We're going to move up the Tetris contest to 6:00pm on Friday to make room for a Dawn of War session where you can get right close and personal with THQ people for a little chat and a chance to win some prizes with a test of your knowledge when it comes to Dawn of War, which will happen at 7:00pm.
There will be swag...oh yes, there will be swag, and the questions should be pretty easy...really this is just an excuse to connect fans with developers. And, you know, give out prizes. =D
Also note that THQ is presenting Dawn of War 2 immediately after this, at 8:00pm in the Walrus Theater. Considering their last two RTS efforts (Dawn of War and Company of Heroes), I'm really excited to see what they've got cooking.
Anyway, just a heads up. Tetris at 6:00pm on Friday, Informal Dawn of War session at 7:00pm, Dawn of War 2 presentation at 8:00pm. We also moved up Peggle from 5:00pm to 4:30pm just to space things out a bit. Basically we'll do Peggle right after the Omegathon round.
whats the word on bringing chairs to BYOC? haven't seen much talk about that here. It'd be really nice to have a decent chair. =D
Shouldn't you have asked that a long time ago? I'd be shocked if you get an OFFICIAL answer, as most all the PAX people are asleep or occupied.
In every other lan party case I presume its just fine. However, since its at the convention center and I noticed the thing about outside food/drink last night, I figured it'd be good to know if they care about large objects such as chairs being pushed through the lobby.
I'm sorta surprised no one else has brought it up. My guess is that its just fine in that case.

So you were bringing that chair for BYOC! I saw you pulling an office chair out of your car on the loading dock yesterday, and I was quite confused. (At least, I assume it was you... how many people bring chairs to a LAN??)
Really loved BYOC this year. I wish I'd spent more time there because the events were really great. Definitely should do again for next year. Thanks!

We are sorry about the crowds that had to pour through the room...it was certainly unfortunate, but obviously when safety is a concern, everything else has to take a back seat. That's also why we left the lights on much of the time, as we had very little notice when our room was going to be needed as a hallway, and when we have that number of people pouring through, lights need to be left on.
Also, our byoc contests are meant to be a pretty casual and easy going, but there was a bit too much last minute shifting that happened. That was a combination of too little prep work and our staff getting stretched way too thin. (One of the guys that should be dedicated to byoc contests ended up working pc freeplay because there just wasn't anyone else and they were getting bent over a barrel).
Our Internet connection was pretty poor on Friday, but we think we got that pretty well resolved by Saturday for the most part, and it appeared to continued to improve. There were a lot of unfortunate things that happened there.
Oh, and obviously we'll be looking to find a bigger room for next year. BYOC sold out in two weeks, the room was packed to the gills (with a scramble to find extra tables), and...well...moar is better!
All in all, we're pretty proud of how things turned out, but there are always lessons to be learned.
One comment about the BYOC tournaments: While it was kind of cool having the team competition thing with big prize drawings at the end, I think there should have been individual, smaller prizes for each individual competition.
Each person who won each of the contests won a randomly selected prize, and then everything that was left over after that was given away via the raffle.

You actually brought your own CHAIR? For reals?
Huh.

oh definitely. 3 days of gaming i need something with good support. It sucks having to use standard chairs, or worse, metal fold up chairs. eeek!
Not exactly nice, but not metal-foldup either.
Goo gone works wonders (and wont screw up paint or anything). I always have a bottle laying around for various things.

"Oh what a day, what a LOVELY DAY!"
By the way if you hold the contest next year red, can I be like one of the main judges? Since I know you would defiantly not let me compete again.
