction of a fourth order emulation system of that nature won't cause the universe to collapse into a giant black hole.

RE4 isn't really scary, they went in a more action shooter path with it.(I only jumped once in the whole game) If possible I would say to play it on the Gamecube or Wii as the PC version is a port of the PS2 version with shitty lighting. (Having played all 4 versions I would say Wii is best.) If you only have PC as an option though then Yes, you should play it.
