Unbeknownst to me, Tomb Raider: Anniversary's achievements were tacked onto Tomb Raider: Legend's. This irks as I do not have the full 1250 points but, unfortunately for me, I have already traded my copy of Legend in. Do I need to have the Legend disc in the tray to play Anniversary every time or just to download it once and then play?

Why would you need the disc for Legend to play Anniversary?
Why would you need the disc for Legend to play Anniversary?
Because you can download it as a full game as an addition to Legend, or buy the disc version.
If you're that worried about Achievement points, why not get the disc version? Roughly the same price (if not cheaper) and you get a full 1000 Achievement Points.
I think nobody should worry about getting achievement points.
It's a very addicting habit. I'm glad I kicked it, it's great to have that monkey off my back!
The Trophy monkey will come soon.

Outside of achievements, I hear the 360 port is pretty shit-tacular in the first place. Pick it up for the PC or PS2 if you're interested in it. Hell, it's on steam. You could be playing it in like a minute.

There's nothing wrong with the 360 port at all. I owned both the PS2 and 360 versions.
The problem itself is with the game. The camera feels really disjointed compared to Legend. Still, a step up from old TR games.

Jesus, I cannot wait for Underworld.
Weird. Pretty much every review of the 360 version I saw mentioned framerate issues and such. Exaggerated and/or fixed, I guess. And I forgot about the Wii version. Nevermind me, then. Four viable platforms.
I played it on the PC and the camera felt mostly identical to Legend from what I remember. It was a slower game, so I wasn't paying as much attention to it, though. I do remember the default combat targeting being useless.
Legend is pretty awesome. I've only dicked around a bit with Anniversary... I wonder how it is on Wii..
I've played both the 360 and Wii versions of Anniversary, and I ended up keeping the 360 version. I actually liked the pointer controls when it came to gunfights and being able to point Lara's flashlight around, but the overall jumping/exploring controls just weren't as tight as with the 360's traditional dual-stick control pad setup. It mapped the camera to holding C and moving the pointer around, which became a little tiring after a while since this is the type of game where you're always fiddling with the camera to set up a jump. And the 360 version definitely feels like a port-up in terms of graphics, but it's still much sharper and better looking than the Wii version—in really rocky areas, like St. Francis' Folly, I had a hard time discerning grippable ledges in the Wii version.
The Wii version was fine by itself, really, but if given the choice between Wii or 360/PS2, I'd recommend the dual-analog setup.
Also, Legend is the first TR I've ever actually finished, and I love the game. It's a lot more linear than the other games but I think that's why I liked it. Anniversary's definitely more challenging in terms of jumping puzzles and figuring out where to go, though, so I think that's why series vets enjoy it more overall.
Why would you need the disc for Legend to play Anniversary?
From what I hear, if you download the game off of Xbox Live, Anniversary uses some of Legend's assets.
I've been wanting to get Anniversary for the 360 but I can't find a disc version in any of my local shops. I know I can download it but I don't have enough free space on my HDD for it. I guess I'll end up buying it online (goes against my desire for instant gratification).

The disc version had an amazingly short retail run; I looked for it for a long time to no avail, and it almost disappeared two weeks after it came out. I only got it off of Goozex after months of waiting.

Really? I got it a long while after release; guess it depends on where you are.
Anniversary is actually the only 360 game I have left. I haven't gotten around to selling it yet.

Look again, man. I've seen it in the bargain game aisle twice in the past week at two separate Targets.
Edit: You already got it :P That'll teach me to respond without reading the full post.

And sure enough, I find Anniversary hidden in the back of my local EBgames, in a place I just looked at recently. Apparently, someone sold off their used copy (and by used I mean the game case is broke to fuck). The game plays fine, so I know what I'll be playing all weekend.

No.
But I assume if you were really that bothered by the lack of Achievement Points, you could get both versions and 1000 and 250.

All right, people. It is not a gerbil. It is not a hamster. It is not a guinea pig. It is a death rabbit. Death. Rabbit. Say it with me, now.

Surprised because I downloaded it and it's really fun.
EDIT: Also,
How did you ever go without playing the first couple Tomb Raiders? How does that happen?

I, I had an N64. I don't think it was on N64? Also, super shitty computer.

UKResistance have some interesting pictures from her photoshoot. http://www.ukresistance.co.uk/2008/08/tomb-raider-models-crotch-shot-shame.html (sorta NSFW).
She doesn't look the part like Karima Adebibe did, but she's probably the only model that could actually do all the shit that Lara does.
